Swordsman Archive
Thread: Holocron hunter...i know you hate us but please help me out.
Use bleeds. A good rifle mind shot, followed by a sword bleed shot (or two- mindhit1 and mindhit2 stack, as do mindshot1 and mindshot2), followed by spammed headhits, have gotten me out of way more situations than I had any business getting into.
Much as I detest using pets (in my opinion, that's not the true "warrior path," having something else do your fighting for you), I gotta admit they're extremely effective. If you're looking to grind the profession due to a holo, I'd highly suggest getting one. Heck, I'm even thinking of "selling out to the dark side" and doing it myself - after all, there's a lot of times I've looked at a situation and turned away, thinking "if only."
Another thing; Muon Gold is your friend. Spices, foods, and doc buffs all stack as well, and if you're soloing like me (God help you if you are, it's 10 times harder that way), they'll save your bacon.
Clone early, clone often, and insure everything.
Finally, make **edit** sure you have a good weapon. Check out the weaponsmith board for what constitutes the stats of a "good weapon" on your server, but don't think your weapon is good; know that it's good.
Oh, and I have a hard time believing that bazaar special is anything other than a tin-foil special, but I hope for the sake of the guy that posted it that it really is something good.
Don't recall from your original post if you're on Corbantis, but if you are, look me up. I've moved my shop (and haven't changed my sig yet- too lazy), but my leftovers are quite possibly the best swords on the entire server. My power hammers aren't - they're definitely second class, but my curved swords (1-h and 2-h) are definitely the best, and I believe my cleavers are the best as well. However, I'm selling them unsliced now - couldn't afford the 1k per slice cost anymore, as the sales thing is definitely an afterthought with me (more like, if I'm not using 'em, someone else might as well).
its the best decision i've ever made im now 0102 heavy swordsman 3200 ch and 0040 pistoleer. i never use pistoleer anymore, i dont need to the defenses are the only reason i have it. i can honestly say swg is fun again.
1 reason i think its fun because it isnt tainted by the whole population like pistoleer BH commando and all those ranged. Pikeman 2hswordman and fencer are less popular and if it stays like that everything is going to stay gold (sorry for the outsiders moral)
I spend most of my time on Dantooine. If you can always get doctor buffs and advanced ubese (67-72% kinetic resistance unsliced).
Since giving up master creature handler and master pistoleer to become a pure meleer (master brawler + master tka + master swordsman ), I've found the tips for quickly grinding through TKA to apply to the swordsman profession.
On Dantooine, pick hurton huntress missions. These pay about 7.5k each and will quickly pay for the doctor buffs. Each hurton huntress gives ~3k xp and spawn at a rate of 2 per. Per lair, an average of 5 hurton huntresses will spawn. You'll also recieve another 3k xp for destroying the lair. That equates to approximately 18k xp.

many thanks on that one lol
anyone else have any ideas like this....im not sure what creatures give waht xp...
Ruh I use a curved sword 1.8 242, PH 5.6 680. , Cleaver 3.0 340
Dantooine Picket Protectors = 5k xp per kill = 6 mobs per layer + layer
Per mission set I earn about 80-90k xp if I kill mobs on the way too and from missions. Makes around 30k credits per set also.
one thing i'm confused about is how is anyone soloing anything major in this game? i am a wookie and its just not possible even with buffs.
Unfortunately armor for wookies is not yet available. Most players can get advanced ubese which gives you 67%-72% kinetic resistance and that is for unsliced armor.
Another factor is that many melee players also become a master brawler. WarCry2 is a cone effect special that prevents those target from attacking you for 20 seconds. You also get Intimidate2 which halves the damage done by enemies by half.
This is why I can take on 3 pikets at a time with the help of buffs or - ifbuffs are not available - then food, drinks, and spices.
Whenever a ranged class changes over to brawler, they always seem to have alot more fun. Ever since Holo's came out we've been getting posts from Holo Swordsmen exactly like this.
Because ranged fighting consists of
1. Kneel or go prone
2. Send in your pet (let's face it, until patches change things this is still pet wars)
3. Hit a few function keys to fire off a few specials until the mob is dead
4. If the mob comes after you get up run away spamming "/yell attack" the whole time
5. Rinse and repeat for 3.6 million weapon xp.
Melee combat actually requires you to DO something. You have to be actively involved in the fight, you can watch your character fight, you get cool animations and you can actually take more than 1 hit before something kills you. Also let's face it. It's the only way to get away from using a pet. We don't use pets because we want too, we use pets because we have too. I don't need a pet for my melee character nor do I want one. I used to use my pet to tank for me. Now I just use it to group with me at the mission terminal to get higher level missions then he's back in the datapad.
Oh yeah melee is MUCH more fun. I have no desire to go back to ranged combat now.
