Hi all,
I have read the templates threads and after doing so am hoping to talk to somebody who has actually been on both sides of this.
My current template is Mswords/Mbrawler/fencer 0-4-4-0/tk 4-3-0-0/ medic 2-x-4-0/ fs speed IV.
After fighting these new sith I am finding myself really missing the ranged mitigation I used to enjoy as rifleman.
So my question is this.
Do you all think it would be worth it to give up the fencer and TK defenses to get pistoleer 0-0-4-0?
I know that for the high end stuff (elders etc) melee/ranged defense just doesn't matter and the low end stuff is dead too quick for it to matter. (BTW this is a strictly pve toon).
Thanks for any and all input.

Im:
Master Swords
Fencer 4440
Pistol Tech 4 (0040)
Medic 3240 (this floats around)
its more or less the state defense template. elders (who have powerful state attacks) cannot put a state on me, maybe 1 per fight. also same for pvp...but you get dotted alot and cant heal cuz of no doc which is almost a must in pvp now adays. and i love it, other than the pvp dot factor.

you could refer to the swordsman 101 which has links to helpful template threads...but ill give you a template if your looking for defense vs states and master brawler.
Master Swords
Master Brawler
Fencer 0-0-4-0
Pistoleer 0-0-4-0
Pikeman 0-0-4-0
Medic 2-0-0-0
the number on defense:
vs blind 110
vs dizzy 120
vs knock down 95 (kd doesnt mean anything wihtout dizzy)
vs posture change 50
vs stun 110
very very nice numbers, and ranged mitigation 2. its a great pvp template also.

Hrm....Don't have the sp's to do both fencer and pistol tech. Not without surrendering alot of medic and/or Mbrawler.
Points to ponder.

The mitigation is really the only thing I am concerned about here.
I can solo 3 thugs just fine too, The only time I get nervy is when I charge a full camp of thugs + pirates + outlaws and none of them go to melee, which is why I am inquiring as to testimonials from people who have given up some defense in favor of spending the extra skill points on Ranged Mitigation.

I´ve faced that question myself....was master brawler/tka/sword/medic2040 and some fs....i switched to the template shown in my sig....
btw. do the phase3 quest with some friends...BUT group only with the one u will do the quest with...for each member in the party 5 thugs will respawn after u captured the commander...its a pain...

Well, unless you are gonna be fighting with that pistol, then Ranged Mitigation will not matter.

AFAIK its a passiv defense like stat-defense or melee/ranged-defense and works no matter what u have equiped...imo only toughness and couterattack/dodge/block are related to the weapon u have equiped...

I use my swordsman for PvE almost exclusively so it isn't tweeked in the same manner as others who PvPwith that out of the way I find thepistol tech tree to beinvaluable when hunting. I simply got tired of watching rancors drop me on my ass all the time, with pistols tech thatdoesn't happen. Droids are always ranged attacks even when they are up next to me, that is mitigated with pistols. Like I said I wouldn't do swords without pistol tech. I rarelyget dizzied, when I am dizzy the odds of something KDing me is low, I can't remember the last time I was stunned, common states that I do get are intimidated & blind. Other than that most state affects will not stick, plus I have ranged mitigate 2, melee mitigate 3 and I'm happy. The important thing to note however is that my swordsman is not designed for PvP combat. If I was going to create a pure PvP template Imight keep the tech tree depending on which direction I was going to take the template. But for any PvE combo I think this can't be beat for the number of points you have to use to get it.
My guy.
FS reflex 4.4.4.4
FS combat 0.0.4.4
Master Swords
TK 4.0.0.0
Scout 4.0.4.0
Pistol 0.0.4.0
--- 8 skill points unused

I dont think the pistol line would do you much good in this case, seems that these mobs hit you no matter what. Its there strafe shot that is causing so much damage

ranged mitigation doesnt really help imo
I was a master rifleman/swordsman and i still was getting hit for 2000 damage.

Im currently Master Swords/ 0/0/1/0 Smug/ 0/0/4/0 Pistoleer/ 4/0/0/4 TK/ 2/0/4/0 medic and FS stuff, and i like it. pistoleer is great for the def vs KD, Dizzy, Blind, Stun (all important as swordsman), plus randged mit 1-2 are nice perks. i have been thinking about doing master brawler and dropping smug but i'd lose some FS stuff so i dunnno hehe
