Thread: Who would be interested in chatting with other tailors?

Ok folks, my fiance bought me a dorky headset. So I thought it would be cool to do teamspeak, which is free. You just kinda log in and there you go, chatty, with friends. Much more effective than cross server chat, and you can do it while you're doing just about anything.

The problem: I have no frelling clue how to work it. I have to have a server? What what WHAT?

If this sounds like something you all want to do, perhaps one of you computer savvy peeps can help me out. Of course if nobody is interested, I'll be shouting on my headset to my friends in Lineage 2 instead. The fiance says it distorts my voice into horrible valley girl, which is alone enough reason to abstain.

I realize that this will let the cat out of the bag on any gender secrets, so I understand if some of y'all don't want to do this... or it's too dorky, or whatever.

This could be a tough thing to setup, especially for those with low bandwidth connections and/or mediocre performing computers. The thing is, SWG wasn't designed with realtime chatting in mind, so this voice chat thing would require its own software to run in the background of SWG. This software would almost certainly require a designated computer and ip address to run as the server, and act as a central location for the other people in the chat to connect and communicate data to.

I honestly have no idea where you would find software like that really, unless the headset came with some, I'd try google or download.com first.

JBurns

I use Ventrilo and it works really well even with dial-up. You can download it at www.ventrilo.com You have to keymap a key that you hold down to talk like a walkie talkie.

I was talking on teamspeak tonight with the game on and had no problems with it. Except my dang microphone getting up in my face- it and I are not on speaking terms right now.

Sitting at my computer with my headset on - I've never felt so nerdy in my life

I'm not sure... but I think in TS, you could disable the "hold down a button" thing.

Getting to know other tailors isn't bad at all. It would be fun to share stories with each other with their own tailoring experience and encounters, hehe.

In teamspeak there is no button - at least not that I used. It's voice activated and you can set the sensitivity (I set it high because I have a lot of background noise here...)

Hmmm, I'll have to ponder this. I think I like the no-push better because, honestly, I popped the windows keys off my keyboard with a spoonabout a year ago when every time I accidentally hit one, it crashed my DaoC. Apparently, since I have dsl, i can (ha ha) set up my own server, so I'll see if that is even within my limited computer knowledge.

It's so funny, some of the correspondents are computery people and they're always talking tech and comparativelyI sound like tarzan "me NJ. You fix necklace. Grunt."

I used to be in a clan with medal of honor and we used teamspeak first. Teamspeak is a solid voice chat program, not many bugs, and is very easy to use. Ventrilo is also a great program, thats the same or maybe better than teamspeak.

The main difference in the two is...how can I put this. Teamspeak sounds like an AM radio and Ventrilo sounds like an FM radio. You get what I'm saying? Ventrilo is much, much clearer sounding. The only thing is that to have a server on ventrilo you have to purchase one, and I dont know if someone wants to pay the money for it

If you are using a router, though, you will have to open ports and such for people to connect to you. Not exactly sure what ports though. I try to stay away from networking.../shudder
