Thread: Curved Sword is AR2!!! (poor, useless Power Hammer)

Hey guys...I guess this is good for us overall, but it's a real big let down as far as the Power Hammer goes. It turns out our 2H Curved Sword is AR2. I've done some testing and the number floating over the head of AR0creatures is much higher than the combat spam shows. In fact, it mathematically matches up exactly as if our Curved Sword is AR2.

On the one hand this is very good news, because it explains our amazing damage. I do so much more damage with my Curved Sword, in comparison to my marksman friends, that it's amazing. Unfortunately it's a big slap in the face to the only justification for using the Power Hammer.

It's been theorized that the only use for the PH is against AR2 mobs, because it has a lower DPS than the Curved Sword. Unfortunately, since the Curved Sword is also AR2, the power hammer turns out to just be totally useless (With a DPS of half the CS, and poor to-hit, why would anyone use it? It's top end damage is barely even more than the Curved Sword).

I'm actually almost afraid to mention this information, because I can't help but wonder if it's supposed to be this way, or if it's just a bug. I don't really want to get the Curved Sword nerfed since, if anything, it is on par with how our class should be. However, as it stands now the PH is a totally useless PoS... Even the top-end damage is hardly higher than the Curved Sword. Very disappointing really.

Calculated out the DPS of my Curved Sword vs AR0 mobs is 104.8. With that sort of damage, maybe we should be complaining about HAM costs at all?

Hiya Nagorak,

thanks for doing all that reaearch on PH. I've seen over the weekend how much work you have put into the matter to make sense out of it.

Right now..and i wish i could say something else..all we can do is to wait for the Devs answer mail until we can send more stuff out. I really really hope we will get it in the next couple of days.

All that to say that the PH issue isn't forgotten and it seems to me that we will see it coming up as one of the issues in our mail. If not in the upcoming at the latest in the one after.

Thanks again.

well, that makes all weps in our line BUT the 2h curved useless... that really sucks... really, really, really sucks. Only way I can ever see the PH gettin used is against enemies with blast vulnerability, and high kinetic resists... that blows... Well, at least we now have the most uber melee wep in the game though

So I'm guessing the cleaver is AR1 then? Personally, I think the cleaver looks a helluva lot cooler than the curved sword. It's bigger, longer and scarier. Thats my 2 cents.

I am using a Two-Handed Axe. The number damage number over the creature's head is 156% of the number reported in the Combat Chat, making the measly Two-Handed Axe AP 2 also.

Actually, I doubt the two-handed axe is AP2. It probably actually is AP0.

During thefinal part ofbeta, the devs instituted what basically amounted to a hack, in which combat damage actually being dealt was increased over what was displaying in combat chat. (This was done because of complaints that even fights with low-level mobs were getting slow and uninteresting.)

The exact amount of the increase varied, but at the very end of beta, the multiplier for player weapons was 1.5.

I'm not sure if this hack was ever actually removed, or if it still remains to this day. If it's still around, this would explain the two-handed axe's damage being roughly 150% of what was listed in combat chat....

I really hope the next patch just SHOWS us the AR of these weapons so we don't have to play guessing games like this.

The power hammer has an advantage. It does blast damage instead of kenitic, or at least that is what it was supose to be.

If the curved sword is AR2, I say leave it as it is but make the Power Hammer AR3. It's slow, has mediocre damage stats and horrible HAM costs...might as well make it the one truly "heavy" melee weapon in the game.

I don't believe there's an across the board damage increase. If the number over the head is higher, it's because the weapon has armor penetration. If you do the math (multiply the damage times 1.25 then adjust for the resist % of the mobs) you'll come out with the exact number floating there.

I still thinks its incredibly assinine that we even have to use a Hammer in a swordsman profession. Anyways, I think they should do something because the PH is supposed to be the Swordsmans equivelent of a Riflemans laser rifle or a Carbineers laser carbine...........

The HAMS and the speed for PH is terrible for the damage its supposed to do (or rather, the damage it doesn't do)........

Curved sword is definitely not AR2 - there is a bug with how AP works on creatures. I can confirm this. I use Sword/Hammer as my combo, and frequently run into severe damage reduction with my sword vs mobs with armor (rebels mostly) but I get full damage on mobs without. I use my power hammer to avoid this.
