Thread: Problems with NPC AE's?

Heya. So NPC's have their specials and weapons again, which has added a bit of spice to critters like the Nightsisters. I have one question/concern though.

In the past, when NPC's used specials, they would sometimes have these strangeAE hits for very large damages. Have you guys noticed any of this? I had at least one case where I thought this might have happened to me.

In the past you might fight an elder or Axkva and be doing fine, and then one monstrous AE attack would destroy you (it was usually Cascade of Hatred I believe). I've had my entire HAM (all three bars) zeroed out from full. I was hoping this had been fixed with the armor hole fixes as well as the AE attack fixes -- which both happened during the time that NPC's were not using specials/weapons. But I'm not sure, there have been some spurious reports of similar events and like I said, at least once this seemed to happen to me.

So anyway, are you guys noticing anything like this? If so I'll make sure to bring it up, but I want to be sure that this is a recurring, reproducible problem. Hopefully I'm just mistaken.

cascade of hatred is a force power so your armor won't block it and yeah it does that much dmg

Wrong. Cascade of Hatred is 1handsaberflurry, it's a lightsaber special....so if Nightsisters are using Cascade of Hatred or any other LS move, I wonder if they're dealing LS damage that's going right through armor?

It used to be, back when creatures originally had special, their AoE's would exploit the corpse stacking bug, and just like a swordsman could deal massive dmg and level incredibly quickly with corpse stacking, these NPC's could demolish you with one of their similarly exploited AoE's.

After the npc update came I went to Dath with few friends and we decided to test how tought elders are now. Well all went pretty nice until elder used Storm of Animosity AE move and everyone near it took 3500-6500 damage and you might gues that lots of corpses appeared after that. So killing those high end mobs can be quite challenging now.

Yea, that's another master-level saber area attack. It sounds like they are doing pure lightsaber damage that will go directly through everyone's armor. These attacks are eeffective 360 degrees too...so one saber AOE by an Elder and everyone dies.


Needs to be fixed...it's nice that NPC's are using specials again, but this is a little out of hand I think.

i fought an eldar yesterday that did a 'Cascade of Hatred' attack on me, and the Elder had a Stun Baton in her hand, so i dropped like a sack of potatoes, i think the damage was about 3k, and she was intimidated (i think)

Yeah, these are lightsaber specials. However, they have always used these -- even before the lightsaber damage type. You can also find weird things like NPC's with pistols using strafe.

I'm not sure what happens with those moves. We killed a couple of elders and Axkva the other night -- one elder with a stun baton (ouch). Most of the damage we took just fine and after regrouping once we even took out the stun baton wielding elder with just 6 of us. There were a number of Jedi specials that did go right to our armor. All hits were going to armor except for the stun baton hits and the force powers (i.e. lightning, etc.). There was just the one hit that avoided armor that reminded me of past problems. Also there have been some reports on here cropping up. These specials shouldn't be doing 6k+ damage in general, or so I should think. Whether they are Jedi specials or not, whether they are lightsaber or not.

And yeah, I know that the NPC's used to abuse the AoE corpse bug and I was hoping that was all fixed and thus the absurd damage hits would go away. But I'm not so sure.

Anyway just post whatever experiences you might be having.

Actually it's not uncommon for me to use saber specials in excess of 6k on NPC's. Sounds like Nightsisters using Saber Specials are getting the same damage modifiers that Player Jedi are.

Well in my experience Jedi specials aren't that different from other specials -- same sorts of multipliers, etc. We weren't eeing the Nightsisters hit for such extreme damage with other specials -- so the 6k+ seems a bit out of scope with what they are normally doing. Even with a stun baton out, and us lacking stun batons, we were able to down an elder. It was just in certain cases where the damage seemed exceedingly extreme.

But I'll have to spend some more tim banging on nightsisters. I'm not sure about any of this, just wanted people to keep an eye out.

Whats strange is that my lightsaber specials have different modifiers based on what type of mob I'm using them on.

For instance...I can easily hit a Janta for 6,000 damage (or a bunch of grouped up Janta for 6k each or so), but when I use the same attack on say an Elder, I only hit for 3k. It's part of Sony's "behind the scenes" damage modifiers to make up for Sabers being made weaker than other profession's weapons until the combat balance.


On mid level mobs, Cascade of Hatred has about a 17.5x damage modifier...then it starts to go down as the mob level goes up. It's a strange system.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm not a Jedi but I hunt with a few and I believe that your LS are only AP2 until gen 4. So if your using a AP2 weapon against a Heavy armoured apponent such as a Elder there should be a modifier. I believe this is what you seeing about.
