Thread: Tailor grind: The future?
There we are, 820K TXP till Master Tailor. An awful horrible grind. Now the question is, can we expect adjustments to the XP curves, that being tuned down? A lot?
"A lot" based on the fact that I've a 75% confirmation/fear that factory XP will be removed soon too (I'm still waiting about a definition for "getting fixed", Raph
), the only tool that can backup this casual-unfriendly and CTS-inducing madness, thus you'd have to hand-grind thru all the mess if my fear becomes reality.
When will we be informed what will happen to the tailor/crafter grind?
oh man would that suck if it happens. I've so used my factory is a crutch to help advance myself. I don't want to craft a bazillion ribbed shirts.
Factories should only give 1/10 of the xp of hand crafted items. I don't see why they would remove the xp entirely.
Also, as you go higher up the Tailor tree, each item should give more xp per resource. I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but clothing in the Novice tailor box give about 2 xp per resource used and clothing in Casual 4 would give 2.8 xp for each resource used.
The following is a quote from the beta days. I'm pretty sure that it is still in effect.
"+ Tailoring XP for higher level recipes has been improved.
Instead of a flat 2.0 efficiency across the profession, the efficiency of objects rise towards 3.0 as you go up skill boxes"
Once you get field wear 4 you get some nice stuff to grind out if you have the resources. Cartridge belts and grenade belts are crazy with the XP..... if you have the resources to make them.
Based on my rudimentary calculations, if one *were* to pump out ribbed shirts to get to master, it would require approximately 175,555 of each resource required to make the shirt. That's about5,852 ribbed shirts! Of course this doesn't count how many times you'd crit fail along that road.....
and at my rate of bringing resources in and my current level of tailoring skill, that's about 46 days of playing and grinding to get there. Which I suppose really isn't all that bad. Just wish I had more resources so I could do it sooner. ;p
I dont agree with nerfing factories to 1/10 either. Right now I've one lot left, 8 of 'em are used on energy and resource harvesters only to sponsor a daily ribbed shirt production, the rest for sale to gain money, and a factory. The last remaininglot I need for a house, not a second factory (let alone I dont have the money foranother oneright now, nor the production capacity for required resources to feed it).
And regarding that factories require me to stay nearthem, I loose time, especially because they're slow. An XPnerf on them is not good at all, especially not with the crazy XP requirements skillboxes have.
I posted a ranty thread about this radiused factory XP some days ago, but didn't get any feedback at all about it. ButRaphassertedsomewhere else that it will be "fixed", whatever that means, because he opted to to forget to post details. I just hope it won't be a 1/10 nerf or something.
Why does everyone want to make mastering skills easier? Personally, I would like to see them RAISE the requirements. Why? Why do I make such an umpopular statement? Well, I'll tell ya why. Just like RL if it were easy to be successful, EVERYONE would be successful. I don't like talking about things like "the grind". Why? Because for me, this game is not about "the next skill box". It's about being in the SW universe and having a good time. I hear some people have actually Mastered some of the elite professions alread (at least the powergammers have SAID they have). First off, that's silly. You should not be able to master an elite profession in 1 week. Second, wouldn't that be boring? To already have achived one of your goals in this game? Yeah, you can make the cool stuff before everyone else, but wouldn't it get kind of redundant after a while?
Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I'm mission the point. Maybe I just like people to flame me. I don't know. Why do we feel compelled to make the game easier? Why can't we just enjoy ourselves without worrying about "the next skill box". I think a lot of people would enjoy this game more if they started playing more with their imaginations, and less with their quests to be "the best". Just my 2 cents.

I'm sorry Triple, but this is an online game. I respect that you are a casual player, but you should by no means have any chance at reaching Master Tailor in less than 3 mos playing "casually" (about 2 hours a night at most). I play more hardcore style and WANT it to take insane amounts of time to get to the Master level. Not so I can get ahead, but because I don't want to reach the end of the tree within a couple weeks and then have nothing further to develop as a tailor, beyond expanding the business. Short skill trees, short exp grinds are not conducive to a good game. MMORPG's are about character development and that should take significant amounts of time.. to keep me interested in the game longer. In Shadowbane you could create a character and exp him to level 50 (almost to the soft cap) over a holiday weekend. This kind of crap makes me not care about the character I develop and means I have no ties to the game or server I play on. Working my butt off to get to a high level and having some pride in my character on the other hand, does.
So, frankly, the casual gamer complaints about level grinding in SWG (and haven't you realized there is a lot more to do than just sit and craft) and every other game I've played are essentially things that would severely hurt the game. If you really don't want to commit a lot of time to a game MMORPGs are not for you. That's just the nature of the beast.
The above is not intended as a flame. =)
It does get easier.. grinding is still faster, but it's a toss up as to what you wanna do.
