Thread: Something to consider for our top 5??

I am not sure how many of you need this, but some of us sure could use this feature.

I am all for some kind of privacy feature being implented in the game. Now that I am Mayor and Tailor the tells can really be a handful. Sometimes I try and log in to do something other than tailoring, but then I get stuck making clothes.

I wish I could sneak into the game sometimes and be invisable or turn off tells.

Although I probably don't get so many tells as you (only being Tailor and not Mayor) I would love to be able to log on in 'invisible' mode, get my restocking done, and log off again without anyone knowing I was there.

I know the game is all about socializing and interacting with other players but there are times when I just would love to be left alone. I don't want to ignore people, or make enemies by always being 'afk', so sometimes the only option to get some peaceis to log out.

I've read that such a mode actually exists, though I've never really experimented with it much:

/anon

Supposedly, this makes you "anonymous," as if you're offline, though I'm not sure exactly what the details are. (e.g., if someone sends you a tell even though you appear to be offline, do you get it?)

That should be on everyone's top 5.

SWG has such an easy to use communication system - which is good - but just as much good comes from it so does bad since there isn't any privacy options. You should be able to manipulate your online status and to halt all incoming tells except for a list of names that you type in. Also, when someone is placed on ignore they should never see that your online or hear what your character says outloud.

And that's just among many privacy features that are crucial when such open communication exists.

/anon only removes you from the search.

A rebel could type /who imperial and get a list of every overt imperial in his area who isn't /anon.

A person looking for a particular professian for either training or something else can search for them. If they search fora Master Tailor and your anonymous you will not show up on their search - the same effect as taking off your title.

Anonymous does not make your status appear to be offline. The only time people appear to be offline when really are online is when... Well I don't know when. But that is a bug. Usually logging out and back in fixes it too.

Ah, OK. Thanks for the clarification on that.

anon does not work if you are well known! There should be some kind of privacy option. I don't feel this just a tailoring issue though but not sure how to get something like this looked into.

I've been a fan of privacy for I don't know how long, but I'm not sure we want to "take one for the team" and use one of our top 5 on it.

I'll see what I can dig up. Ugh, where are those privacy threads again?

There have been numerous requests for a true privacy system. Personally, I think the whole comm system needs an overhaul. It would be nice if I got a request to allow someone to view my online status. It would be nice if I could send a tell to more than one target (and don't tell me to create a chatroom just to send one message to two people.) It would be nice if I could selectively allow/block tells and only tells from whomever I desired. It would be nice if there was some way other than AFK to totally disable tells (note: taking Instant Messages out of a tab does not remove the AFK reply from the tab—in other words, even /anon, /afk, IMs not in-tab I still get spammed silly.) So many simple things that MUSHes, MUXes, and other text-based precursors to MMORPGs have allowed for years, but somehow never made it into SWG. *sigh*

But the tells sometimes get so bad, I don't even WANT to log into the game. It's just rediculous. I may go in the game and set up my afk message to something like, "Please do not disturb. The sooner I can finish up what I am working on, the quicker I can get back to you." Or something like that

AFK is an inadequate solution. First, I'd like to be able to selectively block tells, not blanket-block. I should be able to have an allow list and use, say, "/rejectmessage I'm currently occupied. Please send me a holomail with any relevant information, and I will get back to you as soon as I can." and then "/reject". Anyone not on my allow list would get my rejectmessage, and I would see neither the reject or the tell. Might seem like an odd request, but think about it: every /tell I get with my AFK up is at least 2 lines of spam. That's 2/5ths the size of my chat box. That means if I have a detailed AFK (2 lines instead of 1), 2 /tells scrolls my chatbox. Let's say I remove IMs from my spatial (or group, or guild) tabs and set a very short AFK. Okay, down to 1 line. So now 5 /tells scrolls my chatbox—not unheard of by any stretch. I want a way that I can get rid of all the spam! It's insane to me that I have no way to alert people that I'm unavailable for comms without spamming myself stupid.

Agreed! I don't want to come across as rude either so a privacy feature or a way to control your tells would be a much better option than an afk message which half the time gets ignored anyways.
