For those of you who don't have a calculator handy, that works out to 3200credits per day per 100K of inventory. I can see my vendor stock getting WAY trimmed down if this works out to be the final number.

This is a HORRIBLE way to implement vendor fees. This just hurts everyone and it's especially bad for tailors since we have huge inventories in order to provide the best selection.

I agree.. my vendor sales average maybe 5K a day during the week.. my maintenance fees would basicallymake me lose money (assuming 200K in inventory).

Ugh.

/sigh Well. So much for being a casual gamer and a Tailor/Merchant with an independent shop. Or is that what they are trying to stop? People like me? /frown

If these changes are implemented it's really going to hurt tailors who like to keep a good amount of items in stock and give the customers more choice. Seems to be another very poorly thought out idea by SOE.

Please post on the thread.

I posted. I'm glad they are asking for our input instead of putting them in the game without warning.

What I hope is that when they do put it in on live, no matter what version of fees it eventually turns out to be, that they give us a few days notice before it's implemented so we can empty our vendors and then restock gradually to find out how the new fees run instead of logging in one day and finding out you suddenly owe 300,000 in fees on your single vendor.

Sorry for the run-on sentence. You don't want to see what I do if I rant. That is truly ugly. Heh.

Trouble is, they're asking us for our input in the sense that they're cutting off our left arms, then asking for our advice on whether they should cut off the right arm right away, or find some way that they only take a hand or a few fingers.

The preliminary "fix" is going to be a catastrophe no matter what they might eventually come up with different.

BAH! This seals it. Shops are for suckers. The displays, inventories, vendor fees, location stagnation just isn't worth it. I was debating whether to remake my shop after our city move and this clinches the deal. Heck with it. I can drop business and merchant and get some great combat skills and A. not have to run from EVERY mob that camps my harvesters. B. Join the GCW and have some fun. Heck, theres still the bazaar for the 3k crowd that will get your name into personal tells and ingame email. So feck it. Traveling Master Tailor at your service.

Well, I disagree. At first, I thought vendor fees this high were/are a terrible thing. You pretty much have to guarantee you're going to sell something in order to minimize your losses (and then you can overcharge on your items to make up for the maintenance difference). Meaning it cuts out the semi-serious artisan/crafter-merchant. Instead, vendors will be left to those who focus solely on vendors -- Merchants.

There is a whole elite profession based on merchants. By making it hard for the semi-serious merchant, they are protecting the merchant profession. It's actually a boon for tailors... it means instead of competing with 100 other tailors with their own shops, you'll hook up with a merchant, who generates more traffic, and be able to sell in bulk... without having to own a shop or find your own customers. Serious merchants can afford the fees, because they're pretty much guaranteed to generate traffic, based on their advertising, the death of non-merchant shops (no competition) and their high volume of items/stock.

It really doesn't seem such a bad thing now...

SaldeeveVejasne, what you are describing is basically a clothing manufacturer who only supplies bulk clothing to big department stores. That might be okay for some people, but what I want my shop to be a nice high end boutique that places a huge value on face to face customer service and custom outfits. I didn't become a tailor simply to make money by churning out clothes every day.

Sigh, I'm getting really tired ofcoping with all the roadblocks thrown in the path of crafters by the developers, either intentionally or by the seemingly endless number of bugs.

I'm sure you already know my response then. What you're describing is a merchant. Reduced vendor fees, advertising, reduced maintenance (housing, factories, harvesters, etc.) will allow you to pay the vendor fees. Plus, as a merchant, when everyone else is scared off because of fees, your business will pick up enough that you can raise prices to cover the extra vendor fees and still make huge profits.
