Thread: Vote: Most useless piece of clothing
Ok, here's another fun thread, what is the most "useless" piece of clothing. You know, the one you've relisted 100 times so far in your vendor. The one your eye just naturally glosses over in your schematic list when looking over what you can make for a customer, or the one you now omit from mentioning when a customer asks what you can make.
My vote goes to.... warm hat.
A couple friends and I wear these when we want to look really intentionally rediculous, but other than that, I've never sold any of them, nor seen anyone wearing them.
Honorable Mention... High Quality Boots.... not only does it cost 10x more to make then other similar boots, but 9 out of 10 customers choose the other boots "straight up" just on looks alone.
lol, my vote would be for around half our schematics
. Some stuff I have sells regularly, but a lot of it never even gets looked at. Like gloves, they all look the same! They could delete half the gloves and we wouldn't notice
. The only vest worth trying to sell is the decorative vest, the others could go poof and we'd hardly notice
.
The warm hat and the small turban (**edit** I've forgotten what the turbans are really called again) are both non sellers for me. The decorative headdress sells sometimes, but I always shudder when it does cause it's so ugly.
Rarely do I get request for anything other then uniform boots, or womens shoes. And jackets, nobody wears half of em, and ditto goes for shirts and pants.
heh ah well.
warm hats, are you crazy? Aliens love those things, they look great on Trandoshans, Mon Cal...
Same with sunguards. Terrible on humans, great on aliens. Most crappy-looking clothing looks good on aliens and terrible on humans. Robes look good on aliens also.
My vote is probably for all those shirts that look exactly the same- come on, the formal shirt and the casual shirt, the only difference is that the line is two feet to the left on the formal....
also, all the belts, which just look dumb because they're so huge and clunky. Formal belt? No thanks, I'm NEVER wearing that to a formal occasion.
Also:
Wookie weighted waist wrap.
It's an advanced wookiee item but it looks like a miniskirt and no wookiee I've asked to try it on has actually bought it.
ungh.. the crested vest is so ugly i think... and the mangy vest...
but the winner is...
Maidens Dress! OMG who would wear that!
A good number of the belts actually sell fairly well, even though they don't fit very well. I think it's largely for the additional sockets, especially since it's wearable with armor. If it were possible to add bioengineering bonuses, belts would sell very well.
Sunguards, I've sold tons of them, including custom orders. I even stock them regularly as bioengineered clothing (medic bonuses) and I have no problems selling them.
I have never once sold a crested vest. That item looks like it might be cool but if I try it on it's ugly as heck.
As a funny side note, I sell alot of warm hats as well as high quality boots.
The funny thing I've noticed is that virtually every item interests *somebody*, even the ones I personally think look pretty bad. For example, I think the Sneaker and most of the "two-tone" boots don't look good, but they sell reasonably well,
I put a pair of purple desert crawlers on the bazaar because I was curious if anyone would buy them. We'll see if they do.
Worthless clothing? Hmm well I think the Weighted Waist Wrap looks like some sort of big diaper...I had a wookiee ask for one, not knowing what it looks like. He put them on and we both stared for a second then burst out laughing.
I am sure there are other things but I am too sleepy to think of them. ![]()
I agree about the Weighted Waist Wrap. Not only does it look like a diaper, it looks like a diaper with a full load in it. (This from a woman who used cloth diapers on all of her kids.) That wrap is downright awful. The Crested and Mangy vests are right up there with it.
The Maiden's Dress can actually look quite nice in brighter colors and a few accessories. But I think a lot of the clothing we don't like was originally intended to fit a role play use. I think the Designers intentions and vision when creating some of the clothing were fine in theory, but not in practice.
If I were going to role play a poor apprentice Tailor, struggling to make a credit or two, I'd wear clothes to fit that persona. If more people role played, you'd see things like the Councilman's Robe and Administrator's Robe sell better too. Those items are supposed to represent a status and profession.
Everyone wants to look good. Profession, scene, activity, role; doesn't matter. How many times have you seen a female run by in a Revealing Fleshwrap, carrying a large rifle and heading out to go hunt rancors or something? Honestly; if you were going monster hunting, would you wear that out in the badlands? Does your favorite Weaponsmith wear only a metal bikini and a fashionably pleated skirt? Is that really what a weapon maker would wear? Well no, but dang, she sure does look good. Heh. Great theory, but not gonna happen. People want to look hot, sharp, sinister, tough... profession and role be damned.
Not unless and until more people actually role play and those clothes are desired to suit the character's story or current situation or activity will we see poor beginning traders wearing the frumpier looking clothes, or Wealthy Ladies living in town and wearing only fine dresses and Nobles and City Adminstrators wearing imperious and stately looking robes. In the meantime, we have nearly half of our schematics that are collecting dust.
Sometimes though... if you use those items creatively in a display, showing the consumer what CAN be done with it if you have a little flair and dare... or wear them while out and about... some people will stop and ask you, "What is that you have on!?" Or compliment you on your outift and ask you to make them one like it. That... is a satisfying Tailor moment. To sell the unsellable. LOL.
