Na just grab some scout and climb the hunting tree. Thats what I did. It's needed for BE anyway so if they ever get that stuff working then you'll be that much ahead of the game. Besides, you can get some weapon exp along the way too and stop feeling so left out of the fighting aspect of the game.

I played on a live server this weekend and was able to procure hides off the bazaar for 2c/per -not too shabby. Seems you can find what you need for the right price if you hunt long enough. (yay time sinks )

That's what I have been doing .... camping the bazaar for hides ... ugh.

Problem is I can burn through alot of hides ... easily 1000 in a 2 - 3 hour play session in the evening and more on weekends. I had to stop in the middle of sessions with customers twice this weekend to go chase down hides when I ran out.

And I have not been seeing 2c per ... right now I count myself lucky to find it at 5 credits per and snap it up if in quantity and similar to what I have (so it is stackable ... I hate lots of 200ish item stacks). As someone had posted earlier ... bids of 10-20 credits per are getting common ... and silly in my opinion. I have travelled to other planets to pick up reasonable hides rather than pay the prices folks are asking now as a matter of principle ... even though I am probably spending as much when the cost of the ticket is factored.

These days ... seems like my typical 2-3 hour play session is now having me devote the first hour to checking harvestors (due to resource shifts) and chasing down enough hides to restock my vendors for the night.

Yes...this is quite an annoying trend. I went to Bazaar yesterday and the most I could find was 400 leathery hide for 3000 credits. That is obscene! I would rather spend weeks killing the stuff myslef than pay 3K for hide that I will use up after making 8 cloaks.

You're not alone. This is the plague that hit Bloodfin as well.

Unless I'm misunderstanding people, doesn't the change in harvesting actually end up producing *more* hides in aggregate?

"Each scout in a group with loot permissions for a corpse may harvest from the corpse. Harvested group kills yield 60% their normal resources and xp, but may be harvested by each scout in the group."

So if I'm understanding this right, a single critter that would ordinarily give 100 hides to a single scout now instead would give (for a hypothetical 5-person hunting group) 5*60 or 300 hides? (If you're a solo hunter, would you get 100 hides?)

Individual hunters who make a living of selling hides might have fewer than they used to, but there should probably be a lot more floating around. And in my experience, there seem to be a fair number of hunters who just keep collecting hides with no real clue what to do with them, and have enormous stacks available when I casually mention that I could use hides or whatever.

Greetings from a visiting CH/Pistoleer...

I think you've pretty much got all the reasons covered above. I used to hunt critters all the time and put the hides up on the bazaar after my friends bought/traded me for what they wanted. Reasons I've pretty much stopped:

1. Harvesting changes. I just don't get much hides soloing creatures anymore.
2. Shifting to faction missions. I find the money to be made on faction missions (plus the faction points) much better than what I get for creature lairs.
3. Mastering CH. I used to bring in tons of hides just from killing weak spawns with low Clvl pets. Now that I don't do that anymore, I get a lot fewer hides.

I need wooly hides, and the thing is, on the bazaar galaxy-wide I counted maybe a total of 600 hides being sold. :/

Actually, in my neck of the woods on Gorath, it seems that our hide-harvesting community has realized there's a shortage, and I've been seeing people specifically go out to get hides to sell on the market. So things might be loosening up a little. YAY!!!

It's about communication and networking. All I did was mention to a hunting party from my guild going out for the night that I needed some hides, and they returned and gave me about 2.5k wooly in several stacks under 1k quantity. The best part, they were free.

I agree you do not see the large bricks like you used to, but you can commission someone to go get that large brick for you. Hey Mr Scout / Ranger, I will pay you 3 credits per for this specific hide. If you return to me a brick of 10,000 or more, there is a 10% bonus in it for you, based on the total amount of the sale.

Boom, off they go.

If you are expecting the game or dynamics to not change you are setting yourself up for failure. Yes, I used to by 1000 blocks on the bazaar, now I buy them from players. In a few weeks, I might have to go hunt them myself, and a few weeks more, I might meet a great supplier.

Just because you stagnate, does not mean the rest of your galaxy does.

Yes, the supply is drying up. As a tailor who gets their own hides, I can tell you that there has been a huge reduction in the number of hides. During the last big patch, they made it so that everyone in the party can harvest from the same animal, but reduced the amount of hide/bone/meat by 60%. Unfortunately, they also put this into effect for people soloing, so they only get 60% (and group individuals get 60% of that 60%) since now there is potentially more of the resources in the world. Unfortunately, this is only true of groups over 4 scouts, and very few groups are organized enough to hand over all of their hide to one person at the end. Scouts are also keeping their hides and bones because it takes a lot of them to make a nice campsite. Anyway, it has gotten to the point where I rarely make anything that uses hides anymore. I think when I do, the price is going to have to go way up. So far I have not seen any indication that this is going to chane.

P.S. I was playing my pistoleer character yesterday at the veermock cave, and I was getting *1* hide per animal. Veermocks are pretty big and moderately nasty. Furthermore, the character is only lacking 2 trapping boxes to make master scout.

The problem is that you need scouting skills to get those hides, so you need a group of scouts. Also, I have a ranger friend who does not give up his hides, because now with the hide reduction he can barely keep enough to make his camps. The camp problem is also the same with my creature handler friend. You can't call a pet in the field unless you are in a camp, so he has to be able to make them fairly often.

That is the way itshouldwork, butwhen they implemented thischange they alsodecreased(I thinkit was supposed to be 10% less)to solo harvested hides and increased the cost ofexisting scout and ranger items and added the new ranger camo kits. However, the decrease in solo scoutharvestingis far more than theyintended.Had this not happened the changes to scout/ranger crafted items wouldn't be a problem. As it is now,it only exaserbates the the problem. Now take into consideration that many of the "hunter scouts" did much of their harvesting solo, you have a drastic reduction in supply.

The good news is they realize there was a problem and are trying to fix the bug for solo harvesters. However, they haven't given us an ETA on the fix.

I've seen no significant reduction in solo yields at Hunting IV.The bugmay only be affecting characters who group with pets.
