Thread: Is anyone else a little disappointed that tailors won't play a part in making Jedi robes?

Jedi Robes
Long awaited are the Jedi robes! Gone will be the days of Jedi running about in armor. The Jedi robe will provide a hidden toughness value that will protect the Jedi similar to armor but provide more of a Jedi feel. These robes will be issued to you as you advance through the quests and throughout the Force Ranking system and each have their own look based on rank. Should you lose rank your robe will be stripped from you and the appropriate level reissued.

On one hand, I'm overjoyed that we won't be seeing Jedi running around in composite armor anymore! On the other hand, I also envisioned tailors playing at least a small role in the creation of Jedi robes. After all, picturing a full Jedi fiddling over a clothing crafting station is a bit hard to do.

Maybe it's not too late to suggest some sort of tailor involvement in the creation of the robes? Even if it's as simple as a Jedi going to a tailor, purchasing a mundane robe, and then handing it to master NPC Jedi to imbue it with special force protection and to give it a different look.

Of course, if Jedi are only buying normal mundane cloaks and robes from us, we're not going to be making any big credits. But that's not the point in my opinion. Having some sort of tailor involvement, however basic, would be a nice gesture from the devs to show that we are in fact not being ignored. I just don't want to see us cut out of the loop again like we were when tailor-created saddles for mounts were suggested and dismissed.

I agree. I don't understand why they decided that we are not allowed to craft them. Maybe they will change their minds, though. Most likely they would give it to armorsmiths since it is technically armor, though.

I can't wait until the art team has time to put in some more art for us....

Hmm. I don't know. I can see the point of making the Robe Jedi only and not a craftable item. If it were Tailor made, anyone could buy it, wear it, and then there would be no honor imbued in wearing the Robe. It become merely the latest fashion fad. I think it's appropriate that the Robe is exclusive to Jedi.

The Jedi Robe is a symbolic mark of achievement. Of honor. Wisdom. It should be given only to those who have earned it.

I agree with the Devs on this one. Making the Robe a very limited reward, one that can be revoked... is a grand idea.

Well, I was thinking that it would only be wearable by jedi of the appropriate rank. I am just sad that they keep coming up with new clothes to put into the game with new art, but we never seem to be able to make it. Sometimes I feel like we are being punished or something.

This is true! In spite of that, though, there are plenty of ways to involve tailors without making the robes readily available to everyone else. Just as Jedi construct their own sabers, why not give them some role in the creation of their robe? Assign them a quest as part of their trials to seek out a tailor and purchase an ordinarycloak or some sort of robe to be used in the creation of their Jedi robe. Something... anything! In the end, though,I'm just trying to argue for the principle of being included.

Imagine, for a moment, if the announcement were phrased as follows:

"Upon completing their trials, Jedi will be issued a free set of non-decaying composite armor."

Armorsmiths would be up in arms at being sidestepped! And rightly so! Robes are our area, and failing to include us, even in some miniscule way, would be insulting.

I certainly wouldn't want everyone running around in Jedi robes, but there are many, many ways of allowing tailors to playsome sort of role. Unless they've forgotten about us... which I'm honestly starting to believe. I'm trying to keep my glass half full on this one, but "the necklace bug" is becoming a metaphor for the state of our profession.

Would it be so hard to make it craftable by tailors but only wearable by Jedi? Or at least have tailors make a component they would need to get it?

To be fair, they could have at least required some special tailor components be needed to craft this. I think its just more of the "ignore tailors" mentality. Nope, they could have included us and maintained RP if they wanted. Not a good enough excuse for me.

I'm by no means a programmer I bet something like this could be done:

Have something along the lines of a one time use schematic and loot item that only Jedi can get while going through a quest? Kinda like the AV-21, maybe tatoo it some how so only the Jedi that found the schemaic and the loot item can wear it once it's crafted and have a requirement that only a 'force sensitive' tailor can craft it and can only be traded to the Jedi that traded it to you?

Dunno just a thought.

I'm also having mixed feeling about the idea of the "force sensitive tailor". On one hand, I am excited about the idea of being able to become one! On the other hand, it basically rewards the people who have been hologrinding and decide to make their character a crafter. Those of us who have been tailors from the beginning and have not budged from that are kind of left behind.

I love the idea too! But they've repeatedly said that we won't have to change our skills around in the new system. They also mentioned the existence of a "Crafting Sensitivity" skill box, so I'm hopeful that we'll be able to choose from a whole suite of force sensitive skills that complement us as crafters and not as combatants. Also, the only thing that the hologrinders will benefit from in the new systemis faster advancement. And let's face it, most of us here are career tailors. And if there's one thing we all have in excess, that's patience.

Well, fortunately there won't be many of the hologrinders who decide to be force-sensitive tailors. I am kind of excited about the changes they are proposing and "crafting sensitivity" sounds really fun! I just hope that *all* professions have a chance of completing the quests. Us crafters should have a way to complete them too without having to drop most of our skills for a few months to do it. I am kind of afraid that some of the quest will be things on the order of becoming "uber" enough to kill everything in the Corvette solo.

My thoughts: keep it a non-craftable. There are so many other items that would be more apropriate for us to craft than this. Heck, we've got a list of them! As to supplying components…don't we do that enough already? No more! I will not craft another component for anyone but me (well, me and the AS I go to who gives me mad discounts for SC/RFPs…)
