Thread: I am convinced that tailors will be obsolete pretty soon.

I just get a sense that tailors will be completely useless unless something is done very soon.

However, it will probably be more like a slow decline of tailors, no new schematics coming into the game, more people becoming Jedi and more players wearing armor (with the combat revamp) then in about another year or two, the Dev's will ask us, "Why are their no tailors in the game?" So in 2 years they will decide that the tailor profession needs and overhaul, instead of working on it throughout all this to insure our profession has a place in the galaxy. It's discouraging to be the profession that the Dev's don't care about.

I honestly do not know what they are thinking or why they make certain changes without thinking of the full implications to all the professions.

I agree Akaara, the only thing I'm not sure about is the "more players wearing armor" bit. We know that the effectiveness of armor is going to come way down, particularly with regards to kinetic, so in a way I think that for PVE it may actually be more of an option to not wear armor then before, particularly if buffs stay the same (whether it be through a doctor or smuggler).

I dunno, depends on how it is implemented, but I don't think it's a slam dunk that armor becomes more popular. This is why I think we ought to chime in on the combat balance issue, and kinda remind the devs that we play a role, and are effected by combat balance decisions.

I think less people will be wearing armor after the revamp. Armor was never meant to be the monster it is now (along with buffs). I'm pretty sure the dependancy on both will decline with the revamp.

Don't know how many of you played tailor at launch, but it took me 3 months to get master tailor and a small tattoine house as my shop =) I was soo happy. I made a lot of money on folks who hated thier newbie clothes. Also the ham costs on armor were horrible and there were no doctor buff lines. People used spice to wear armor and when the downer came changed into clothes. We didnt have the mass amount of people wearing armor all the time. We didnt have mind brandy, so medics didnt wear a lot of armor either. No wookie armor. Nothing much above Tantel/Ubese. Frankly a return to the heavier armor hams are welcome. That over 1/2 the game population is in Composite armor is rediculous. And people might actually care about what they look like.

Just to be clear, Jedi robes will probably not be craftablebecause they signify rank and such. What I'm pushing for is simply a hooded cloak that everyone can wear. Don't be disappointed if that request takes a long time - a hooded cloak also implicates headwear, and needs to be modeled on both the heads and bodies of existing species, and probably on any new ones introduced. That's why it's such a pain in the butt.

Please bear with me. This is not a flame and it isn't a praise for the devs.

The problem with our profession isn't:

the so called socket nerf (I've had 2 people ever ask for it)

Jedi overpopulation (It's going to come down to good PvP player Jedi's running off the mediocre ones) or

the combat re-balance (I run into more people that fight un-buffed/un-armored than I do the other way)

Our problem is stagnation. We have had no new schematics added since I started playing last July other than the Chef items and the PoS limited use schematics. We have (not at my home PC right now so I can't check for sure) at least 30 different schematics for clothing but only a small percentage of those arecommonly used,a little large percentage are used once in a while and all the rest are either bugged or look ugly as sin. They need to pull the schmatics that no one wants and put in some new ones that have some sense of fashion to them. While they are at it they could add a few of the ones that we've been asking for.

I have one last question though. If they can make the Grand Healer's Robe, why is a hooded cloak that big a problem? The GHR is hooded.

100% agreement Cosma, well said. But with the frustration with all the stagnation, some of these other things really start to eat away at you.

i know n'jessi, i know it takes time... i'm just saying that jedi get these robes, i'm okay with that as i understand the mechanics behind it, IF they are hooded though... that'll be the last straw. The jedi getting a hooded robe before we can even craft one is ... ugh well i don't want to go off but yeah... you get the point.

I disagree with the assertion that after the rebalance armor will be less than desirable. Even if I have a suit of HAM sliced ubese with the minium possible Kinetic resistance all of my PVE damage will be cut in half. There is currently no clothing we can offer our customer that can compete with that. Kinetic is and will remain the base resistance of Ubese, it requires no layers that I know of to give the protective armor rating against kinetic and as such there is almost no one who can't wear a complete set unbuffed. Not even our Bio enhanced melee clothing, as it stands, can compare. Unless things change you can add an energy layer to ubese and achieve the same results for both energy and kinetic. I am no armorsmith but I think that Mabarri can also provide a virtually HAM free half damage adjustment to kinetic and energy for PVE and if not Tantel surely does. The combat rebalance may give the armorsmiths a break from composite to dabble with other armor more but I see know help for us as a result.

I have to agree with this. They have already said that armor is much too powerful and its effectiveness is going to be decreased. Personally, I think it is the doctor buffs and brandy that is too powerful, but that is something for another post. Anyway, to me the real danger depends on where they are going with the jedi revamp. As most people are going to become less effective with the combat rebalance, jedi are going to become much more powerful. If they decide to make jedi common then most of them will wear their robes and both armorsmiths and tailors will suffer (not to mention weaponsmiths). Somehow I think that armorsmiths and weaponsmiths are going to have lots of business making armor and weapons for ships though. I am not sure if they will add new schematics for us tailors to go along with the space expansion since we already have several flightsuits that we can make.
