Thread: Melee has now been officially gimped...
Pre-patch Me vs. Ranged scenario:
If attacked by them at ranged, I would run the other direction, usually behind an obstacle, wall, or inside a building. This way, they couldn't kite me, and the only way they could hit me would be to come to me, therefore giving me the chance to kill them, thanks to my very high damage. Usually I could only get probably 1-3 swings in before I died, against a skilled ranged player. But that was usually all I needed for a kill. But, on top of this, I also had to put up with ranged knockdown, and bleed shot, both of which were almost always certain death. But I'd still manage, thanks to our ability to kill so quickly.
Post-patch Me vs. Ranged Scenario:
If attacked by them at ranged, I run behind an obstacle and wait for them to come to me. As they run by me, I get a swing or two in, dealing a pitiful amount of damage compared to what I used to do. They proceed to kite me from the other direction, forcing me to run the other way, and hide behind the obstacle, all the while taking damage from their weapon. Rinse and repeat. Now, again, this is without them using knockdown or bleed shot. If they did, I'd die even more pitifully. The only ranged players I've killed post patch, were not very skilled. And most of them required me healing myself, to stand any kind of a chance.
Now that we can't one shot, we lost the one thing we had going for us. Ranged can compete with us damage wise, plus all the other goodies they get. I don't know much about all the ranged abilities, but I had a skill called "stopping shot" done on me many times today, that dealt like 300+ damage to me, which is just insane.
WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WHATSOEVER GOING FOR US ANY LONGER! WE ARE NOW GIMPS WITH BIG POINTY STICKS! *level of pissedofficity increasing to critical level*
I should just go buy a bloody AT-ST and rely on it for my kills. Because I just can't compete in PvP anymore unless I'm against a sucky as hell player, even with all my skill.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm too tired to think too deeply right now.
Do what I did.....stop getting involved in Pvp. I'm a pure melee fighter, I used to use a rifle and even advanced to Rifle Specialist but now that I've gotten into the swordsman tree I never use my gun. It takes so much xp to gain skill boxes in swordsman that I can't afford to use the rifle anymore. Plus I'll probably have to surrender those skills eventually anyway. PvP was just WAY too frustrating, the devs just decided to screw melee fighters over for some reason. I would like to fight in the war but I know I can't so I don't bother trying anymore.
I have found that I do have some uses in groups. Not many people have said it but having a strong swordsman along definitely raises the groups effectiveness. I've been with some pistol and carbine guys on hunts and I KNOW they would have been killed if I hadn't been there to hold back some of the tougher creatures.
the only time I will openly attack another player in in a confined space like a Cantina or some other small space................firearms professions do have the "stopping" shot that can one shot kill and they also have a nice little thing called a "disarming" shot that basically renders Swordman pretty much into cannon fodder.........
I guess the only profession that was meant to be a Swordsman is the Jedi...............

Ok, now that my rage has semi-subsided, I've decided to wrack my brain for any new strategies that could possibly win me some more PvP fights.

Two ideas:
1) just chain sweep with a fast weapon (I know HAM costs are hell).
2) Go for master brawler and use 2H lunge to knock them down.
This is exactly what I was thinking of last night when I was trying to think of strategies. I have never really used it, so I wasn't sure how well it works.
Heh, I guess the only way we can win is to fight dirty with stupid knockdown and bleed. But I guess the bastards deserve it for all the times they do it to us.
But that mind bleed must be beautiful...
