Thread: Proof that TKA>Swordsman/Fencer/Pikemen
Dont judge TKA for trying to kepp their profesion the way it is or improve it. Of course they are going to be on the defense because they are afraid of a nerf.
I for one am a TKA, and have supported the improvement of all the melee clases. Ive posterd plenty of times on the pikeman boards supporting them and will also support swordsmen and fencers. Sorry if I hadent done it before to the swordsmen in this boards.
Personally I think the devs need to get the facts on tka straight (history) so that TKA cant use the kill jedi excuse. If we are meant to kill jedi then we should definetly work on more skills or be an elite profesion.
I agreew/ya,all meleehave have the same skill numbers for master and some seem (at the moment)better than others. I think that if the skill points are the same they (profesions)should be more balanced. The rest come to the combination with other profesions.
Just 2 creds on the subject.

There doesn't need to be any proof beyond the hugedisparity betweennumber of players in each of theclasses. The devs have repeatedly stated that players follow the path of least resistance - very true, this is yet another example.
Swordsmen get - mind damage and AP weapons.
TKMs get - attacking any of the HAM pools, KD, the disgusting KD/dizzy combo, more damage, better defense, meditate, blind, stun, etc.
The argument that TKM should be better because they hunted Jedi is some obscure EU material is ridiculous - I'd guess that 98% of TKAs had never heard of Teras Kasi before SWG they are just grabbing on to the background story as an attempt to justify their obviously superiority. Skill points and experience required between combat classes must be balanced, period. If the differences between TKMs and the 3 dwarves is going to be made even wider by the changes currently on test just save everyone the hassle and make TK the only melee class in the game. Or combine the 3 dwarves into one elite melee weapons class... now that would be cool, sort of like commando and BH with 3 weapons lines and a combat line.
Players want to play classes that are fun and fit their play style, right now in the melee world TKMs kick ass and get lots of toys (skills). Using one combat class to get another is incredibly easy, as a master swordsman I could get TKM in a week, please don't push everyone in that direction.
all four combat classes do need to be evened out, and i know you posted the difference in the four and what skills they get at what level, list the skills all three get when they spend 120k of combat xp.

I totally agree with Gnosis.
Especially on the meaning of a TKA. People are asuming this whole Jedi killing story. Hell any of the clases could be Jedi killers. For example MAndalores were mercenaries with skills similar to comando and killed jedi, Fett SR (was a mandalore before BH) and FETT JR both killed JEDI and were BH, and this are just two examples.
Any class should be able to kill a Jedi, is just that they would do it differently (not saying that killinga JEdi should be easy). The key comes from combination of skills and perhaps teaming up.
People keep saying that TKA in the EU did this and that. The truth is that I havent read a book yet or comic in which TKA are mentioned as jedi killers. The only EU books Ive read that mention TKA also have this as being Jedi or Sith. They use TKA to compliment their jedi skills.
The story that keeps being posted over and over is a role playing story (from games such as D&D, I know cause my brother plays this games). That story was just made by a talented roleplayer that wanted to give his character a background. I dont think devs had even seen that story before making the game, even more so George Lucas the Star Wars god could probably care less for such a story. Except for darth maul what other character have you seen that practiced TKA in the movies. None!
Have any of you seen the Star Wars Encyclopedia? Does it mention TKA? Not sure just asking. My guess is no. Go to the Star wars Site and type TKA nothing happens. No info!
People will talk about the game Masters of Teras kasi. that was just a name like mortal combat isa name. It was a catchy slogan. In fact all the EU books that mention TKA (as far as I know) come after this game.
What I am trying to get at is that TKA should not expect to be the best based on some story that no one really knows where it came from. The truth is that all melee spend the same amount of skill points and should be more balanced. Not saying that all should be entierly equal (imop it wouldnt be fun if all were equally powerfull). This is where combining skills comes in handy.
Once again, any class could be a jedi killer or assasin. I could be an image designer and decide to take an assignment to kill jedi. I might not succed but I could still be an aspiring jedi assasin. But what if I succed, waht story will i make up to say that image designers are jedi killers?
Last but not least this is not a flame on TKA, in fact I am a TKA. Like all of you I would llike some info as to the origins of TKA. Hopefully devs or EU will give us some insight into this. Im just trying to bring support to all classes, not just melee. Once all classes are fixed this game will be much better for all. Sad thing is that there will always be someone crying, but for those that really care about the game will realize when changes are being made and accept them.
2 creds, mayby 4 of personal opinion.
Cacco Okabido - TKA 0/0/0/0/ brw 4/3/0/1, scout 4/3/4/3, medic 1/1/1/0 entertainer 0/0/0/1,marksman 0/0/03 (never used just helping someone get AP).

Overpowered compared to the other melee professions yes, but overpowered in general no. I dont think they are overpowered at all compared to the other combat professions in the game, i just wish they would give the other brawlers the utility and versitality the TKA profession has.
Some professions are just supposed to be specialists, it's our lot in life (I say this as a Pistoleer). TKA is like the Brawler Bounty Hunter (though it's not an elite profession.)
Asking for more varying abilities in all the other classes (F/2HS/P + P/C/R) will just water stuff down and classes will loose their niche. If you like the options a TKA has then go TKA.

....not to mention our ham costs are higher, less range, all of the stuff we get is essential to our survival, instead of trying to get TK nerfed you should try to get your class fixed, if you didnt have the 7 postures and instead had a delay/knockdown you would be fine, if fencer got alot more accuracy and toughness and a knockdown they would be fine, and pikemen need about +60 more accuracy and they will be fine. it really isn't as bad as you think.
I don't think anyone on this thread is advocating the nerfing of TK at all. We just want to get the other Melee classes up to the level that TK is at currently.
We just want to balance things out- at this point, it looks like helping the other melee classes acheive the level of support TKA has had.
Na
Why was it just a matter of time before a TKM came here to try to downplay the TK supperiority? Everyone loves to toss around their "facts" of classXwhichisnottheirprimaryclass hitting for 10 trillion damage therefor blah blah blah.
Heres a real fact: there are more TKA than the three other brawler classes COMBINED. http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Character%20Metrics
This isn't because of roleplaying, or backstory, or because players think vibro-knucklers are cooler than swords or pikes. Its because atm the TKM is dramatically more powerful and interesting than the other 3 melee classes. Its futile to try to disagree with the raw numbers, players have taken the path of least resistence and have found in large numbers that the TKA is the superior melee class.
But hey, my favorite part of SWG is the ease of changing professions, its fantastic. Because of this I have recently changed my tune on SCS and now enjoy it, but only because of how fluid your character can be. Your class does not define your character in this game, who you are defines your character, its quite a breakthrough. This isnt EQ where you need to defend your class to the death because you built you character up over 3 years. I'd prefer to stay a swordsman simply because for whatever intagable reasonI find it appealing, but playing a melee character in a game with laser weapons is tough enough, if the changes on Test go through and the TKM is further buffed while the 3 dwarves are again ignored I'll change classes. I'd just rather it didn't come to that.
One last thing: its laughable to say that there is a wide variety of swords or pikes. Im one of the top weaponsmiths on my server, I sell an absolute ton of weapons, I know what weapons players find useful. You cant just crunch damage and speed numbers, there are too many othervariables, in the end players use trial and error to determine which weapons are the most effective and they buy them. There are two 1hnd swords that sell (rykk blade and stun baton) and two 2hnd swords that sell (2hnd curved and power hammer) and pikes never sell (although i keep a few long vibro axes listed out of pity for the class.) And once again for the record - I sell four times as many VKs as rykks, batons, 2hnd curved and power hammers COMBINED... wonder why?
