Thread: How many tailors have conversaitons like this?
Mastamind: Hey kana
Mastamind: hehehehe
Mastamind: can u make cloaks?
Kana: Hi... sure!
Mastamind: in black?
Kana: Yep! If we tailors didn't have black we'd be out of business!
Mastamind: hahas true ok how much?
Kana: 1980 credits
Mastamind: ok howz bouts no sockets then it's cheaper right?
Kana: I don't charge for sockets, they just happen, life's little miracles
Mastamind: well u sell cheaper quality cloak for same price that's a rip off
Mastamind: no offense
Kana: Well first of all, that is offensive and second I don't charge anything for sockets, which is not a rip off, it's my pricing grid.
Mastamind: well I'll go find some1 with better pricing grid then
Kana: good luck
Mastamind then /tells me that...
"another tailor charges 1.8k with 4 sockets lol haha wut up now?"
I reply that that my prices are what I have decided are reasonable and affordable... and that if he can't accept that I dont always have 4 sockets, he doesn't understand tailoring.
His reply? "No u homo I do u just bad at business."
Kana (another lovely day as a tailor)
OMG! I get that at least twice a week! Then I get other people who tell me I do not charge enough. I had a guy come in the other day and tell me that he was there to find out my prices so that he could charge less too lolol. HUGS shrug it off and know we understand .

Well, my pricing scheme DOES include sockets - but it's also setup to add additional charges on bio bonuses as well - sockets are the smallest part of it.
My general answer to questions about pricing is that's just what they are. The surest way to NOT get any kind of discount is tell a craftsman they are wrong, stupid or trying to make them somehow feel guilty because YOU are poor. Some folks just don't get it. I've been lucky - only had one customer so far cross the line and think he could get a better price by argueing and bullying me, hahaha - I don't intimidate very well and I'm quite confident in my pricing scheme.
I made a fatal mistake of doing a tradein the other day. Customer had purchased a lot from me, I thought she was trading in my own work - till I saw it and it was someone elses. Ok, my bad - I'll deal, but then she starts telling OTHER people I do this. That wasn't fun trying to explain no - I made an exception for YOU, please don't tell other folks I have a revolving door on my sales.
Sorry - my sales floor isn't your personal closet.
when someone askes me specificly for sockets, i always tell them that sockets are random. however, if they're ordering a tailor item (as oppose to DA), there's a good chance they the item will come out with 3-4 sockets. if they want 4 sockets on a popular item (say a black shirt), i would charge them regular price and put the other attempts on vendor. else (if they want something completely random, like a crested vest) i tell them i don't guarantee sockets. if they want to pay me for extra attempts that's fine, but what am i gonna do with 5 crested vests?
as for people critizing prices... most people who've read my posts knows how i feel about that
let them go, these people aren't worth your time (i just feel sorry for the other tailor... unless they're mean also)

i have yet to run into this kind of customer on eclipse
which is pretty impressive considering how busy that server is (when its not down haha)
however the clue to how they behave is in their name
and i know what to expect
Actually, I can't say anyone has ever mentioned sockets to me *shrug* I'm at tailor 3 now, so usually get 2-3 sockets on average, but nobody has ever hassled me over them one way or the other (demanding them, or wanting a discount from lack of them).
That guy was rude, but sockets do have some value, so I dunno. I think if someone bemoaned the lack of sockets on something I made I would probably be inclined to either remake it until I got 2-3 sockets, or offer a discount, and give them the choice. But someone wanting something without sockets and then discounted? pffft, no way. It's a lot harder for me (fortunately) to make something without sockets than with.
I tell you, I've read all these horror stories on this board about "problem customers" and maybe I've just been blessed. 99% of the customers I've dealt with have been awesome.
