Thread: I hate to say the 2h curved sword needs nerfing, but this just doesn't feel right.

Let me preface this by saying I don't even have novice swordsman. I only have... expert 2h.

Yesterday I was using scalp blow on a greater shaupaut with my self-made 2h curved sword (62-247/2.6). This weapon isn't even sliced.

According to the main screen, I hit for 1300 damage against a creature with 5% kinetic resist.

That's 1300 damage, with a weapon I got certified for at advanced 2h, with a special attack I got at advanced 2h.

I don't know of a single novice combat branch in the game that can do that kind of damage with any attack at all, let alone one that can consistently target a single pool.

Heck, I know pistoleers who have to go halfway to master before they can do that kind of damage.

As much as I love making and using these 2h curved swords, does anyone else think that maybe putting the highest DPS weapon in the game (at least I think it is) in the hands of someone who's only been playing for about an hour or so isn't a good idea?

I suppose it would be good of me to actually propose a fix for this.

It's pretty simple, actually.

Just swap the certs for the two-handed cleaver and the 2h curved sword back to what they were before last Wednesday's patch. This does two things:

1)Actually makes people work for a little bit more than an hour to be able to use this weapon, and

2)No longer gives a player a cert at advanced for a weapon that requires someone with Master Melee Weapons Crafting (which in 90% of all cases means a master weaponsmith).

Don't need to worry, SOE will learn of their mistake for moving the for the swords... but HEY! Look on the bright side.... at least you're having fun bashing things in the mean time!

Also, this is the prime advantage of being a melee class, we do **edit** loads of damage, but we have to GET to the target first (which isnt too much a problem for mobs, but players are another idea..)

I think the best way to balance it is to reduce it's armor piercing to light instead of medium, and switch the cleaver's cert with it back to how it was before.

The bad news is that we never really get much better than that. Pistoleers get their skills later, but they also surpass us in damage output.

How it should be.

Curved swords should be Light AP (AP1) (Advnaced 2-handed)

Cleavers should be Medium AP (AP2) (Master 2-Handed)

Power Hammers should be Heavy AP (AP3) (Novice Swordsman)

The slower the weapon, the heftier the damage should be.

Swordsman should be less about the neat tricks and more about the massive damage.

That's your opinion. I feel that there's plenty of room for technique and finesse in a two-handed sword.

Buff up the power hammer so it does equal dps to the curved sword. Harder hits but slower. Then we can all choose the type of swordsmen we enjoy being.

In short, please don't force your vision of the profession on me.

The 2HCS will probably lose its AP2 and go back down to AP0, that would put it in line with the rest of the 2H weapons. The PH is a specialty weapon, much like the weapons the other elite Brawler professions get. You don't use the PH all the time, just against those enemies that are vulnerable to Blast. The "all-time-use" weapon for the Swordsman is the 2HCleaver.

I'm sure new schematics for new stuff will be comming, so don't worry about it so much.

Yeah, great, no offense, your not even novice swordsman so you honestly don't have any room to talk for crying nerf. Wow, your hitting newbie yard trash for alot. Thats great and all, but those numbers are gonna drop significantly once you start fighting bigger game.

No nerfs. Please.

Just bump up the damage for other swords and melee professions.

nerfs : Bad.

"Bumping balancing" : Better

Forget Ranged people...
