As Yevad mentioned above, it was in fact a strafe that caused the unpleasant numbers to rise above my head. As soon as I had to break out stims I instantly thought of the ranged mitigation I used to have.

Hrm...Maybe just warcrying them from 20m out would allow me to force some more of them to melee.
