Very very wrong....

I made master swordsmen, I used to be a master TKA. I have to say, something is wrong with swords.. Damage is HORRIBLE in PvP.

I have a 710dmg powerhammer and i've NEVER, EVER hit anyone for more than 300-400 with this in PvP, yet in PvE I seldom, if ever, hit for less than 4000-8000dmg.

In test after test on PA members, swords/hammers seldom exceeded 300-400 range. My nice 400dmg 2h sword, seldom hits for more than 100-200 range in PvP in test after test..

Yet.. I averaged 600-900 per hit as a TKA with a pair of VK's on.

So whats up? Medium Armor piercing broke? Swords suffering from a 90% PvP reduction in dmg rather than a 75%?

Clearly something is very wrong with this profession.

Finally some one else notieced too! I thought I was the only one!

However, after some thorough thinking, this is what i think it's happening in pvp:

TKA has unarm dmg mod, and that 250 (which is more like 300+) is added to our dmg on top of the vk. From the stats of your hammer, it seems like that you have the best weapons. So i will assume your vk's is around 45-220's (without additional powerup's). After adding this numbers toegether, in essence, you are holding a weaponwith a stat that is 300-470's speed. 2.2, ap1.

Now let's look at what swordman, I have no idea how you get a 2h sword in the 400's, but that's some a crazy 2hcs(i will assume that you used arancor tooth which will lower the mininum dmg of a 2hcs) The standard best 2hcs's are around 80's-330's. Since swordman have no 2 hand melee dmg mod (other than through skill attachements) One look at the comparision and you will noticed that it's a BIG difference. The maximum dmg you are doing w/ a 2hcs is bare hitting the lowend of a VK.

Let's look at the Power Hammer.Again, i have heard PH can go up to 700's with powerup's, so i assume yours is either around 190's-710. Now remember that this is a very wide dmg range. Chances are when you are dueling, you will be hitting for dmg smilar to what a TKA is doing. Some times you will be hitting for a lot more, some times a lot less.

Also, remember Melee Migitation 3, all the high end number that are reduced by 40%,crushing our hopesof ever gettinga one hit kill in PvP. Hope that shed some light. Swordman is for PvE, not PvP

Master Swordman/TKA/brawler

Lesson: use your 2hcs to do posture changes/kd against a TKA and switch to the hammer and hope that you get lucky and hit them. 2hcs just doesn't cut it when they are standing up. Kudo's to all the master swordman that beat down a master TKA who knows what they are doing. You guy's are the cream of the crop.

P.S. What ever happened to the 2 hand melee dmg bonus mod we have at the beginning of the game? I swear I remember seeing them on the Skill mod screen.

The other melee lines desperately need the same type of dmg mods as TKA. They just can't compete apparently, I know I can't..

Yet another reason this game is so poorly balanced, its unbelievable they haven't fixed this crap by now.

I think I will wait another week or two before I drop swords altogether and go back to TKA. See if they make any changes to improve them drastically, because thats what is needed.

Fencers do...it's called a stun baton. But TKA's don't.

Thats funny. Maybe you are just broken. I scored a 670 head hit on a standing target with a helmet on in pvp.

nono it's a special attack not the stun baton.

and tka's do get this special toi don't remeber what it is but it bypasses both toughness and armor i just can't rember what it is. it does like 300 damage a hit in pvp and that is with the other person having armor on and a master of a melee profession.

yet no one uses it because not many know what it does. i think it's combo hitfor tka and scatter hit for fencer not sure though.

Well, I can sort of see what he/she means. Our damage can be pretty low on average, which can be a bit disheartening.

But most of my fights I don't even stand toe to toe the whole time.

I would definately say we need more damage. Swordsman should be the highest damage melee class. And this damage should come through cool new swords...thus killing two birds with one stone.

But even though our damage is a bit lacking for the most part in PvP, I still feel we are much more powerful than TKA in PvP. All I can say is, I have much more confidence PvPing as a swordsman than I ever did when I was a TKM. TKA's are one trick ponies, and can't do much to win in certain situations. Whereas swordmen have a bunch of options they can utilize to win a fight.

And hell, if you really like TKA so much, you can just get the best of both worlds! I personally am a 4/0/0/4 TKA. That powerboost, FoW, and meditate are too much for me to pass up, as well as the nice +ranged/melee defense. And you could always get dizzy/KD if you wanted, as well (though I just use the warcry 2/lunge 2 combo, myself. Boy does it piss off those TKMs!).

Salahsur is right, TKA are almost unaffected by damage mitigation. Their unarmed damage bonus is unaffected by mitigation. According to their correspondent, TKA only loses about 9% of damage due to mitigation, whereas all other melees lose 60%.

Total BS if you ask me.

They get a awesome perk like that last patch, and not a day goes by where some jackass in their forum starts demanding dual VKs, stun damage, and force powers. What really sucks is that their correspondent seems to have a lot of pull with the devs. Who knows, maybe they will get it. :/

nash im a tkm/master gunfighter/0044 smuggler and i can take swordsman no problem unless they are wearing armor and i have to disagree that tks are only one move fighters most people just use kd2+uh3 because it is supposedly the best combo and im currently working on finding better combos for unarmed fighting. By the way I rarely use vks I dont wear armor and my raiding parties on anchorhead consist of about 3-4 people. Dont say a tk cant fight pvp hehe after all the situations tk has gotten me out of I could not boldly make that statement.

I also was tkm/master rifleman which is a good combo

now im working on swordsman my original prof i started with but dropped.

A big part of this is also that TKs are almost completely unaffected by the new Melee Damage mitigation skill. So while the hammer damage is getting reduced substantially, the TK damage is only being changed a little. Something that's been noted and reported by several melee lines' correspondents...

It might also be that your hammer just isn't very good. Quality of weapons makes a tremendous difference, and if you overlook anything it can have dire consequences.

It's not too hard to get around the damage differential. Just wear armor with high kinetic resist when you're facing a Teras Kasi. All of their damage falls directly into that category...

Yep, that's all you have to do.

Swordsman is definately better for PvP than TKA. TKA simply takes less skill for people to perform well with, so on the outside they seem better (dizzy/KD spammers ).

But if you are a TKA and come up against someone with 85% kinetic armor, you will wish you were a swordsman instead . Let's not forget the fact that defensive acuity sucks compared to counterattack.....or the fact that I can stand up from dizzy/KD 90% of the time...ormany other facts that make us better than TKA...

umm actually booth tka and fencers have an attack that bypass both armor and toughness. i forgot what it's called but it's insainly strong and perfect for pvp but not that many fencers/tkm know about it because most of them are kd/dizzy spammers.

The reason your hammer and 2h curved sucks in pvp is because of MELEE DAMAGE MIGRATION 3 that all master melee get. Try using a well built and high damage sliced cleaver in pvp (33% to 35%) and you will see you do better. TKM is noob anyway......I use to be one before just about everyone and his brother jumped on the kd\dizzy TKM bandwagon. Swordsman is way better IMO b/c of medium armor piercing and the bleeds that by-pass the defenses of ummm say 85% kenetic composite?.
