Thread: Other Career Paths for Tailors?

I started as a scout, with marksman, artisan and medic as well. I almost got to master scout but didn't really see the point of continuing that way, so I spent more time working on the artisan branch and I mastered it (never got master though as I didn't see the point). I started tailoring.

So basically I have the exploration and hunting lines of scouting, because I love being able to walk aggressive creatures to get to my harvesters, and being able to get hides is nice. I dropped the rest. I have novice medic as well for when I want to heal myself so I don't depend on medics, and I am now novice pistoleer as well and working on it. However I am getting low on points and I am going to have to give up on more things, I might drop novice medic and some of the scout line but it would annoy me. I really wish we had more points to spend.

I'm curious what other skills tailors have, especially masters. I play around with character builders a lot, and try to figure out where I might go after tailor (or even as a side trip on the way to master).

Originally I was going to head for Master Dancer/Master Tailor. What better way to show off all those clothes? But I found that I really didn't like dancing, and being "just another Twi'lek" in the Cantina. I thought about getting some CH skills, but really won't have enough points (or health bar!) to be effective in combat. I have a second char who I plan on adventuring with, so Ri'a is really going pure artisan/merchant/townie.

My new proposed career path is Expert Bartender and Tattoo Artist. I thought that would be an interesting combo.. get to meet people, socialize, and change my lekku pattern whenever I want (or at least I think so).

What sort of combinations are other people doing?

(Hmmm.. and if an Image Designer has no resource costs.. does that mean his/her services should be free? Well, we'll save that discussion for another thread!)

Right now I'm an artisan/marksman/scout/medic/tailor/bioengineer/architect.

I don't recommend it.

I'll probably drop Architect (and the whole Engineering line) to finish off my Tailor boxes, max the Tissues track in Bioengineering, and depending on the point balance at that juncture, maybe takeup Carbineer.

If I didn't like to shoot things, I would kill the whole marksman investment and reallocate those points either to master Bioengineering, pick up Chef, or dabble in Creature Handling. Both Chef and CH compliment Bioengineering well, as does Tailoring.

Another option would be just to shift my Architect points over to Armorsmithing, but having Artisan skillsbranching offboth Engineering and Domestic Arts just spreads me too thin if I want to go adventuring as well.

Hmm.. I need to look at the bioengineering line again.. it does seem a good complement to tailoring.

So many choices, so few points.

Oh, and then there are the elite elite professions coming in the future.. /sigh :-)

Something I had heard that sounded interesting to supplement/complement tailoring was Bio-Engineer.... for the custom enhancing clothing.

As far as Image Designers go... being a Master ID myself, Iwork only fortips, as do most Master IDs on my server. That, in a way, is working for free. I earn enough to pay my bills, I meet lots of cool people, and I feel no pressure to do any more than I want to do. But on the flip side, why do you charge anything more than material cost for your clothing? Never mind... you are right... let's keep this discussion clean, and on topic for tailors.

Well, it would, if tissues worked.

SOE is going to do a full re-design on the BE profession at some point, but they've announced no ETA. I'd guess it'll prolly be a month or two.

LOL... slow typing makes my response come in late... in that case, I agree that BE is a good option for you.

See my other thread for a discussion of ID pricing and how it fits into our tailor pricing arguments.

Disclaimer: I think ID's should get paid for their services, and if I ever get around to getting a skin color change I will gladly pay the "going rate" whatever that may be.

Well, I guess the only problem with bio-engineer is getting the scouting exp. My weapon skills are non-existant, and I really don't care. :-) On the other hand, I did get a reasonably good pet the other day.. so maybe I can mow down newbie mobs, skin 'em, and get the scout exp and needed hides that way.

More and more choices.. if they add margarita's in the game I'm going bartender all the way!

I'm all over the lot:

Tailor: Going for Master Tailor
Artisan: Master Artisan (though I think crafting one Nemoidian Bird Cage for a friend is about the full extent of what I've used it for), on the theory of "why not", and upon discovering that Apprentice XP is "gated" - you're limited to the XP it'd take to have two Master promotions
Merchant: Efficiency IV, Advertising III, Hiring I, not sure how much I'm ultimately gonna invest here.

Scout: Smattering of low-level stuff - Exploration II, Trapping II, Hunting II, er, Tent-Building, or whaterver it's called, I.
Marksman: Pistol IV, intend to get at least Novice Pistoleer
Medic: First Aid II, and the Medical Use one I - basically picked this up solely because my trusty little droid clothing assistant also came with a built-in medical module.

I'm not sure ultimately where I'm going - I'll eventually have to drop some stuff to get Master Tailor, and Master Artisan and some Engineering boxes will probably be first to go.

I'm a master tailor/master id. this works. Customers who come to the shop for ID end up with clothes, adn vice versa. ID sometimes seals the deal on certain items (i.e. matching skin color perfectly). I wouldn't go ID halfway. Just like nobody wants a non-master tailor item, there seems to be the fear that a non master ID will not be able to put them back.

FYI Lekku PATTERNS are hair 4 (I'm sure), lekku COLORS are markings 2 or 3. It's a pain that they're not both under markings.

I don't know if merch will be viable after the nerf. COnversely, it may be necessary to put in the points for lower vendor fees just to stay in business.

Im master tailor atm with various skills scattered in the merchant tree. I had qualified for armoursmith but had to drop it due to that stupid bug

Im currently heading up the bio engineer tree (tissues) and am going to retake armoursmith as soon as its fixed

Wow, Sam, you and I have a lot in common! Architect/marksman/tailor/scout/soon-to-be BE. I am also giving up on Architect and the Engineering Artisan line (sick of that "rat race")so that I can become a "pretty good" tailor and BE. Not going to be able to master either unless I give up markman, and that just aint gonna happen

I think the synergy between scout/BE/tailor is pretty good in that it's fairly easy to get the hides I need for tailoring, and my BE tissues will, hopefully, make my tailoring products special (once they fix that aspect of it).
