"I am currently a novice swordman and still have no chance"

I think you summed up your problem right there. Get yourself some bleeds and use the terrain to your advantage and you'll find kiters to not be such a huge problem at all.

I have yet to be beat by a master marksman, even when kited over a long distance.

You have yet to be beaten by a master marksman? Unless you are playing with a fairly large group, you wouldn't stand a chance. If you are out in the open doing missions, dont tell me you are running kiters down and killing them. If you know something I don't please enlighten me. Don't tell me you are just burst running to a house and waiting for them, they are not that stupid. Don't tell me lunge increases range to the point that you can beat a decentranged person. Don't tell me follow works. It just don't. Don't tell me that all these people are wrong about the imbalance between range and melee, unless you have something the rest of us don't.

Please, enlighten me...

Get an advanced chitin helmet with the acid protection put in it (should be around 30%) and pick up a crate of muon gold.

Eyeshot will not be a problem then.

As far as master marksmen, yes they cannot kill me. They do not do enough damage quick enough, one first aid (I'm near master doctor) stops any bleed they put on me and I can heal any health/action damage they do, and if they're running around with a rifle trying to hit me they're...well I'd call those people 'special'

Lunge is 15m, Intimidate is 20m. If you chase them long enough and have varied terrain (if you're out in the middle of a desert with no hills in 2000m then it'll be a tie because I'll stop chasing him) you will get in range of those skills and be able to take him down.

I do it all the time.

Give me a Scout blaster and Pistols IV and I can beat any non-buffed master swordsman if he doesn't heal. It may take me 15-30 minutes, but I will win. So anyone saying that they have yet to be beat by a master marksman, is either lying or has limited his PVP to marksmen that have no clue.

CLUE, Healthshot, Bodyshot, Bodyshot.....

Killing In Transit is impossible to beat when you don't use ranged weapons.

Admitedly, If the swordsman uses other skills, he becomes pretty hard to beat, but it doesn't mean he can beat the marksman. For example: a doc buffing him so that his regen rate is higher than the DPS of the pistol, or a usingspice drugs that do similar things, or a scout using grenades and traps, or a swordsman with other ranged attacks but then we aren't talking about melee vs. ranged anymore are we?

The fact is, a swordsman cannot catch a marksman, so while we may not lose, we can't win either.

I just want to point out right now any melee character (really any character at all) that does not pick up at least novice medic is asking to be beat in pve and pvp more often than not.

So, yes, Idris, in your little scenario Iprobably will lose (it will still depend on how the terrain is and if I can catch up and land a lunge so it will never be 100% marksman victory) but that scenario is something that will never ever happen to my character, and if any of you let it happen to you, you have the ability to adapt and changeso that it does not.

I dont know who your fighting but I am a master doc buffed to the hilt. I dont use Muon Gold because of the downtime, however it doesnt matter. You simply cannot keep that up. Take for example the other night. An imp was camping my mission. I have 1100 mind ham and I was killed with 3 short blasts to the mind before 15 seconds. I had no time to react. I don't beleive wookies can wear helmets. However you can't beat a kiting master marksman that is any good. He will simple stay out of range as long as it takes..

It really depends on the situation, Morath.

Most of the fights I get in are in town or there is some sort of cover I can get behind or buildings to run in or SOMETHING to use to my advantage to bring them in range.

I agree, out in the open in the middle of nowhere with no hills or rocks or trees or anything I'd probably be kited to death. However I'm not gonna give chase in that situation. What's the point?

We are not going to be able to kill everything all the time. Nobody is. That's all I'm trying to get accross here. Yes ranged weapons users have an advantage in that they have range. However you have the ability to take that away from them if you play smart and don't get too greedy and think you're invincible.

That's not what you really said above though. You made the comment that eventually you can win giving chase. I see what your saying but you will only take noobs doing that. Also, you made the comment that you can heal a bleed in 1 dose. Very rarely have I have done that as a master doc. It usually takes 2 to 5 heals on a bleed especially a nasty one.

A master marksman only has access to the first bleed in each weapon I believe (correct me if I'm wrong, I know that's the case with the pistol line at least being a former pistoleer myself).

I can and do remove those bleeds in one first aid attempt. Obviously more advanced bleeds take more tries.

What I actually said was:

"I have yet to be beat by a master marksman, even when kited over a long distance."

If I give up the chase because I cannot catch them I do not give them a de facto victory. That is at best a tie.

"If you chase them long enough and have varied terrain (if you're out in the middle of a desert with no hills in 2000m then it'll be a tie because I'll stop chasing him) you will get in range of those skills and be able to take him down."

Again, if the terrain does not exist where I can use it to my advantage to bring the target closer, or he bursts before me, I will give up chase and not fight, which again is not him beating me.

Now having said that I don't know that I would have done better in your situation where you were caught offguard while doing a mission. That puts extra variables on it that does not make it the standard one on one fight (how wounded were you? how alert were you? etc). I do know that as a zabrak with muon and my helmet I turn eyeshots into ~50 damage tickles that are not so big a threat assuming I can find cover to not get kited by it. Wookieshave a great weakness in the lack of being able to wear a helm and zabraks have a great strength inequilibrium (my ultimatefailsafe and the only way to 'quickheal' mind).

On the bleed issue, even if getting hit with an entry level bleed, very rarely does someone only bleed you one time. It is usually multiples. I find it very hard to believe that you heal most of the time in one heal. It just doesn't happen that often.

In any event, the rest of us noobs seem to have problems with the kiting and the ranged folks seem to agree that they have the real advantage. I'm glad you dont in your mind, but you are in about the 2% that feel there is not a real problem. As for the rest of us we will continue to push for the devs to throw us a bone.
