I'm generally not one to complain but honestly my opinion of SOE/Lucas Arts is pretty low at this point.
I work in software development and I am typicaly forgiving of bugs because i know how hard they can be to track down, but this game was released over a year ago and (besides the ridiculous amount of bugs) they're still trying to figure out a working combat system, a working jedi system...how many aspects of the game are they "working on"?. They ignored their beta testers that told them it wasnt ready for release. They still have game crippling bugs ( why were all the vendors on bloodfin jacked for 4 days?) I lost about 8 million credits worth of items with that bug by the way. Oh, and the CSR says that he's checked the logs and can confirm missing items but unfortunatley he cant return them. Awesome.
On top of all this they're making expansions and they're calling their patches "upgrades".
I quit playing last january and just picked it back up a couple weeks ago. You know they were talking the "combat upgrade" way back then? I had figured something would have happened over the last 10 months.
Basic design concepts(combat engine...) should be completed before any sort of beta testing, or even alpha testing for that matter. In real software design you have the basic plans laid out before you even start coding. In real software design bugs are few and far between, found in typically unused parts of the program.
Over all, they have a very poor development system. I dont know of any other software with this many bugs that is accepted in the business world as working software(besides windows).
If this game were not online based it would still be in development. Aside from wasting millions of dollars printing and shipping boxed software, you would be laughed out of the software industry for trying to release a standalone program that doesnt work.
Their design proscess is a joke.
A complete joke.

Hell, I very, very happy with the way combat is now. I really don't want to see any changes in armor or weapons, or MOBs. Just fix the loot SEAs and other stuff that is broken.

Currently we are bound to the NDA, which sucks for both sides. For us it sucks because we are not allowed to share any details ( ...and my thoughts go out to poor Gabe here, who's been sitting on this stuff ever since the summit and wasn't able to share), for you it sucks because you know that there are news out there everyone's been waiting for for months and you can't access it yet while a handful ofothers can( a reason why i felt reluctant writing all this in first place because i know how short of patience many of us are at this point of time and i don't feel like picking in open wounds). That's unfortunately how things are when it comes to alpha/beta testing, which is why i would like to encourage you again to sign up for the beta.
I feel obliged though to share with you the very little i can share: myoptimism about all this.
And through my comment i made earlier in this thread i simply wanted to add myself to the list of all the correspondents who came back from the summit with the sameoptimism and i would even say excitement( Clicky ), to give those of youwhoDON'T share the belief of some people out there that we are some sort of puppets to SOEa heads up and tell you to hang in there as you might be in for a pleasant surprise.
To finish this i would like to add that i've been discussing this with Gabe and we both agreed that our optimism and excitement isn't onlybased onthe content and details of the CU but also on the fact that we feel somewhat rewarded for what we've been trying to do herein the past year: to bring YOUR issues to the Devs and make them listen.

but i am sure you can tell them that, this upgrade is going to change the game in a poportion in which they cant even begin to imagine. when i saw what was planned my expectation and imagination wasnt even half of what they had planned out. so by all right you guys should be very excited if only you know what we know you would be as optimistic as we are

It looks great.
It'll change how you play SWG (definetly)
Professional roles are redefined, for the better.
Ok, enough of the vague stuff
To say the very least.
But let's all remember that we're bound by NDA's. Unfortunately we're going to have keep most of the excitement to ourselves for a while yet.
Gabe.

But we're allowed to say really really really really really really vague about it, right?
