dots can do anyone in depending on who gets what in first.
However, in a "pure" duel with no poisons or disease or fire, a def-stacked tkm is right up there with master ls, master defender 4004 jedi. TK's may not do much damage thanks to pvp reductions and such, but they can keep the pain comming, unlike a swordsman, who doesn't get the benefit of such accuracy.
A regular TK is easy to takedown for a swordsman who is defense stacked, as a basic tkm will only have 20 dizzy defense and a low knockdown defense as well. Warcry and Intimidate are essential to any serious dueler, and will decide who gets to basically hit first. With a few two-hand hit 3's, the tkm will get dizzy, and a swordsman with master brawler can use lunge 2 to knockdown and then simply work on the mind from there.
A def stacked TKM in the right hands is extremely difficult to beat, as they have the largest arsenal of all the melee professions and can is effectively the all-around fighter with a fairly balanced mix of the other professions in damage, combat ability, and defense. A TKM def stacked has all the states at his or her disposal, and will use those to his or her advantage. A TK will make contact with hits most of the time, so even if a state doesn't stick, dmg will be dealt.
As a def-stacked TKM, against Jedi for example, I would use my arsenal of states to weaken my opponent, whether it be through the actual state, or the force pool drain from healing the state(s). A swordsman sacrifices adaptability for damage, and that is the key to a swordsman win or loss.
A swordsman without attachments for speed will not do enough damage as the time in between landed hits will give the opponent time to regenerate. But a swordsman also needs a hammer with a high minimum damage as melee mitigation on the opponent limits you to that. Without nice equipment, a swordsman with even a sold defensive template will generally lose to a TKM with def stacks.
A scythe can be used, but is very limited, as even with multiple accuracy bonuses, a swordsman wielding a scythe will have an extremely difficult time doing enough damage in between the misses, which are amazingly frequent against someone with great defensive stacks.

90% armor + intimidate = 20 damage or less per hit. They can't even damage you faster than you heal.

keep in mind-the tka states..any real tka pvper would state before anything. and for a swordsman , your not going to do much after that. i could just use tka and fight a stacker swordsman (like myself) and have it end up in a draw. it just all depends on the fighter. skills determine everything.
but... sadly... dots win... so get that 300 dmg mind fire pike out for a swing or 2 and you win. Sucks but then I didn't write the game.

its not always a good idea to use dot weapons unless you actually have that proffession for it..im a master brawler and i had a LVL ..not only does my accuracy suck, but the speed sucks as well. dont spend too much time trying to dot unless you can survive being vulnerable in a proffession you dont have defenses for.
i.e- me using a polearms weapon only being master brawler and not even novice pikes, so i dont have block to help me out. just my standard melee/ranged defense.
if you can take hits then by all means..dot away.

Very true, dots can get you killed in the end. I used to be a master pike and have a bit of fun with the dots in factional pvp. Now that I'm just 0040 pike, every time I've pulled those pike's out I've been killed because of the general lack of skill my character has with those weapons.
