AE means "area effect". When something is AE it means that it effects all valid targets within a certain radius, as opposed to affecting only one opponent at a time.

DOT means "damage over time". Anything that is a DOT does a certain amount of damage in incremented time periods for a specific length of time, as opposed to hitting something and doing all the damage in one hit.
