Thread: Novice Swordman....what to train?
Hey
I'm a Novice (Heavy) Swordsman about to Train in my first notch of the skill tree under Swordsman.
Now I have 3 choices:
Int Offense=Two Hand Area Attack 1...higher training gives 2H Area Attack 2+3, plus some defense vs stun, dizzy, intimidate, and some +toughness
Int Techniques=Two Hand Head Hit 2...higher training gives speed and 2H Head hit 2
Int Defense=Two Hand Spin Attack 2...higher traininggives defensive stats and 2H Sweep 2
I'm leaning towards defense, since the 2H Spin attack 1 saves me many times. I think if I train to master in defense, it will be easier to get other skills.
Anyone have any opinions...maybe some Swordsmen that were in beta?
Thanks in advance
I'm at Advanced Technique right now and I plan to master that before the other lines (other than finesse) because the extra speed is great and helps you get more exp in groups, and because AOE attacks aren't really useful in PvP and because at master sword tech you get the title 'Battlemaster'
Wow, nice work Visk!
Hmm...my point was that having the defense may help when trying to get more xp for the other skills.
However, how is the 2 hand head hit2? If you have Advanced, does the speed make a huge difference with a fast sword (3.2ish speed weapon)?
2H Head Hit IIdoes as much damage a 2H Hit II, but it targets the mind pool instead of a random pool, so it's better in most cases, it's great vs single mobs. AOE attacks tend to draw aggro, which is good if you're the only tank in a group, but if you're in a group hunting on endor or something with multiple mobs the AOE is gonna pull all the mobs to you, and you'll get less exp because you'll be on the ground incapped all the time.
The speed increase has made a good difference in my axe's speed, I don't have a fast weapon yet, I've been using my 5.6 speed heavy axe the whole time so I can't tell you how it would effect a faster weapon.
In beta i worked the boxes horizontally rather than vertically....means i filled first the first box of every section..then the second...and so on...and i think i went rather fine with it.
Personally i really liked the area attack if we're talking hits here.
Thanks for the responses guys.
I have enough points to train, but haven't trained yet.
The Offense does sound good, but since the Attack is "Two Hand Area Attack 1", I'm afraid the damage will not be as good as the second level special hits, like "Two Hand Hit 2", which dishes out about 800-1600 damage. If the 2H Area Attack 1 deals the same amount of damage as lets say 2H Hit 1, then I'd rather go for something that hits for more, like the mind or spin attacks.
How did the dizzying effects work in beta? Did they make the target dizzy for a certain period of time, kind of like how knockdown works?
Thanks
From what I've heard, area hit 3 deals both dizzy and lowers posture. If this is true, it would eliminate the need of dizzying and then lunging a kiter(though youcould only dizzy by picking up some 1H skill.). But I can't really say for sure how well it will work. Will dizzy have a good chance of hitting?Does it really lower posture? I guess I may not know until I get it, but I will be sure to let people know once I get it (Though I am not going to be exp huntingfor a long time, because I am trying to gainimperial ranks. But I may get there fairly soon just from the rebel NPC's I kill.).
Also, the AE attacks have some pretty tight animations....I was very pleased.

Aww, man that really stinks. Yea, I've repooled skill points before, and you don't get the XP back, just the Skill Points. I feel for you man, it takes forever to get XP.
So did you try to use the Offensive new style? Was just wondering what kind of damage/effect it has.
I ended up going with the Defensive. The Spin Attack 2 works great against mutiple mobs. I've found so far that it damages the non-targetted more than the one you have targetted. Same type of damage as 2H Hit 2, roughly 800-1600+ or so, providing you don't miss.
I was thinking of training Technique, but you get a new Mind Hit attack wehn you train Finesse with Combat points, so I figured that I'd be getting that soon anyway.
I've been spending most of my time solo, so the Spin 2 is just what I needed...run into a swooper camp and spam it, everyone's dead ![]()
NashDarkSabre....arent those animations neat ?....Almost a reason alone togo for ourprofession tree ![]()
Vorontehsword,
**edit** that really sucks. I feel sorry for you but, at the same time I can't help but laugh a little at your terrible misfortune. May your future xp be swift.
