Thread: When is a sword a hammer?
i actually think the hammer is the sweetest lookin weapon in the game.....and i wouldnt trade it for ANYTHING.
if they made a sword theyd make it with weak-azz kinetic or at best electric (which most things worth killing at higher evels and in PvP have a resistance to).
Ill stick with th emedium AP blast damage Hammer thank you very much
Yes the whole hammer thing is kind of stupid for us swordsmen(although i do like saying "Its hammer time" before i go into battle). I think the idea of a gun/sword is even more stupid. That would destroy everything the swordsmanis for me. I hate ranged and anything to do with it, i chose swordsman for the honor of not hiding behind a blaster while running, bloody cowards!!- Dont even get me started on CH! (funny that i got rifleman for holo *shudders*).
What i would like to see is something big...something mean...something that is suited for the title of "Master Heavy Swordsman". Derived from the medieval claymore/broadsword, thicker blade tho. Add some flashy buttons on the hilt or something to make it star warsy you know..and the weapon should have its own chance of knock down/stunor something because of its sheer brutality.Yes...than id behappy.
i look forward to seeing what comes. anyone else find it funny when a battlemaster is lying on the floor of the battlefield gettin the crap beatin out of him by some tka rodian? But thats another topic.
Long Live the SWORDSMAN! AAUGHAUGH!

I do not mid at all FTB, go ahead and throw it in there.
I would like to reiterate to people that tha Adumarian Blast Sword is NOT a gunblade. Especially not like that in FF8. Although I am "on the fence" so to speak as to whether that type would be acceptable for Star Wars, it is not what the blast sword is or represents.
I'm trying to think of a way to relate my vision/interpetation of what the blast sword is...I almost see it similar to(beleive it or not) the toy lightsabers out there. You know the Hasbro ones that make thesounds whenit makes contact? That same timing and "along the blade" or "from the tip" type of blast. Imagine whipping around your toy lightsaber(come on, you know you have one!)and everytime you hit it on soemthing when you hear that "blast" sound effect you see a quick blaster bolt fire out of the tip too. That's what I would equate it to.
It's not something that you would be able to just shoot with, or use at range. It's a contact only type of effect. It wouldn't be practical for in-game purposes, but the only way it would hit at range would be if your strikemissed and a stray bolt went out.
Something to think about anyway.

So what you're saying is that whenever the blade makes contact with something, a blast is fired out the top. That just sounds stupid to me. First of all that would only be good for lunging (stabbing) attacks- if the blast comes out the top.And unlesstheychange the animation for our combat moves,we have like 1-2 attacks wherethat actually happens...For all slashing attacks i really dont see how that makes sense...all you get is blaster shots firing out intothe surrounding area...mostly in the air....i mean u might hit abird or something. Then againmaybe im just not understanding what ur saying.
But you know what might be cool..sonic blastsupon contact. (we'd have to wear ear plugs) but that would be kindaneat.on the topic of sonic - perhaps somespecializedbattlecriesfor swordsmanto boost stats of surrounding players or penalize opposition forces (like the paladin chants in DAOC). Cuz as it is, i feel we are still at a disadvantage to other melee classes w/ their knock downs.
i donno just rambling on i guess...

How about a Massive Claymore, laddie?!! Ach! Instead of the wee hammer, the Swordsman gets certed for a big, nice, sword. Standing between 60-75 inches from pommel to point, doing 124-450 dmg @ 5.5 spd.
I could not agree more.

It wouldnt "shoot" anything. I don't want a ranged weapon either, that wasn't the point of the idea. The point was to have a device on the sword that detonated on impact.
Either way, it exists in EU, so wether you think its stupid or not, its part of StarWars. And if you really dont like it, dont use it
Also, why would we have to trade it for the hammer? Is it too hard to imagine having a Blast Sword AND a Hammer?
It really is JUST 2HAND weapon (yes, pike is 2hd as well, but that's considered "polearm"..)
That's why all the skills are actually "melee2hxxxxxxx" for them all, oppose to just brawler. Fencer is then "onehandxxxxxxx".
melee2hMindHit2 for teh win!!!1
Yes, it should be called "One-hand weapon speicalization" (and two-hand respectively), but it sounds better as "Master Heavy Swordsman".
Although, I still don't recall seeing a single melee weapon aside of a club used by Tusken raiders in any of the movies...

Lightsabers, in all the movies for one. In Ewoks and gungans utilized melee weapons. The royal guards of the empire used force pikes. In jabba's palace, most of the guards where carrying axes and pikes.
They couldn't call fencers swordmen(even if their titles call them that) because they had already given us the name.
