Hi everyone.
I just started a new account last week. My main is a TKM/Ranger/Politician.
My second account is going to be a Master Artisan, Master Tailor, Master Droid Engineer, with the rest of the points dumped into Merchant.
I was just wondering if you guys had any advice for a noobie to crafting professions.
Since my main is a Ranger, gathering hide isn't a problem at all. other than hides, what resources should i stock up on the most? i currently have 4 heavy extractors pulling up a ton of fiberplast as it seems that is used alot by tailors. i have a good sized stack of Gemstone sitting around for jewelry, and lots of large stacks of metals for making droids that i can also use for things like metal fasteners.
it seems like i need to stock up on polymers and inertpetrochemical as well.
other than that stuff, what else should i stock up on? and which resource gets used the most?
and what items are best to craft for xp to grind through it?

Welcome to being a tailor. The resources requirements for Tailor are pretty simple, and quality doesn't matter which is a bonus.
From the FAQ:
General materials:
Specific materials (in small amounts)
- Fiberplast
- Polymer - though many items will accept lubricating oil, others will not. Best to just mine Polymer
- Steel
- Copper
- Metals of any type (though it's more efficient to just mine steel or copper
- Amorphous Gemstone
- Crystalline Gemstone
- Wooly Hides
- Bristley Hides
- Any Hides
- Iron (in small amounts)
- Ore (in small amounts)
- Bone (in small amounts)
- Avian meat (in small amounts)
- Plexite Amorphous Gemstone
- Green Diamond Crystalline Gemstone
- Thoraneum Steel
- Titanium Aluminum
- Tatooine Wooly Hide
- Nabooan Scaley Hide

now there's something i'd never think i'd see in a tailor item.

That's a great question, I'm looking through schematics now to find out. Hmm...
Now I feel like a total Tailor n00b....

well, i'm a tailor 1-0-0-0 now, and from the looks of my schematics so far, the most used resources are Metal (any type), Hide (any type), Fiberplast, and Polymer. will it typically remain that way, where as long as i have a large amount of these then i can craft most all tailor goods?

Yeah, that's basically most of tailor. Most common items anyway. Fiberplast, Polymer, Metal and hide.

Welcome to the profession
You will enjoy the grind NOT, LOL however it is well worth it in the end.
You said you were going for Master Arisan, Master Tailor, Master Droid and the rest for Merchant. Personally I wouldn't bother with Droid Engineer, I would drop Droid for Meerchant skills, these will be a lot more usefull than Droid. Also I would suggest Putting about 2/3 Factories down for mass producing items.
About Mass Producing items. I get a lot of orders for 1000 units of Synth Cloth, Reinforced Panels etc, so you can set 1 Factory on 1 order and still have another spare incase you get another big order
You mentioned you had 2 accounts, well this will benefit you as you will be able to servey for the resources with your Artisan Char, then log in with your other char and use his slots to drop Harvies and then just give both accounts admin rights to the harvies. Speaking of Harvies you will need quite a few of these.
Anyway I should get back and do some work, or should I create a sig file?
Danm SOE destroying my Real Life. LOL

thanks for the info. i'll have to go through and read the stickies tonight, after i read through the droid engineer ones too.
now if only resource vendors weren't price-gouging the shipwrights maybe i could buy cheap resources, but at least on lowca, everyone's jacking up their resource prices.
oh well, now that i have a second account, i have brand new empty lots to drop extractors on.

Avian meat is a new resource that came in with JTL. It is required in the Ithorian Ceremonial Headress.
Welcome to Tailoring! As everyone else has given you some good advice, my advice is read thru the FAQ a couple of times. A lot of great info in there about what resource to stock up on, what to grind if you are going to grind, and links to some great articles on business models, what to stock, and online catalogs of all the items we can make and fashion ideas.
Good luck!

one thing i was really hoping to do that i will not be able to do, is have one of each piece of clothing on display in my shop. but if i used a large house or a guild hall, i could only display 250 items, and it certainly looks like a Master Tailor can make plenty more than 250 items. i guess i'll just pick out some of the best looking outfits and display them.
by the way, the Ithorian Newsboy Hat rocks!! I just wish they made a Newsboy hat that everyone else could wear. Hats are definitly one thing that is lacking in the game. we have a few headdresses, the imperial hat, the newsboy hat, swoop helm, sunguard, and just a few others to choose from. i would LOVE to see more head wear, and possible some eyewear in the game (other than the special edition goggles.)
