Thread: You all know we have a weapon called a cleaver right? lol

It just dumbs me that some master swordsman dont even know what it is. One day my cleaver had 0 condition and I was in the middle of nowhere. Along comes a master swordsman. I ask:
Me: Do you have a cleaver I could buy mine broke.
Swordsman: Uhh what the hecks a cleaver?
Me: its the weapon we get at 2 handed 4.
Swordsman: Well no im sorry but if I havnt seen it , it must be a crappy weapon.
Me: Actually its better then that slow PH also the PH kills you if your not buffed.
Swordsman: Oh well whatever you say.
Actually the cleaver is a pretty good wep. Ham costs are low and sometimes you can get em pretty speedy.

I'm looking into geting one next time I'm near a city. What's the fastest speed possible before slicing? Also, what components should I get for a WS to make me a nice one with some kind of special property?

All hail the Cleaver!
At one point I was complaining about swordsman not having any good swords that were actually....swords. I wanted a huge Conan The Barbarian type sword.
Then lo and behold I realized that we can use the cleaver! Which is just that. It doesn't do the damage a hammer can but it's much faster, allowing me to heal or warcry faster, etc. And over time the speed plus damage seems to do as much or more than my hammer.
I don't have the stats handy on my particular weapons but lately I only whip out the hammer against foes with more kinetic resistance than blast, as cleaver does kinetic damage.

you want speed, 2hand curved sword. and every cleaver i have seen doesnt match up.
what are stats on yours?

the only advantage the cleaver has over the 2h curved is the min dmg being higher, which would make it the better pvp weapon, except that they introduced the scythe which kills both.
p.s. : is the cleaver a vibro weapon?

I only use my cleaver because it looks cool. But it is not a bad weapon and it is good for the level you get the cert for it, but most people move too quickly into novice sword that it is rarely used. Usually, I use the cleaver when I am in groups and dont need to do a lot of damage, one to save my other weapons from unnecessary abuse and two because I love how it looks. Pull one out from time to time, you will probably get oohs and ahhs from your group mates, as it is uncommon to see them in combat. Sometimes hard to find too since WS dont make a lot of them.

I know the curved sword is fastest, what I asked was how fast can a cleaver be made before slicing.

another decent, yet underused, and possibly unknown weapon is the two handed axe, it's stats are simmilar to the cleaver, except it's damage is a slight bit lower, but it has higher accuracy, and the speeds are about the same. ham costs are also lower than the cleaver as well (50 to 60 for health 20 to 30 for action, and something insignifigant for mind)

Anyhow, I estimate my cleaver does 27% less damage over a given time than my hammer, assuming equal number of succesful hits and equal resistance to kinetic and blast of target.
The cleaver is easily my favorite swordsman weapon as far as looks, but I guess I'll stick with my Black&Decker powerhammer until I can get a scythe, as I doubt a slice to damage or speed will help enough to overcome the 27%. The accuracy penalties on the hammer and the bonuses on the cleaver probably do a little to equalize them but only a very little I'd guess.
My current hammer: AS: 5.5 min: 166 max: 576
My current cleaver:AS: 3.3 min: 103 max: 223

Is it just me....It seems I'm the only one that buys and uses every single weapon a profession has to offer.....
My swordsman weapons look like this:
(all are not sliced)
2 hand cleaver - 3.4 spd, 102 - 222 damage, 45.1 wound, -8 -10 -8 range, 50 48 30 HAM
2 hand curved Sword - 2.5 spd, 62-248 damage, 39.6 wound, +8 +5 +8 range, 30 63 35 HAM
2 hand Axe- 3.7 spd, 133-195 damage, 33.2 wound, +11 +11 +10 range, 58 26 20 HAM
2 hand vibro axe - 4.5 spd, 114-244 damage, 25.0 wound, -19 -19 -19 range, 81 51 23 HAM
now I don't know how they stack up with everyone else weapons but they are pretty good weapons to me. my 2 hand cleaver is actually pretty darn good. I used it until I got the certification for the power hammer. I know the HAM cost on 2 hand weapons suck, but as long as you have 1500 strength, quickness and focus, HAM cost is zero.
I actually have more 2 hand weapons but these are the best ones I have besides my scythe and power hammers.

I generally only equip the Cleaver because it does look rather neat. I used to have a really nice cleaver, was i think like 2.1 speed or around that after a slice. Used it to grind through Swordsman my first time, but other then the damage being a little higher then a 2H Curved there really isnt much of a difference.

Cleaver I think is the best weapon a swordman can have if they didn't have buffs 24/7.
My cleaver does 227 max damage (not great I know) but has a speed of 2.3s whihc is actually faster then the few TH swords I have at the moment.
As I rarely use buffs and much armour the cleaver remains my weapon of choice by FAR. The ability to do a selection of many specials as actual specials other than your main attack without killing yourself is invaluable.
