Thread: Why aren't Tailors selling Trim?
Just to give you an idea of what goes into a factory run of trim, it takes almost an entire day (~24 hours) to produce a full 1000 unit run of trim. That's 40 crates of 25 units each. It takes 20k of fiberplast and 5k of inert petro for each production run. The schematic for trim comes at the Formalwear 1 box, so it's not something you can create at your base novice level, and most grinding tailors don't take Formalwear first.
There's quite a demand for trim at the moment, and while I can't speak for everyone, I know that I personally was able to find a chef (yes, 1 chef) who would take (and in fact, wants to take) every crate that I can produce. I had intended to try to stock trim on my vendor, but there's really no need to sell one or two crates at a time when I have a standing bulk order for it.
So the key is to find a tailor who has access to a factory (or multiple factories) that can be devoted to running trim for an extended period of time. Honestly, the rate at which chefs are going through casks is phenomenal.

I'm a Chef on Flurry and I can't find ANYONE selling crated Trim. With barrel broken, Crated Trim is in high demand to make casks for brandy and other drinks, yet none of the tailors I ask, sell the stuff.
It's only a Formal 1 skill, so a newbie tailor grinding the prof could make some side money I'd think. If anyone knows a Trim vendor/seller of Flurry.... email Taker in-game. And if you are not on Flurry, consider selling crated trim as a side business.... people can only wear so many clothes.... this would be a disposable item requiring repeated purchases..... at least until barrels are fixed.
I don't know about other tailors, I can only speak for myself as to the reasons I don't sell components... I'm a tailor, I sell clothes... I play this game to have fun.. if something isn't fun, I don't do it, even if somebody else thinks I "should"... (geez, I hate that word "should", hehe)
There is nothing fun about selling components for me... I do have several little side businesses, but they are side businesses that are fun to me... Being a millionaire I don't need to have a side business of someone else's choosing... I could stop selling clothes today and have enough money to last me for a full year probably... I currently have everything in this game I want... well, except for a few of the newer paintings for my home and I'm planning some fun to try and get some soon... ![]()
Knowing that the Chef profession depends on Tailors and since I find selling components to bedrudgery I usually just give the person asking to buy components a free schematic instead... this though, depends on how they approach me... I've only failed to offer a free schematic to one person, and coincidentally it was recently, and to a person demanding I make him a trim schematic, go figure... poor guy just didn't get it... ![]()
That being said *grins* I'm thinking of taking up the Chef profession on the side... I would consider trading some crates of trim for some crates of casks, or even trading a trim schematic for a cask schematic... since I'm on Chilastra this won't be helpful to you but maybe you can find someone on your server willing to make the same kind of trade... and if you still can't find someone selling components maybe you can offer to purchase a schematic and run some off yourself, personally that would be the route I'd choose...
If you were on Chilastra I would certainly help you out but I'm betting you'll find help soon... good luck to you... ![]()
....uh? Chefs use Trim? What for?
I never knew this before. I actually do sell crates of all Tailor components on my vendor, in a quasi-storage, quasi-sale way. Synth Cloth and RFP for Armorsmiths, of course, but the other stuff's up there (at highish but not ridiculous) prices just in case another tailor's wandering by and needs supplies or something.
In any case, if you're on Lowca, I do have some Trim for sale....

Just ask some tailors on your server and they may make it for you. I personally know one chef who I like a lot and every week I make her about 21 crates of trim. I don't make a huge amount on it since I am basically doing it as a favor, but as long as it doesn't get out of hand I don't mind.

Hi Tusk,
And lastly, for me personally, chefs have kind of touched a nerve in terms of price gouging madness on my server. Lots of chefs advertising on the Bria boards selling (or even auctioning) their brandy at prices of 500k, 600k, up to 650k/crate. Not saying you do that, I'm sure you don't, but it has just left kind of a bad taste in my mouth personally.
Good luck, I hope you find someone who will help you out.
That's interesting... I haven't checked brandy prices on Chilastra because I don't need mind buffs to make clothes... tell you what I'd do though if I were you... sell those Chefs some crates of trim at their own prices... according to my calculations there are 6500 resources in a crate of 25 Vasarian Brandy utilizing casks as the container... at the price of 650,000 they are charging 100cpu... by the same token, a crate of 25 Trim totals 625 resources... using the chef pricing scheme you should be able to get 62500 for a case of trim...! hehe... maybe there is good money in selling components after all, eh...? ![]()
This where I got my chef info so if anyone needs to correct my math, please do...

But my main thing, is I make enough trim for my needs, and up to now, there's been no reason for me to make more. It takes alot of space to store (which I don't have) so odds are, if you approach me politely, and with a little paitence I'll make a schematic for you.
(What the heck is the logical relationship between trim and barrels, anyhow?)
I've got three chefs come to me so far, I have never refused yet but to be honest for me it's more a pain than anything... I don't need the money, it means I have to put more harvestersto get resources and I can't always afford to spare the lots, it keeps my factory busy for a day... Same reasons I don't like selling any kind of components really.
I still think that people who need components should not contact master tailors, but novices, who can prolly use the business more.
I was oblivious Chefs used trim in making casks until I was contacted by 3 Chefs to please sell them some crates of trim. One could afford only 10 but the other twowanted 200 crates! Seems the Mayor of my city referred me. (I got a tell from him telling me to expect the requests while I was in mid-negotiations with all 3 LOL!)
Since the day of the Chef Revamp, I have had 3 factories running 1000 schems of trim non-stop. Soon as an order's done, it goes in a named pack onto my custom order vendor and I send out the pick-it-up mails. With the payments, I turn around and buy more fiberplast and polymer to do the next runs with a nice profit margin left over. I was getting my own resources, but the rate of consumption and the 20k requirement for the fib is more than I can keep up with. I had to outsource. I've had to squeeze in factory time for my own component needs so I recently had a chat with fellow Master Tailor Zoelie and asked if he'd mind if I refer Chefs to him when I was getting backed up. Thanks to Zoe being a crate making fiend, I might be able to catch my breath now. Thanks Zoe!
So yes, there are tailors out there making trim. You just need to ask them politely. Do not demand. Pay a fair price. Be patient. And realize it's costly and time consuming and generally a pain to make so much more than we need, especially if you don't come take if off our hands ASAP. We don't have the storage for that much trim to be lying around till whenever.
Oh, and don'tsay what one Chef said to me. "Why are you making those for my competition!?" Umm. Hello? I am not your personal barrel maker. Hmph. I am not under exclusive contract (that would be dumb), and he ended up last in line for the next factory runs.
