Thread: Problems with looted schematic prices

There's an auction on the Sunruner thread right now for a crafters apron schematic, starting at 75K.

All fine and good, but if I charge a price for a looted schematic with ingredients based at that price, what kind of chance do I have for a sale? To spend that kind of money, I'd be looking to charge about 100K just to justify it to myself.

It's kind of moot anyway, as I'm a politician and tailor, so I don'thave 75K.

My question is this - does anyone have any tips for getting combat people to charge slightly more realistic prices for these schematics? My experience with lightweight packs is that people won't pay the prices they pay us.

I am the same basic template as you, politician and tailor, have bought a lot of the crafter's arpons for 75k - 100k and I buy lots of leather 6 and larger, that way I can make factory runs of the apron, and get more items per use and then sell them for 150k-200k, that way turning a profit is not hard.

Well I'm on Intrepid and if you think 75k is bad, I've seen them on vendors for 600k. /boggle

For my master tailor, if I can't afford the schematic I simply don't buy it. I have guild members that have given them to me because they have no use for them. I even traded one for a set of clothing, only to find that it was the coveted doc apron! /cheer

If the owners cannot sell them for the price they're asking they'll have 2 options: 1) hold onto a piece of loot that's useless to them or 2) lower their price. They have no other choices, but unfortunately neither do we.

Good luck and maybe you can work out a deal with said owner for some clothing or other items they may need more than they do that schematic...

I hear ya Gaidin. Intrepid is pricey compared to most other servers, but still, when someone sends you a tell, out of the blue, someone you never even heard of before, and kindly "offers" you a quest schematic -- for 1 million credits -- they shouldn't be offended when I respond with "No thank you, I can't afford that."

Idly watching the trade forum, I see the aprons and toolkits going for 500k to 1.5 mill all the time. Then the next day you'll see oneadvertised for 350k onsomeone's vendor. So why in the world would I pay as much for the schematic as the finished item would sell for? Because I can make three (or sometimes more) off that schem? Yeah, so? I still need to buy the looted comps too. And those sell in the same outrageous price ranges. So no. I ain't buyin' no schematic for 1 mil.

I simply skipped the whole insane and stressful auction part and listed that stuff on a vendor at 500k. It's the general auction buyout price and leaps over the whole auction hassle. And they sell. Go figure.

It seems it's not the same people playing the game and posting sometimes... Aprons go for 400k on the trade forums and backpacks for 200k when they (rarely) get auctionned, and if you advertize that you have them on your vendor for 200k and 100k nobody comes to buy them, lol.

The main issue I have with the aprons is that you never know what they are selling. Most of the times it won't be the medical crafting apron you are after because it's tailors reselling their structure/clothing schematics anyway.

I'm "fairly" lucky. I just joined a PA that hands me the looted subcomponents. So the price I can ask for the aprons has just reduced itself immensely. What I do not understand is this. The same people who'll pay 5 mil for a +5 skill tape wil scream rip-off when wanting to purchase a crafting apron with the same +5 they're looking for.../sigh

Let me add rq that I was asking no where near such an astronomical sum as 5 mill...1 was asking 100k for the medic one.

Excellent point. Not only that, it's not a single +5 or +3 on aprons, etc., it's multiples - and they ALL work! They often pay 1 mil per point for a skill tape, but cannot or will not see the quest schem items as a similar purchase. Why is that?

75k is what I normally pay for an apron schem on Shadowfire. And it's very profitable to do so. I've sold well over 100 aprons/packs/toolkits since they've been introduced and seen somewhere between 30 -40 millionin profits from doing so. Easily the biggest part of my business revenue wise. Business has slowed a lot recently: I sell about 2 or 3a week now. Presumably the well-heeled crafters have their aprons by now. But medic aprons still sell well and (for some odd reason) exquisite leotards. I keep expecting the market for packs to be stronger than it appears to be. I would think that just about every character could use one. *shrug*

Aprons are more common, so people are less willing to pay a lot for them.

Shouldn't the sources of schematics be dwindling now though? Is the influx of new players or old players who haven't done the quests yet still enough to keep the schematics prices down due to availability? I am sorely tempted to hoard back a batch of schematics for when they become more scarce.

Well, I am unintentionally hoarding a few...because I can't seem to get rid of the ones I have....

I've paid up to 100k for apron schematics, but here is the REAL problem:

If it is a chef or medical apron you are all set. I've sold those for as much as 500k. But if it is a tailor or architect apron, you are pretty much hosed. Questionable whether you should even waste the components to make the aprons cause they very likely won't sell at any price.
