Thread: Creature Mounts and Swordsmen
I agree, we should definitely have an advantage over ranged characters while mounted. It seems to me that's just the way it works anyway, according to history. Against something like an AT-ST, or another time of armored machine or "tank-like" vehicle....that's another story. I'm not quite sure what to think about that. But, as far as NPC combat, as well as PvP, I would think that all melee characters (with the exception of TKA; I'm not sure what they would do), have a significant advantage.
Thanks.

Just to follow up, I am in full agreement:
Cavalry, History. . .Yeah!
How stupid do the devs think we are that we are going to take that one lying down!!! I think this probably has something to do with them not wanting to create new mounted animations for all the melee classes. Honestly, we probably have 10x's the animation that the marksman do. How hard is it to point a gun and shoot? Anyway, regardless of this technical snag it still doesn't make any logical sense when you consider melee weapons and their historical use (and significance) on mounts. . .
Gorecki, Vass, Holo, and Q all need to read this string. . . this I think rises to the point of our most important issueand needs to be addressed as quickly as possible before we get railroaded on this issue.
Just another quick thought here. . .
In movies and tv whether we are talking cars or horses, don't the bad guys always miss when chasing the hero firing bullets at them. I give you two great examples. . . The Lone Ranger and The Terminator. First off, the Lone Ranger. Everytime him and Tonto had to make a break for it the whole gang of thugs would always try and ride them down firing every bullet in every revolver they carried. When they ran out of bullets they would throw their guns at the legs of Silver and Scout (Lone Ranger and Tonto's horses, by the way Bill Cosby does a great skit on this) but they would never land a shot on either of them - at that point, the Lone Ranger would usually jump off of his horse onto the bad guys horse and beat the snot out of him illustrating my point perfectly that melee wins on horseback . . . but wait, I'm throwing this one in for nothing extra. . .
In the original movie The Terminator, Kyle Reese and Sara Connor are running from the Terminator in their truck. . . they unload everything with bullets on him and don't even hit once. Then they go to the pipe bombs and I think one gets a piece of him. Oh! You say, Kyle gets shot in this scene. . . yeah, its a shoulder wound with a shotgun - an easier shot than most, but this is Ahhnold, the Terminator, the computer, with a better than human chance of hitting him and it is still only a shoulder wound!
Want one more, okay! I just thought of it. . . in Indiana Jones and the last crusade, Indy is riding on that cycle with the sidecar. The Nazis are coming at him on their bikes armed to the teeth, firing with uzi's and the like yet our hero comes away, unscathed. . . more so, He out does the Nazis with a polearm (jousting one and then forcing whats left of his pike threw the wheel of a second).
I could probably go on all night, bottom line - this should finally be the great equalizer. This should finally be the first time that we, the melee classes, actually have an advantage over the gun toting idiots. Instead (once again, I think because it may be to difficult to animate) we are being NERFed again and this time, without any argument that can be given, wrongfully.
So, to the Devs and SOE, history is on our side here - Melee wins from a mount. You got this one completely backwards!!!
...it's always interesting toread/share thoughts and ideas....maybe dreams...about the implementation of certain things....
...but i also have to say that this post reminds me a little bitof the Jedi Forum:
Alot of speculation and even flaming about things we have almost no info about and don't know what they will be like.
Italways amazes me to see that one of the forums on here with the most posts is based on pure speculation.
Not flaming anyone here...justmy 2c
yet i don't think pistol should have penalty at close range, after 15m then yesi agree they should hit way off like carbiniers and rifleman. i'm nota pistolero btw, just working on brawlersword IV...
as f
i was saying....
as for tka i think they should be able to fight like us, with their feets. some sort of an eyehit like for the well knowned BH pistol eyeshot
I'll admit I have no idea how a TKA could fight FROM a mount effectively. However, if they had a move that let them kick a rider off a mount... that would be pretty slick. ![]()
Polearms should rock on either side of mounts. And fencers could ride around lopping off heads. Maybe 2H swordsmen could just chop the legs off the mounts. ![]()
how about allowing tka's to basically take over their mount using it as if it were their own body. Obviousely more thought needs to go into this, but just an idea.
There is no reason that other melees shouldn't be able to attack while mounted.
Why are you talking about TKA? This is the 2 handed sword forum. And by the way, we are going to get screwed too, just wait. Don't think for a second that you will be using a 2 handed sword from horseback. That will be fore the polearm guys and the 1 handed fencers only.
This isn't a game, it's a nerf.
