Thread: Clothing restoration kits

Anyway, this is kind of scattered (I just woke up and I am *still* sick), but what do people think of this direction?

I think it's a neat idea. As long as buying one of these kits will not become a replacement to people buying new clothing. So they've got to use rare resources, but i just cannot see how something made of Asteroids could repair a destroyed piece of cloth. (and yes, i mean "cloth" like what clothing is made out of
) The Asteroids as an ingredient just doesn't seem to make sense, but at the same time, it would need to be made from Asteroids in order to retain it's rarity, as well as help encourage players to launch into space. (In space, no one can hear you scream, and that's because you're the only one out there in space
)
But i do like the idea, i know personally i've sold some clothing attachments i've looted for over 5 million credits (one Jedi-related one i sold for 22 million) and so i can understand why people will complain if their 0 condition item with a 22 million credit attachment is no longer equipable.
Another idea to consider for it is this: the Restoration Kit should ONLY work when the clothing hits 0 condition, so that it's not a 100%-always-working Clothing Repair tool.
just my thoughts...
Yea. In one sense it doesn't make sense to use asteroids except that it fills both the rarity and accessability to non-combat professions criteria. One way to think of it might be that asteroid resources are the same as any other resource but they are somehow "special". Then you use the astroid versions of the normal clothing resources, which would be petrochemical astroid and metallic asteroid.

it is hard for me to 'agree' to that
Restoring the clothes will not encourage buying new clothing, and in essence would only be a 'replaceble' ADK
if something like this was implemented I would want it only useable at a certain decay point, like 25% of max
and for it to remove points of condition each time, 5% or so, that way the item will indeed fall apart some day.

I'll have to ponder this more.

This is a really interesting idea! My one concern is dev intent. Are clothing attachments supposed to last forever? Or are they supposed to disappear at some point? At first I would have said that clothing attachments were supposed to leave the economy at some point. But with the failure to make decay meaningful, the low CA drop rate, and the introduction of ADK's, I'm not so sure.

I always thought they were supposed to dissapear from the economy at some point, but my gut feeling is that since CAs are not breaking game mechanics or balance and the reaction would almost certainly be violent if people lost their precious SEAs that they decided to back off and leave the status quo. Remember that 0/0 and 1/1 condition clothing was *going* to be made unequippable. It was scheduled to go in. People yelled and screamed and it was mysteriously dropped and never mentioned again.
I agree this is a 'better than leaving it as is' solution, but I imagine that loot based resources would be more likely than using asteroids. This would lead to the same situation we had when the loot resources first started dropping, anyone remember hdl going for 1 mil or more per piece?
Maybe we could convince the devs to add this as a quest like the RIS, which would FINALLY give tailor some new content and more of a challenge. /dreams
I wouldn't object to having this type of kit in game, its better than having "immortal" clothing so I can't see how it could make things worse for us. And I agree I'd rather this than have the gunbunnies getting upset at us because the devs fixed a bug!
I'm not sure if anyone else thinks the same way, but I know if I could repair 0 condition clothing then I would be more tempted to put together moremodded sets for myself (or at least for my sometimes combat alt). I could have a nice green combat set for hunting on Naboo, a sandy one for Tat, a purple one for Dant... so we might actually get more sales out of it. (Or maybe I am really clothing obsessed?
)
{Like once you make master at the 1 yr mark you can claim schem, but if you drop master away it goes til you are mastered for another yr.}

Yea, it would be dangerous, but the speeder restoration kits use asteroid resources! I know that nothing at all is going to happen during the last days of my time as correspondent, so if an idea like this was picked up the next correspondent would really have to lobby hard to make sure it was *not* loot based. I think they would listen and I think that they would get the support of most of the other correspondents (especially the pilot correspondent).
A quest for the schematic would be really nice too, but the most important thing is that the resources make it very expensive and that hopefully they would be obtainable by all of us instead of just having some combat character hand us some loot and demand we make them a free kit.
Unless they used existing loot to make it, just in larger quantities or something. I have so many hdl and clasps laying around that I find them everywhere I look. ![]()
The asteroids would be a more probable solution tho. Especially since you can be a pilot with no ground based fighting skills.
