Thread: Creature Mounts and Swordsmen
I just read the interview with Raph Koster who says that once Creature Handler's Mounts are in effect, most professions will be able to attack while riding. However, he said melee users are screwed.
This really irked me, as my primary professions are TK and CH. I have made the following proposal to allow for the 4 melee classes to be able to attack from the back of a mount.
Teras Kasi: Earning Expert Precision Striking unlocks the certification for the Magnetic Grappling Hook. As seen in use by Boba Fett, the MGH can be used while on the back of a mount. The damage is minimal (5-10 damage), with the effect of bringing the opponent to the brawler for a chance at a hit, and allows for a40% chance of Stunning opponent.
One Handed: Earning Expert Fencing Finesse unlocks the certification for the Vibro Whip. The Vibro Whip can be used while on the back of a mount. The damage is mediocre (55-145) and allows for a 40% chance of Blinding the opponent.
Two Handed: Earning Expert Sword Finesse unlocks the certification for the Vibro Grapplink Hook. The Vibro Grapplink Hook has a large device at the end with various poison tipped prongs. The damage is above average (75-155) and allows for a 40% chance of Poisoning the opponent.
Polearm: Earning Expert Polearm Support Abilities unlocks the certification for the Vibro Halberd. The Vibro Halberd has incredible reach, extending as needed from an adjustable base near the grip. The damage is above average (95-135) and allows for a 40% chance of Dizzying the opponent.

i am pissed that you say that melee got scrued... do you mean that we cant attack or just suck at it?
but if you remember the days of old, people would attack on horse back with swords.... but shooting on horse back is much harder... now if the devs dont understand that they are just dumb... i have riden horses and i cant imagen shooting while on one
Someone needs to go to Sony on the back of a huge steed and beat them on the head.
Alright...
Let's see this... on how... how absurdly stupid RK can be...
Cavalry in the 18th and 19th Centuryand World War I : Used sabers, NOT guns, to fight and rush against Musketeers, usually decapitating their heads or thrusting into their bodies.
The Dragoons (basically Horseback Gunner) in the 18th and 19th centurySTOOD STILL while firing (usually). If they did move and fire, the accuracy was completely off. Archer-horsemen, however, could move and fire.
Almost all CavalryHorsebackin the history oftheWorldused blunt or sharp melee weapons. Some used a bow. Very few used guns.
Oh and don't forget Knights and such.
Status on future circumstances with mounts :
All weapon-wielding melees : Can use mounts effectively. Polearm has an even more bonus while using Mounts and against especially against other mounts.
TKA : Sorry, arms not long enough, unless you really wanna use your legs...
Rifleman: Accuracy severely hampered. Only way to fire good is by standing still.
Carbineer : Accuracy still hampered, but can fire while running.
Pistol : Short range. Anything beyond X amount of meters, and your accuracy is fubared like the rifleman.
Thank you Lakevren, I was getting ready to post similarly. In the real world, a melee weapon has the advantage on horseback, which is proven by how they were used in real wars. I don't want the real world in the game, but come one, what would be the basis for making melee weaker on mounts. TKA's, well, I don't know - give em a leap move to knock the opponent down maybe? As for against tanks, well, I agree, accept that the Gungans had animals and were able to negate the advantage of the huge tanks they were up against. They weren't winning the fight, but tanks against mounts sure wasn't the problem.

UGO: Will players have direct control over vehicles and mounts or will it be rail-based travel (as in Dark Age of Camelot)?
RK: No, you'll have direct control. And there will be combat on the mounts. It'd be hard to do Teras Kasi [the unarmed combat profession of Galaxies]. Yeah, we're not doing DAOC style mounts. More like UO [Ultima Online] style mounts.
Goraki pls put this question into the next mail.
Tnx ![]()
But if Devs talking about an Uo-Style i'm pretty sure that we can hit from a mounted creature ... but is surely better ask ...
Since I'm new to \MMORPGs could someone explain how mounts worked / used in UO.
Thanks
It was basically like a vehicle you could ride anywhere. You could cast/fight from horseback, and chase anyone down who was running on foot.
On that note, I think TKA shouldn't be able to do anything at all on horseback. Seriously, who fights hand-to-hand on horseback. Fencing maybe, Swordsman yes, Polearm definitely.
