Thread: How good is Master Swordsman?
Hello. I have two characters I usually play on, one is an Imperial Commando, the other is a Swordsman/Ranger. I plan to master both of Ranger and swordsman, which leaves only enough points for part of medic.
Now, I've read stories about swordsmen soloing At-Sts and Krayt Dragons, and Force Sensitives. I keep on having to remind myself, I will probably never be able to fight something that great, because everyone who brags about killing these types of mobs are BUILT to do melee fighting, (IE: Master Brawler, Swordsman, Fencer and TK defenses) With all that, you're whirlwind of killing.
Sadly, I cannot master brawler or any of those defenses. Ontop of that, it seems that if I were to fight something like a Tusken Raider with my current skills (0/4/2/3) I am either killed, or nearly killed by my own HAM costs of using a two handed sword. I DO have 70% Ubese kinetic protection armor, which only seems to be worth wearing when I am buffed because I simply kill myself faster while using my specials.
What I'm asking is, Is anyone simply a Master Swordsman, with no other skills in melee combat like Master Brawler or Fencer, or Teras Kasi, who can prove me wrong when I say only people who have complete melee templates can take down krayts?
I like playing on my Ranger/Swordsman, but I also feel like it is the most un-star wars like professions there is, and that is why my Commando appeals to me. But I also realize that because of the melee nerf against Commandos, soloing is incredibly difficult, or very inane when you must burn your victim, equip a pistol, and then run around in circles until you can fire again. I am VERY split on this decision and would appreciate any output on my dilemma.

Is 2h hit 3 worth buying 2 more chains? Does the counterattack mod do much by the time you hit master? Is the additional +8 2h toughness from the leftmost chain noticable? Finally, and most importantly, is COB useful enough to pursue all the way up to master?
My template includes master brawler and 2h 0/4/0/4, with 18 points to spare. This allows me to take 1 more chain of 2h, 3 boxes of a TK or Fencer defensive chain, or drop Master Brawler to master Swordsman and take 1 full chain of TK or Fencer. It's a pretty tough choice.
What I really need to know is whether it's worth dropping Master Brawler to get Master Swordsman.
Would I be correct in assumign Swordsmen is pretty bad up until master? or am I just playing it wrong? (It doesn't seem like there is much strategy involved in Swordsman, besides Lower posture and mind bleeds. The only moves that I often have to use is intimidate and warcry, which rarely work, and my lower posture attack rarely works either,)

BTW dodge is NOT good for getting in melee range, cause your char stops running to dodge.
P.S. Answer my questions second. I'd like my hijacking here to be benign.
I'm also a ranger/swordsman but i dropped the master ranger to allow for picking up the fencer defense tree. The reason is ranger doesn't help you at all in combat against npc's or in pvp. In thoery it should help you vs creatures but some things are messed up. For one, the creature to hit bonus doesn't apply to melee attacks. Why i don't know, seems stupid to me but i don't know if its gonna change in the future or not. Second, sonic bombs give you an area dizzy which should be awesome with swordsman since we have so many area posture change attacks. The chance for knocking down 3 or 4 enemies at once made me all gitty when i first got them, but unfortanetly dizzy+posture change doesn't work right on creatures. Instead of Kd'ing them, they just sit and wait for the dizzy to wear off. I think thats supposed to change soon (in fact it was supposed to be fixed in the last patch but it wasn't appearently) , but right now, dizzy traps are in effect worthless.
I think you'll still be a force to reckon with against creatures. Buff's and good equipment can make any swordsman better and the ranger skills make you valuable in a group no matter what. Pvp is going to be a struggle for you however, and so are npc missions. Also cross your fingers and hope they fix those ranger issues. If they do I'll prolly try for master again myself.
There are only 10 types of people in this world, those who know binary and those who have friends.

Anyway...
I can solo Force Sensatives at 0402. Humanoid melee mobs are cake.
