SWORDSMAN TOP 5ANSWERS 12/18



1. The HAM cost of our specials / weapons is too high


Throughout the next 2-3 publishes we will be going through 3 major passes: a HAM pass, a weapons pass and a PVP pass, all part of a major combat revision aiming at not only getting all combat professions in balance between eachother while still giving each profession its unique character, but also to make combat, whether PvP or PvE, fun, interesting, tactical and equal. Swordsmen playing on Test Center had recently the opportunity to get a first "taste" of the upcoming changes, throughthe experimental introduction of a new promising HAM system, where special costs are no longer handeled asdamage, but are directly deducted from max HAM values with a significantly accelerated regeneration time. The first results showed that it made combat way to easy, therefore ithas beenpulled out and is currently undergoing a revision.







2. Our specials lack of variety


The Devs agree about this lack of variety, therefore our specials will be revised throughout the above mentioned combat changes in order to give our profession its unique character. And as the best way of doing such a revision is to ask an expert, the Dev's are looking forward to our input regarding this matter. I'm going to create a stickythread aboutitafterfinishing thisand we can discuss it all there.







3. Wedon't have enoughdefense / toughness


This will be adressed first through the introduction of Damage mitigation in thecurrent update. It's designed to make us better tanks, especially against high level mobs and goes hand in hand with the creature rebalance. This is only a start though and like most of our other issues this issue will also be adressedin the upcomingHAM, weapons and PvP passes.







4. PvP issues


All PvP related issues (damage / equality) willbe gettingspecial attention through the mentioned PvP pass. At this point there are no details available yet. Expect to see more info coming in once the PvP pass is going to be adressed.







5. We want new weapons, especially swords


Yes, we will be getting new weapons. Not only will the current weapons be re-balancedthrough the weapons pass, but we will definitely also see new weapons which should overall add more fun to this topic. My task as correspondent will be to try bringing as many of your ideas / wishes as possible into the process, therefore i'm also going to create a sticky thread for this topic and we can collect all your ideas in one thread (and i remember that there are some great posts out there regarding this matter).








Question: Where is the scythe ?


Well....this one turned out being more difficult than expected. Like you, i wasn't really happy the day i read about Nym's new mission paying out a carbine. Having been confronted with this question at least once a week (pretty accurate estimate) since introduction of certifications in beta, i hope you understand how much i want thisissue getting solved. Eventhough i can't bring you a final answer today, i can confirm to you that through this exercise TH is aware of this issue now and that he's going to do the necessary to find an answer for us. Please be also aware that i transmitted your idea of making it a craftable weapon to the Correspondent Board.







I'm looking forward to your comments and our work on specials and weapons. As already announced we can also finally start working on our FAQ now, so that all basic, ever returning questions get their answers in a single thread.

Hmmmm...


First off let me say:


Great work Gorecki and thanks for sticking it out in the correspondent program. I am sure it only helps our cause when we aren't going through a correspondent a week.


Now, on to the replies.


The only thing I feel that was really directed at us was the request for more variety in our specials (and that is a big one) so I am defenitely pumped about that. The weapons and Ham issues are ones they seem to be trying to address with an over-all combat revamp. I do believe now is the time to make sure our voice is heard. It will be much easier for them to make changes and adjustments now based on our input than it will be once the phases have been implemented. After this last patch, I am watching my HAM costs more than anything. I seem to be having to heal in battle more often from my own special use than hits. I can't think of any other weapons off of the top of my head that use over 100 health base per special (except maybe a rocket launcher)


Again, thanks for the work Gorecki and I hope we can all help make the class what we know it can be.

I'm actually pretty worried about us being made WORSE, after all we do great dmg.


we do more dmg then most proffessions and have more defense then pikeman while doing about 2x the dmg. The way we are now i think we are one of the strongest offense classes out there, and more defense and more specials and less HAM costs is good... but they wont come without a price, and i would sacrifice any one of these things just to keep our great dmg output

Woohoo!

I'm glad we finally got the answers. Wish they were more detailed though.

I really wanted to hear a the devs reasoning for giving Swordsman so many of the same attacks, putting weapons certs for weapons that don't exist, the total lack of balance between the melee classes etc. Guess I misunderstood exactly what this Top 5 thing was supposed to be about.

Ofcourse, none of that matters aslong as its getting fixed.

i like what i just read... but i would agree, i dont want us to loose our damage output, i would sacrirfice anything that would be reasonable for us to keep our heavy damage. our ability as a tank does not lay in our defense, it lays in our ability to kill things before we get killed, and thus our defense is our ofense. i have taken down two pickets and a picket plains walker with taking a maximum of 345 or damage, but that was if my warcry2, and lunge2 hit on each one as went throug them, because when they are on the ground they take double damage, and die in a matter of two to three hits in total.


but i digress, all in all i like what i am reading.

I'm pretty happy with swords... I'd be a lot happier if we had...



  • Some more Defense vs. Dizzy for us.

  • A NEW attack introduced to specficially designed to cause blindness (maybe 2 attacks for blinding targets).

  • An attack that causes dizzy. (I know we have one that sorta works -- but, we need one that is specifically designed to dizzy the target.)

  • Lowered HAM costs for our specials and a few more swords introduced that have a great niche use.

Its been a while since i've been to the forums. I really hate to jump in and make a Statement cause I've been away for so many months. I've been swordsman since the game started... I'll never drop it. One thing I have to say though... as I'm sure all of are aware. Swordsman needs some sort of defence in PvP against our own Melee Comrades. Namely TKA... As it is now... a fight is decided upon Dizzy KD. That is just not fair. I am happy with some of the mods they have given us in combat, because its hella hard to hit us. But! When someone can just spam dizzy till it lands on you and then KD you, and the fight is over... I find it discouraging to really fight in PvP against TK. Our only way to land a Dizzy is through our master ability and area attack 3. And as we all know... at times our chances of landing a dizzy is little to none against TK's and their onslaught of defenses and mods. I hate to bring old stuff up if this has already been brought up, but as I said I have been away for a very very long time, and I'm not aware of a lot of the discussions that have taken place.

This has to do with weapons in general but it is a concern. Marksman can have Krayt enhanced weapons that out damage our weapons big time. There needs to be some special enhancements for melee weapons to balance this out. It sucks when you are running to kill someome or something and it is dead before you can get there.
