Thread: Question for you Tailors
I think the most important thing to keep in stock is synth cloth, with metal fasteners a close second. After that it kind of depends on the individual tailor. I very rarely craft anything in the field wear tree so I hardly use RFP, but I know some people who live on that stuff. After synth cloth, reinforced fiber panels, trim, and jewelry settings. Probably everything will sell, including shoe soles and cargo pockets - I hate crafting those by hand.
You may also want to tap into the armorsmith market, and for that you will need a bit higher volume. Armorsmiths will need a lot of crates from the same factory schematic because they are crate-producing armor. For armorsmiths, I would actually bundle 20+ identical crates (500 panels) in a backpack and sell it that way. You can sell smaller bundles for tailors if you want (like a 5-identical crate pack). I personally like having crates all from the same factory run because you don't have any "leftovers" when you finish a crate. You should check with your friendly local armorsmith for more details.
If you are making crates for mass-production, I would recommend that you label your schematics with a date, so someone browsing your vendor can tell if two boxes come from the same factory run without checking the serial number. Example: "Synthetic Cloth 7/26" would be what you would name today's run. If you do two runs today, you may label the first one "Synthetic Cloth 7/26A" etc.

I'm thinking of opening a shop that stocks only Tailor Supplies ( Fiberplast Panels, Syn Cloth
My question is if there was a shop like this around (atleast i havent see one on my server) Would you shop there instead of making these in your own factories???? How much would you pay for a full crate of each of these supplies. As it looks right now im thinking that i may have to charge like 14-15k a crate for these??
2nd question is of all the parts which is most used and should i produce more of???
Thanks for any help!
The AS market is def. my goal here but i was thinking i would get some carry over into the tailor market as well mainly just because there are so many lazy ppl out there that want everything NOW NOW NOW and cant wait for it. I've started crafting all my pieces with the serial # in the title to help keep track but i didnt think of the pack idea... I really like that one, thanks!! Thanks for the + info!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think your clientbase would be primarily low-volume tailors who make the occasional outfit for friends, guildies, custom orders, but do not necessarily craft to stock a vendor. I've had people approach me about buying crates before, so I know the demand is out there.

I've found full runs and half runs in travel packs sell really well, and I have quite a few repeat customers who stop by to pick them up when needed.
The idea would seem to have potential. In addition to armorsmiths using synthetic cloth and rfp, chefs use tons of trim, and architects also use synthetic cloth (and trim?).
A friend of mine actually attempted this (having a vendor on global search that catered to people wanting to buy crates of tailor components) but the idea didn't take off. He abandoned the idea a month or so later (this is on Bria). That's not to say it can't work, but I think it's far from a "slam-dunk".
Personally, I have bought crates of components before, but always from the bazar, and the purchases are never large, usually 1 or 2 crates. These are for times when I've run out of something that I need to immediately satisfy a customer and I don't have time to run back to my shop, or do a factory run (or run to another planet or player city to buy off of some vendor).
I'm all about "making things easier" and if I thought it was more convenient to buy components then make them I wouldn't hesitate to do it, but to me it actually makes it harder. This is because making them doesn't really cost me any appreciable amount of my time, and being able to store them in the output hopper of my factory is very convenient, rather than having to deal with a pack full of 40 crates.

ye i got a vendor called tailoring supplies, i sell synth cloth and reinforced fibre panels in travel packs like 5x25 or 10x25, at 2500 for synth cloth and 3k for the RFP.
My trim never sells, its basically there for storage when i need it. Sold some metal fasteners once and my fibreplast panels sell now and again but my vendor is primarily there as storage to me with added bonus of it selling.
I think it is mostly selling to AS's but jewlery settings and metal fastners sell quite well.
I would try it out and see how it goes, try advertising on your galaxy trade board.
As far as product, I mostly sell synth cloth and rfp.. trim does good as well. I sell the synth and trim 2k per crate and rfp 3k per crate.
