Thread: Is swordsman/fencer a good combo?
The thing I have against this combo is it'll restrict your long ranged capabilities. Which can be a pain when you beat down a critter to 1 hit point then it runs away, and try as you might you can't hit it again cause it's constantly out of range.
Bear in mind with this combo you're restricted to three damage types blast, kinetic and stun. Usually blast and kinetic can be highly resisted or even immune on the same creature. However the ability to dizzy with fencer then posture change with swordsman can work well as proven by TKAs and BHs. As such I'd advise one of the ranged professions to open up your damage options and also give yourself ranged damage mitigation.
Rifleman is good cause you can then stack four mind dots and continue to attack the same pool
Pistoller if you want the fencer type defence bonuses, it'll add heat and acid damage to your arsenal. Acid tends only to be highly resisted on insect type creatures which includes the rancor.
Carbiner, it'll give you knockdown, and continue to stack your counter attack bonuses (I think). Again heat and acid damage is added to your arsenal.
You might want to consider doctor for buffs and heals. Or Combat Medic for that added dot damage and mind heal.
Long winded answer but I think there's better than two melee classes.

hi guys this is my first forum so if its strange just ignore itbut i was wondering if this would be a good thing to go after cuz the dodge of a fencer and dmg of a swordsman i don't know but just give your opinon cuz i can't decide lol
The dodge mods wont work if you're wielding a 2h weapon. If you want a line from fencer, get the vs.status or melee/ranged defense ones.
The dodge wont' help you unless you are using one handed, liek the counterattack won't help unless youa re using two handed....
The only benifits to be gained by mixing melee's, are passive stats.
Melee Defense,Ranged Defense, Def. Status effects and Knock Down.....If you were to mix any melee with another, the obvious Choice Would be
TKA, the get good passive stats and tmeditate wich can be used by all melee....
Next would be Fencer, it has high passive stats, a little higher up than TKA, but meditate is the greatest thing in the world...
Swordsman is good solely becouse you can do large amounts of damage and to the mind.....but so can tkas...not as much...but they can still do it....and Swordsman have extreamly low passive defenses, but good toughness....but tka has more of that.....
Pikeman...pretty good at taking on large groups that are significantly weaker.....passive stats that are about half of what tka and fencer get, but still largely more than what swordsman get....
Brawler...very usefull skills, a little bit of stat boosts....you would be mostly here becouse swordsman and fencers don't have a direct Knock down move....this will give one of those to each of them, and double your chances to keep some one on the ground once you have dizied them.
If you want to you can master any Three of these proffesions...
Personaly I am going master tka/fencer/pikeman......but pikeman could be replaced with swordsman or brawler for a chenge that isn't neccisserily worse....
But tka and fencer are kind of the backbone of mixing melees.....
When I get back into the swing of things I will be dropping 2 lines of TKA to go for Master Swordsman/Master Fencer.
My reasoning:
- I always wanted to be a "true" blademaster, even if I'll end up using a hammer and a baton

- Fencer is great for tanking roles
- Swordsman is great for roles of damage dealing and killing heavily armored targets
- 3 damage types -- kinetic/stun/blast
- Strong attacks against the 2 best pools (imo) -- health/mind
- A high overall ranged/melee defense (I'm keeping the defensive mods from TKA)
- In groups I can deal health damage with fencer as this is the most common pool to drop first with a group
- Solo I can use fencer to apply dizzy/warcry and then KD and then switch to swordsman for actually dealing damage.
- TKA is a lot of fun, and a good profession, but there are just too many of them already
- It's about time I got around to mastering swordsman, two other characters of mine have started up that way and didn't make it to master.
...it was getting about time, Gabe !! ![]()
Thanks to my holiday holo i'm aboutgetting a taste of that combo myself (20k XP to go to Novice Fencer)
Does Swordsman's Counterattack and Carbine's Counterattack stack?
Haven't tried it in PvP though.
