Thread: How to beat a TKA in a duel

I dueled a tka several times last night, three timeswith my curved sword 77-296 2.6spd, and twice with my powerhammer 151-540 6.0spd. My skills are 2/4/0/2. He was 0/3/2/2.

The first time we dueled with the curved sword it was everything goes, i got KD and never got back up.The second time we dueledwe had a noKD rule but all other specials.(I wasnt using mind hits because i wanted to test our damage output compared to theirs) After healing myself 3 times (with stim d's) and him not healing once I won.Third time we dueled we just stood toe to toe and hit attack, no specials and no heals, he won losing about 25% on his health and action bar and I was all white in health and 95% white in action. First duel with the powerhammer was no heals, all specials allowed except KD.He won pretty fast, the specials with my PH plus his lightning fast attacks wiped out my health bar pretty fast, he still had about 80% left in both health and action.I was missing like crazy with the PH and even when i did hit with my special it was doing about as much damage as some of his normal hits, his specials were doing much more damage than mine. We dueled again just autoattack toe to toe and again he kicked my butt, i missed about 9 times with my hammer and i dont think he missed once, he had about 75% left in both health and action afterwards. My conclusion:

There is no way we can stand toe to toe with TKAs in a duel. They do more damage and take way less punishment.

Iwanted to try a new tactic, so i decided to duel him again anything goes. This time I started of with a mind bleed and ran from him.He would follow me and i would turn around andrun through him spamming mind hit 2. The bleed took its toll and the mind hits i got in every now and then added to it. We dueled 3 times like this and with this tactic i won everytime. Sucks we have to run from them but if you play smart you can win.

Umm...I hate to tell you this, but you don't have any of the defensive line (ranged/melee defense) and you're not high enough in offense to have gotten 2H melee toughness. Also, I'm sorry to say, but the Power Hammer doesn't come into its own until Master Level (or at least Warrior, aka max finesse line) when you basically barely ever miss.

The Power Hammer you have is decent, although you can get better, and it sounds like you weren't using any weapon mods? A weapon mod either increases your speed by 15% or damage by 15%, while also reducing health or action cost (depending on the weapon), if you get the right mod. Basically we should always fight with weapon mods on, and that's something a TKA does not have access to.

Anyway, I'm not saying TKAs are not better than us, because I honestly don't know (I'd have to fight a Master TKA to fight). But, my experience thus far is whoever gets the knockdown first in melee will win (30 seconds doesn't matter, we kill in 5-10 seconds). If the other person is wearing no armor (as some people stupidly think armor is too hindering) then you'll win. If you're buffed and they're not, you'll win. I guess what I'm saying is the battlefield is rarely level, anyway, so even if they're slightly more powerful in "perfect conditions", it's probably not going to make that much difference in the long run.

That said, I am Master Brawler, so I can play the knockdown game. If I wasn't, I'd probably just drop swords and go Pike or TKA because the knockdown is still a very important tool in melee combat.

Just to clarify.... VibroKnuckles (novice TK cert) can use melee Mods. Some choose not to use any weapons... but some are avail to TK's =)

Here is a repost of a similar disscusion on my battle with a Tka last night, The only weapon i used was a power hammer, 105-469 3.8sec -34 accuracy The power up i had equiped had expierd before this began.

Got into a melee with a Master TKA in bestine last night, was fun to fight a another brawler class for a change. I am at the xpert lvl 3,3,2,2with heavysword, We were pretty evenly matched. In that i mean who ever got the first hit won. I could th2 mindhit3 with 1-2 hits if i got the first hit and thefight isover, otherwise he hits me with knockdown and i get one mind bleed2 hit on him and he takes me out before he is knocked out by the bleed. LOL of course before all this started i only had half of my health bar left that was not blackfrom a flame attack.

So it may be a lame attack to use but Mind hit and mind bleed, are our bread and butter till the knockdown and posture change are fixed, one way or another.

I also heard an awesome idea for us, get rid of the sweep and replaced it with area bleed attack, make it a random bleed on the differnt stats, so it could on one mob it give it a health bleed, on another miss, on the other a action bleed.

Why do you switch to the curved? You've already suffered the delay from the PH from the bleed, why not just get in another big mind hit?

yeah well if you face a tka and they use there mind attack after they kd you tere is no way in hell you will get up alive. even if you mindbleed them. a master tka played rigth will beat you every time except if you go the bleed them then run tech which i never do it's not honorable. the only way i see beating a tka is beat them at there own game get there defense mods in there tree. this way there mind attack will do alot less and you can wail them with your mind bleed folloed by your mindd attacks and you should win not to mention if you get all thoughs posture down kd defences from the tka line you will very rarly get kded.but if your a solid mastr Swordman vs an experianc tka master or not master but one that had gotton thr combat tree allready you will definanly lose.

so mix your brawler skills a bit and lvlup tka and you gt ther defnse mods you shuld do fine against a tkathat mind attack is just to deadly

Like i said, who ever gets the first hit wins. Mindattackswork, i will mind hit3, mind hit3, your out. of couse my power hammer is rather fast on attack speed so no need to switch weapons. And the ham cost for a tka to use specials is extreme, the most extreme of all professions. So he is helping you defeat him if he strings attacks together.

Thanks for the one star, but my point is switching to the curved is counter productive at master. So it doesn't make sense to do so.

Nagorak is right. There are lots of factors. Plus just to clarify we only get mind hit2 and mind hi1. Head hit is 3.

So your telling me if I buff all attrib to 2500, my mind is at 1100 focus is at 650 and willpower is at 600, that I will not be able to survive the mind attack? Will I just not be able to get up? Several of the people this guy hit got up but just didnt last long after that. Last night I was playing my other character when I was challenged. This tka had a lunge that reached accross the cantina. He beat serveral. Finally a bounty hunter came in and knocked him down and dizzied him. He bit it. Although he did beat some bounty hunters prior to that.

Their mind attack really isn't all that powerful if you're spiced and have good mind stats.

Even less powerful if you have a helmet (I know you're a wookie Morath, but just saying for the others).

I've fought a lot of master TKAs and it was usually in my favor when we'd fight, curved 2h (you really need to use this weapon, with their melee defense you will miss too much with the hammer) with head hit is as fast as their vibroknuckles and I'm doing 3x the damage. Knockdown/dizzy does give them an advantage but I usually start out with a posture change attack to give me that couple second delay anyway so they often times get interrupted since it's the first attack they do.

In my experience, the power hammer misses too much on Tkas.. but when it hits, whamo, 2x and they are knocked out i usualy switch to 2h curve since its much easier to hit with (on em) and much faster special attacks.
