Thread: Do any of you tailors have combat?
Chiana,
I have Master Tailor and almost Master Pistoleer. I can't really comment on what your template should be, but I can recommed that you take a look at bloodfin.org and download their character builder. Its a small zip program that allows you to play with a set of skill points and you can build your character template and play around with it.
As far as my template goes, I have:
Artisan 4-4-4-1
Marksman 0-4-0-4
Merchant 3-0-0-1
Master Tailor
Pistoleer 4-4-4-4 (just waiting on 1 million xp to get Master)
This template uses up all available skill points. I have 0 remaining. I will have to drop something, somewhere in order to get Master Pistoleer. But for now, I do very well defending myself and I am a level 50.
Play around with the character builder. It also has FS skills that you can fill in to count towards your skill points as well.
Well, I don't have combat on my tailor, but I do have it on my entertainer alt. She has Master Ent, Master Musician, 0030 Dancer (for breakdance), 0404 Marksman, and 4044 Pistoleer. I can't say anything about lower boxes, as I have no experience with them (I respec'd into pistoleer and marksman), but where I'm at, it's well worth it. I have combat level 40, went hunting on Dantooine with a Jedi friend, and am currently doing the Rebel theme park just because I can. I'm having a lot of fun with combat post-CU. ![]()
Hope that helps at least a little.
No combat on me, just scout 4000 {for fishing and terrain negate}
so just wanted to comment on that side of it.
I do hire out for clearing spawn, I contract for hides, and purchase my resources.
I myself plan on dieing as a Master Artisan/Tailor/Merchant
I will say when I had pistol ages back, I did enjoy it.
Seemed fitting to carry a small weapon like that ![]()
Master rifleman
Scout 2010
Novice medic
Novice ent
I think thats what i finished on.

Hon, how about dropping your Master Tailor for a sec, respec to Master Pistoleer and visit your Tailoring Friend(tm) for the master training again?
Ipita
I started as a tailor, and will always be atailor. I had picked up dancer a few times, just to drop it again for SP. Because I missed it so much, I now have an alt that I'm working on mastering the entertainer profs with. I've always had combat, since everyone else I know is combat, and it's a good way for me and my RL/IG husband to do things together. My current template (decided post-CU; I was Master Pikeman up until a week ago, and realized that I will never again be a good tank, so I respec'd what I could):
Master Tailor
Master Pistoleer
Novice Rifleman (working on getting 1st two boxes in Concealment, so I can get the defense bonuses)
Scout 3-0-0-0 (for terrain negotiation)
This makes me CL 56. I don't know yet what I'll be after I get the two boxes in Rifleman, but it won't be much more than that, I'm guessing. I'm finding that I still can have fun, and my guild has frequent hunts, so I can get the xp I need and also be a good support person. ![]()
I think that dabbling in combat is a lot less viable then it used to be. Here's why:
1. As we are all painfully aware, it's all about combat level now. Skills, posessions, etc are all trumped by combat level.
2. Due to the insanely high rate at which people are able to gain xp now over the past few weeks, and a lot of creative re-specing, we now play in a game where virtually the entire playerbase has very high combat level.
3. Even before the big "combat level inflation", if you look at all the content they've added to the game over the past 12 months: the corvette, the death watch bunker, the villiage, and now the wookiee planet, all of it is scaledto level 80 combat characters. Your only chance at participating in this stuff as a small-time combat dabbler is to group with level 80 characters where you'll essentially be a "charity case". You'll be constantly dying due to your extremely low health, and you really won't be able to have much of an affect on the outcome of the fight.
So my advice would be to keep your tailor character "pure" and build another toon that is your combat character if you want to participate in that.

When I started this game I wanted to be a tailor, I love making clothes for my character. I gained master tailor the hardway. I had always been interested in TKA as there is something more "pure" about it then shooting everything in sight, it also fit my character and how she grew up. With the repec truth be told I was able to adjust my character to have TKM. The beauty of this combination is not only can I kick butt (combat level 54) without looking like an "armor Clone" but I can wear any outfit I want and still have better defense than most BH's or Commando's
I mean seriously a good looking Twi' in a revealing skirt and metal bikini......... ![]()
Here is my template
Master Tailor
TKM
Artisian 0440
Merchant 2240
What things are worth depends on what you want. If you want better protection from low-level critters, then even a small amount of combat skills will be useful. If you want to be part of a high-level combat group, you'll want to have at least a couple lines of an elite combat class.
Getting started when you are level 1 is easy. There's plenty of wimpy critters around the cities. Kill them until you're up a few levels, then do wimpy missions or find a low-level group to join up with.
If you're going Carbineer and want protection, I'd work on the Counterinsurgency line. It gives you the minor defense mods and the Carbine knockdown shot (Charge Shot). For damage in Carbines you'd want the Marksmanship line with Improved Rapid Fire. The Tactics line gives you speed and the area-effect shots, which aren't a good idea if you're by yourself. The Special Abilities line has your recoveries, which are nice but not required if you're not going to be doing a lot of combat.
(Warning: I haven't done a lot of combat post-CU; these are just my impressions from what I've done so far. Don't forget to check the Carbineer and Pistoleer FAQs for distilled info!)
