I had 2 cleavers before I had my first scythe. I ended up buying one the first time I went to the nightspider cave cause of the few mobs that had 100% blast, and then I ended up leaving when I ran into the mobs that had 100% blast and kin, heh. But those are good with a nice power up and slice.

I usually just try to look for speed sliced Scythes. Usually, on Chili, I can find them in the 1.8 - 2.0 range, with 300+ Damage. The one I'm using now is a 2.2, 328 Max un PuP'd I belive... can't remember... :-/ but it's nice. If the mob is resistant to kinetic, I switch to my slow, gimpy powerhammer. It's a little over 550 damage, un PuPd, and 3.7 speed. (Acklay obviously), There's also a -Mind Cost + Speed PuP that you can use, that's very effective. I had a 1.7 speed 319 Max scythe (OMG that was a beast of a weapon!) that PuP'd with one of those babies got down in the 1.0 range. At master however, I belive you reach speed cap, with no tapes on a 1.6 speed weapon.
