no

we use 2handed weapons, our skillmods are called "2handed accuracy/speed/etc."

it should be a fencer skill ( or perhaps create a new class )

Not that I'm trying to flame anyone, but I fail to see how any of you who voted yes can logically justify this. As I said before, I USED to be a Fencer. Considering that at Novice level, my Swordsman does 2-3 times the damage my Fencer could on his best day, how can you honestly come here and say that we should get the ability to dual wield? Come on now.

From a pure balance perspective, giving Fencers the ability to dual-wield would easily bring them on par with Heavy Swordsman in terms of damage. But it would take them two weapons to do it, which would (logically anyway) increase HAM costs of special moves, and should reduce the accuracy of each weapon. If you gave dual-wielding to Swordsmen, they would have to be given a ton of one-handed weapon certs on top of the two-handed one to allow you to use those weapons, thereby relegating the Fencer even further into the abyss than it already is (something I didn't think was possible until reading/considering this thread). And what about the Pikemen?

While I'm all for melee combatants being given more useful advantages/options than a ton of posture altering moves (ugh), this is a bit much for one of the most outright damaging professions in the game. That would be like giving TKs the ability to equip 2 VKs to double their damage. Think about how hoakie that would be.

wow thatsas close as florida 2000!

its 45-45. I did have to inerpret a few of the votes because they were.. well.. you know... had hanging chads.

AGAIN as Gorecki has explained this poll has nothing to do with us or fencers getting dual wield but that doesn't mean Canadians Loggers can't discuss Palm Tree Farms.

most of the YES votesare "yes that would be a blast" and the NO are more puritanical in nature. Karballo's post was quite informative on the yes.. then m"aybe why not" side of the isle.

Please don't take this as a flame, as I assure you I am not taking yours as one, but I'm guessing you didn't read my post on this, did you? It's somewhere on page 2 or 3, I believe.

Not going to repost the entire thing (you can go back and read it if you wish), butto summarizeI'd ask that you (and everyone else who votes "no") stop thinking in a purely European sense and consider Japanese history. Specifically, consider the example of Miyamoto Musashi, a Japanese swordsman of the 16th centure who was not only considered the greatest swordsman who ever lived, but who also invented a two-sword style.

While I will absolutely grant that a two-sword "swordsman" in the European mode is completely senseless (and in fact, silly), it not only makes sense for a Japanese-type swordsman to wield two swords (not powerhammers, axes, or anything else) but would in fact be considered the natural order of things.

Besides, how can we justify having a katana in the game and NOT consider this to be Japanese? Of all the items in this game, I can think almost nothing else that is so strongly connected to one culture, short of the lightsaber. Just as it would be profoundly wrong to have a lightsaber in this game without having a Jedi, it is also wrong to have a katana in the game without a Samurai, as the katana was specifically considered to be the very soul of the Samurai. Granted, wecover that in the most generic sense in the"Swordsman" profession, but to take only part of the class and to leave that behind, and then to say we do it because it somehow doesn't belong...

Well, I'd say that's just incorrect at best, and I cannot understand how anyone can justify not having it as part of the Swordsman profession.

One last thing - if they do implement dual-wielding at some point (and I would rather doubt they will) and somehow decided not to give it to the Swordsman profession, then please remove the two-handed curved sword. To have a katana available to Swordsmen and to have dual-wielding available to someone else, but not to us, would be rather insulting to those of us of Japanese descent, and would (in my opinion) smack of racism.

Sorry, just my thoughts on the subject.

Lots of good comments, but I must vote no on this one. It would require way too many tweaks to our profession, and it would upset the balance (imo). I really don't think it should be given to fencers either, although this would seem better to me than swordsmen. IF it is ever implemented, it would be better to make it a separate melee class altogether, where a person advancing in the class would get better skill mods, learning how to better defend, attack with more accuracy, etc. Since the devs seem to enjoy having tka be the uber-melee class, maybe we should make a whole other brawler class that is just 4 different teras kasi lines (representing different unarmed combat styles), allowing our current brawler class to lose tk and instead have a duel-wielding line along with fencers, heavy swordsmen, and pikemen. Other than something like that, I don't see how this would fit without upsetting the balance which is already jacked and being fixed slowly but surely. Just my thoughts. Also, I could be wrong, but I think the intent for our class was that we do more damage at a slower rate with more powerful (read heavy and slower) weapons, therefore our weapons require the use of 2 hands. Maybe the 2h curved sword looks like a katana, but they didn't call it a katana, and maybe that was for a reason. I see our class as requiring skill in using one weapon with 2 hands, not one weapon in each hand. My two cents.

I vote yes....

We use two hands to attack our opponents, fencers use one.So I say let us DW and give the fencers a shield or something to add to their defense in the other hand.

you guys really are failing to realize what profession you are. you are heavy swordsman, you use both your hands on one heavy sword to do major damage. just because you use 2 hands, does not entitle you to use 2 swords. fencers on the other hand supposedly use light weaponry in one hand so that they can free the other hand up to help them fight, by use of a shield, or more commonly, as history tells us, a smaller sword or dagger. heavy swordsman will never be able to use dual wield, its as simple as that. you can vote yes all you want, butin the end swordsman will never get dual wield. i would bet money on it.
