Thread: Curved Sword is AR2!!! (poor, useless Power Hammer)

From all my testing so far, it seems like it's AR2? Are you sure you're not going up against a mob with high Kinetic resist?

The way armor works is if the mob has a 50% kinetic resist, the overall damage is halved (after all adjustments for AR are made). So, say you attacked an AR1 rebel with 30% kinetic, your damage would be increased by 1.25, but then decreased to 70%. So your overall damage would still be lower than the number listed in combat spam.

Just to be sure I'll test my curved sword out tonight against some AR1 and AR2 mobs and see what numbers I come up with.

I also agree with setting Power Hammer to AR3, which would improve its stats a little. But, in addition the damage either needs to be increased or the to-hit penalty needs to be reduced to no more than -20. Maybe once you're a master it makes no difference but when I try to use it I miss so much that even if it's DPS was twice that of the curved sword, I'd still come out behind in my opinion. Every miss on such a slow weapon really kills you.

Powerhammers do more damage than any other 2-handed swords when they hit medium or heavy piercing. Read the mini guide for armors on the main.

My own opion on this Power Hammer, and Curved Sword is:

Keep the Curved Sword seeing how it fits with the title "Swordsman"

Dumb the Power Hammer, and replace it with a twohanded claymore, or some kind of SWORD, Since its in the Swordsman class, not a twohanded wielding Hammer of Piece of Crap

Fact: A hammer is not a Sword, two different weapons - so why does a Hammer exisit in a class entitled "Swordsman"???

Nagorak - I play on starsider, would be happy to demonstrate =) My power hammer does less damage than my sword but is more consistant (always 900-1100). Perfect example of this - Fight a Grand Wrix. Watch your damage.

Remember - the damage you do in the TEXT window may/may not be exactly the same as the number over their head, but the text is accurate. It won't tell you how much absolute damage you do - only how much you did total BEFORE armor reduction. For example - lets say I hit for 1000 against a mob that has 30% kinetic. They will only take 700 but the damage screen will show me 1000 damage done. however, if I use a katana It will show me doing far less (maybe 500) and THEN the armor is applied invisibly.

Anyone who wants try it - go find a Grand Wrix and use your Sword vs your Hammer.

Well, I think the axes deserve to be an important part of our profession...there are many people who like using the axes, with the Power Hammer being the end of the axe line. We can let the swords and axes coexist with the distinction that axes drain health and swords drain action. I prefer swords myself, and I would like to see another high level two-hand sword be implemented.

Ok, enough about the dmg/AR for a second. Take a look at the range modifiers:

2-hand curved sword 7/7/7

power hammer -40/-40/-40

HELLO? Anyone else notice that?

Yeah but that's where the problem is. The combat spam is how much damage the swing of the weapon did before ANY MODIFIERS. It basically doesn't tell you anything about how much damage you are really doing. Also, I'm not surprised your Powerhammer hits for more damage per hit, because it's top end damage is higher. The problem is, it's also half as fast...

But, there's no need to argue about whether the Powerhammer is better or not. Just try this out for yourself against a Grand Wrix. Check the resist of the creature with /ex. Then swing the curved sword and note the number above its head. Assuming the Wrix is AR2, the number above its head should be exactly the damage shown in combat - %resistance.

I'm pretty sure the Curved Sword is AR2, but I'm still going to test it out against something withwhen I get a chance.

Well try beating on a Bol Crusher with the 2h curved on Dantooine. AR 2 and 75% resist. It took a little while to kill that thing.

My 2 hander has a higher damage cap than my Power Hammer, so that isn't the case actually. I will guarantee you that the power hammer does more. Vs Giant Carrion Spats last night my 2 hander with a damage cap of 221 was doing 80-350 on normal hits. My Hammer was consistantly doing 300+ - sometimes over 400. On specials (Violent strike) My hammer did 980-1200 where my curved sword did 250-800.

Like I said - the Power Hammer is demonstrably armor piercing. The problem is that it does no EXTRA damage vs AR 0 things the way it is supposed to. However, it does not suffer damage reduction from fighting things with AR 2 or less.

Again if you want proof I can do tests and screens for ya =)

Yeah, we get all that...but does the power hammer look cooler?

Then I believe this debate is over.

You may all go out and buy power hammers. Go on...get.
