Thread: I feel so... naughty...
I started on Friday raisign my prices a bit. Mind you I was using a fair price calculation to give me 6% per resource plus a little somethign for factory made items, and for specific items, and a bit more for hides.. but not enough it seemed.
I sold around 20 clocks in a matter of a few hours. So I gradually raised my prices.
1k at first they sold liek hotcakes (whatever THAT means) then 1.2 and they still flew off the machine, 1.4 this HAS to slow down here, 1.5 by the gods still selling in soem cases as fast as I get them out, and then finally 1.8k and the sales have slowed down.
Now granted today is Monday and the 1.8k price did decent for the last half of Sunday but not where it was before. Maybe it is just that the area I am in is saturated, or maybe is it because weekends have higher numbers of players on?
What is your experience here in SW:G are weekends that much different than weekdays?
Am I charging too much for the cloaks?
Is 10k per resource too much to pay for hides? If so what is fair?
Thanks guys, I am making great money for ME compared to the shoe string budget I usually dangle on so I am happy there. I also don't want to over charge...
Feedback always welcome and usually needed

10k per resource is probably a little too much!
However, 10 creds per resource is a think fair. Sometimes you have to be a little flexible for the market, cloaks are one item that sells for more than the same x per resource formula that might work for other items. Dusters are the same.
If you want to be scientific about it, I think its a good idea to use an average price per resource pricing list, and also have a real cost per item, or minimum pricing list. Start all items off on the average pricing list, if it sells fast raise the price until sale sit at a rate you can handle without always being out of stock. Sounds like you are pretty much doing that anyway
Conversely, if something isn't moving, you can lower the price a little, as long as you don't go under your calculated minimum price .. unless you really just want to get rid of the item, though destroying it is sometimes the better option in those cases.
Also, I think sales usually are better over weekeends, when people have more time to play, and shop. I like to judge how well an item is selling over at least a week period if not longer, as business does fluctuate due to various factors beyond your control.
Not sure what server you are on, but cloaks on my server sell for 3-5k. So don't feel naughty about charging 1.8k

No edit button!
Should read:
However, 10 creds per resource is I think fair.
Or probably even:
However, 10 creds per resource is fair I think.
hehe
Thanks on all counts ![]()
I did exactly that I have my 3c per resource which is not truely my cost but it is my "never below" price, and my high end price which I started as 6c per as the two biggest tailors on my server appear to be near or under that selling Flight Suits for 7k or less) and I really did not want to go above the prices that everyone seems to already know by heart.
However these cloaks are just something that is off the charts!
Anyhow thanks for the feedback.
I've been doing the same actually, although not dramatically.
My route for weekends tends to feature Anchorhead heavily: there are a lot of PVP players there on the weekend who will pay very well for socketed items, and who really love the paramilitary camo's and gunman's dusters. I couldn't keep enough of them in stock.. *laughs* Weekends are easily my busiest time, and everything goes up 1-200cr or so during that period.
Well yes and no.
I was defneding pricign low but not Snow's idea of low, his idea of low was well below my idea of low ![]()
I was as I said there in favor of a resonable markup and never takign a loss, and I was working on a 6c per resource base price.
Snow was well below that I have to think.
But yeah I do still feel like I am doign somethign wrong by selling as high as I do, thus the "I feel so... naughty" title.. even though it was a bti of a joke I feel pretty okay with it ![]()
I sell cloaks for 4k a pop and they sell out before I've even put them all on my vendor.
Gotta stop thinking about "cost per resource" that's fine for the low level stuff, but not higher level stuff. If cloaks sell for 10k a cloak, than that's the fair price for them. The amount of resources has nothing to do with it once you get into the high levels where factories, skill, time, training and tell hell enter into it. ![]()
I sell cloaks for 2.5k, and I've only ever had one customer complain that they were too costly. I was really worried about overcharging people until I checked out other tailors' prices. Now I sell just slightly below the norm, but high enough that I make a good profit and don't totally saturate the market with high-end gear.
Pricing per ressource do not make sense for me. At all.
Even if they cost the same amount of ressources, items that require a lot of subcomponents, especially factory made ones, are much more slow, annoying and costly (factory costs), and yield less experience than items that just are made of two slots filled with a high amount of ressources. I can find low quality fiberplast at 2c per unit, yet steel at lower than 4c is hard to find. Bristley hides are more difficult to acquire in bulk like copper. It is harder to gather the fiberplast, polymer, variety 1 of rare cryst gemstone, variety 2 of rare amorph gemstone, copper, metal and the like ... needed for a grand twilek headpiece than the polymer and steel needed for a cartridge belt.
So unless you want to add various factors and corrective formulas (amount of different ressources, amount of rare ressource, extra cost for factory items, amount of different components), pricing a flat xx per ressource won't really depict the actual "cost" of makint the item.
And if you start to build complex formula with 20% more this for factory component or 50% more that for titanium aluminium ... you just end up to set up a SUBJECTIVE price, despite what you can think.
So in the end, it makes no sense.
So, my opinion is : "supply and demand" and don't sell yourself short. Heck actually people DO sell ressources for 6c per unit on bazaar. You are not selling boxes of ressources that any newbie 3 mins off the tutorial can produce, but hand made items that you put much money and effort to achieve, learning the tailor tree (and giving up skill credits that could help you in the galactic civil war or PvE challenges).
