I found it!! The perfect name! Why didn't the Devs think of this sooner?

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=man-at-arms

(i swear the link isn't someBS crap)

Man-At-Arms. Aside from the mounted reference there, it says aheavily armed soldier. It would refer to those that use theheavy melee weapons such as axes, larger swords, and hammers.

Just a thought.

....and why are they called Fencers? They don't even get a Rapier?

Great post Ximma. It was well reasoned, backed up by historical reference ... wow. Its nice to know that there are some people on these boards other than me who possess an intellect superior to that of a hamster.

Yeah, that would be a good name for us. As far as why they are called fencers.... the word 'fencer' is a person who has studied how to 'fence'. The word 'fence' is derived from 'defense'. So several hundred years ago in france, fencing was taught to civilians as a basic self defence class to keep themselves from getting killed in the streets. As a combat role as a whole, fencing is very ineffective vs armored foes. Primarily it was just to be used vs other unarmored/ lightly armored foes. This holds true ingame with little AP weapons, and a stong defense tree.

"So I swoop upon the foe, and I will slay,
I will hew them into pieces, I will dash them into dust;
Like Baal in his strength, on their rearward, lo! I fell,
And I killed them, none escaped me, and I slew, and slew, and slew."

I see about the Fencer, just thought it would be neat if they gave them a Rapier. Relatively low damage but super-fast.

But... back to us.

Give me a Claymore or some sort of beastly sword -or- change my name!

I am not arguing that it makes sense that our main weapon cert is a hammer, but as long as we are bringing up Fencers, has it escaped notice that their Novice elite weapon cert is a Stun Baton? No point to get across. Just thought it would add some perspective.

How about a Massive Claymore, laddie?!! Ach! Instead of the wee hammer, the Swordsman gets certed for a big, nice, sword. Standing between 60-75 inches from pommel to point, doing 124-450 dmg @ 5.5 spd. And the ability to inflict massive wounds. And kill lots of Englishmen.

I swear I heard that last word as "Anglishmin", with the thick accent going on.

Anyway, someone mentioned the Scythe, is there one in game? I mean I know there is the cert for it...but I don't recall ever seeing someone with one, nor seeing one for sale anywhere.

Basically variety is key to keeping the game spicey.

Actually Patina...there could be a sword that does blast dmage, an Adumarian Blast Sword. For anyone who's read X-Wing: Starfighters of Adumar, you know what I'm talking about, for the others: it's basically a sword that shoots a blaster bolt from the hilt when it makes contact. Its' a weapon that the Adumarian society that Wedge and Tycho Celchu visited use for duels and whatnot. The society as a whole is very rennaissance like.

I think it would be perfect. The Adumarian govt. left the Old Republic just after palpatine took over, so it is possible to have them in this time era...although a stretch (no worse then all the Zabraks and nonslave Wookies). It could be an elite cert. with a slower speed than the katana style 2-handed, but faster then the hammer. Damage-wise I'm not so sure, but I would think something with a higher minimum then the other 2 would make it stand out a bit.

It would be cool too to see a little blaster bolt flash when you hit or just when you do a special with it. And it would have a more "star warsy" feel to it, then a fantasy style sword would.

The topic of a "Gunblade" type sword was brought up on the Round Table weapons thread.

I'm pleased to hear they already exist in the Starwars universe. The devs would have no excuse to not implement these..

If you don't mind, I think i'm going to quote your post in the Round Table weapons thread so it gets noticed by a dev.

A sword like in FF8. The main characters weapon is a sword with a revolver in the hilt that fires when you strike.

A Gunblade, and it has already been suggested at the weapons thread.

...I know, thats what I just said...

The significance of JediArashi's post however is that he gave an example of a "gunblade" that already exists within the Starwars universe - meaning theres little reason it can't be implemented.

The blast from the Adumari blastsword comes out of where the point would be on an ordinary sword, that's how the duelists (and Janson) drew light patterns in the air with the glow.

And I agree, that would be a perfect solution and wouldn't require much more than a model change - the stats could remain identical to the PowerHammer and could even flat-out replace the PH.
Because it's either that or stop calling it a "Sword" profession, since it has the PH, Vibro Axe, Two-Handed Axe and Heavy Axe as weapons for it, none of which makes a lot of sense at the moment.
