Is anyone or have you tried master swords/master doc with FS speed/accuracy and ranged/melee defense. Just wondering how this stands up.

on TC-Epi3, you can't pick up FS skills AFAIK.








Figured as much, I was hopeing someone from one of the conversion servers had some insight.

yep tried it on test center bria Swordsman/Doc. with forceranged def. and some melee def. doesnt even come close to working your buffs suck your heals suck and your def. suck as i posted in orther areas i tried taking on lvl 60 banthas 2 and 3 at a time and was almost beaten i was buffed and drank brandy ( and was lvl 80 ) . the heals that you can do suck and you have to use them in a varity ( caint use your best one over and over ) the timers are to long . also my stims which i can use because of what they turned into combat lvl 60 stims no need for a healing ablity because my combat lvl was 80 , they healed as much as my best doc heal while i was still speced that way . the only reason to be a doc as i can see it now is so you can do every thing with out the use of meds . kinda like a cleric in fantasy games .. but as far as addding to a combat profsion there is no way i would do it and i will respec out of it as soon as the combat down grade goes live. but please go try your self on test center bria on the regular test center the frog are giveing 50% buffs so that might be a bug or be just so peps can test . on tc bria buffs are the standard 10% that they said the would be . on the postive side i could spam attacks over and over with out the lost of end bar because of buffs , but i tried it again while not specd as a doc and could almost do the same as far as number of attacks .

Ive bee nreadign through the proffession fourms, and ive gota say, ON ONE LIKES THIS UPGRADE, but heres were alot of people are going to be mad, We cannot change back to the old way now. the eveidence is everywhere. RoW is coming out soon and id bet everytthing that that expansion is based on the new "EQ2" combat system, and unless some blows up all the shipping games, were not going to see the old game back that we have all learned to love, Did you notice that they said about 5-9(not sure) weeks prior release "we have decided to relase the expansion and the CU as a pair" or soming along those lines. Which means that they left no contingency plan just in-case this Cu went down like a burning plane. They can patch the game all they want, but it will never be the same if RoW is extreamly popular, i mean why wouldnt it be. New planet, new quest, new speeder(:
The Cu and RoW will support eachother and that means there will be no way to change this back.

So basicly a "master" in any of the melee professions is now a joke. Masters should be able to protect themselves and do alot more, otherwise why are they masters. If you have to be a master in more than one fighting profession, or have to have a force-sensitive "help-out" in order to even play on par, why bother?

So "master designations" are now a joke, since you can't even make a good showing of them anymore. Also now you jump on and have to find a group to hang out with in order to do anything. Hope you have the extra time, you casual players this is supposedly aimed at. But wait. Most of the areas I run into are over-run with people anyways. And its hard enough to get "drops" and kills then. Not to mention, waiting for groups to form when you have limited time, and then finally get out there fight like crazy for 45 minutes just to get nothing. Then poof, you're time is up, you need to hit the sack for the next day. I've also found many group-leaders to be robbers of loots as it is, now you have to go with them or not play. Beautiful! Oh, and BTW if a nest shows up by your house, you'd best get your "joke-master" posterior on the horn and beg for help, otherwise, you risk dieing a few times just protecting your home. Good-Grief! What an idiot set-up.

I noticed Test Center notes on the loading screen specifically asking people to only engage creatures between 1-50, I'm sure anything above that isn't balanced out - in fact it wouldn't suprise me if they have been left very high damage to get people to leave them alone.

I'm no SOE fan by any means and I really am losing faith in having confidence that the Devs are going to pull this one off, but...

Stop reacting so passionately to the system when the numbers are far off being fully balanced, it seems pretty obvious that they are working up the levels slowly and the fact that they ask you not to engage creatures above level 50 should make you stop and think 'hey maybe there's a good reason for this request'

The people whining on these forums are not the ones that will make this game work, it's the ones constantly and patiently testing on TC in line with what has been requested of them and giving the feedback in a structured way so the team can methodically work through it.

If you want to participate in TEST Center then you have to accept that there is a discipline and level headed approach that you need to have when testing UNFINISHED SOFTWARE

But see, that is the thing. It will be released as unfinished software. Just look at Blair's Blog:


"Finally, it is worth repeating that even when Combat Upgrade goes "live" it is not finished - we will continue to refine and polish the experience for some months to come."


That is a TERRIBLE thing to say on their part.... As if we didnt have enough discontent and apprehension already... I guess I'll give them kudos for being honest, but I think they are more just trying to cover their @$$es.... It will not be finished, and even though it will be live, they will still be working on it for some months to come??? Now THAT is bad.

Joel, I would agree with you wholeheartedly that people need to stop whining and let the testing go on, IF it was being released in, say, a couple of months, but The fact of the matter is thatall these problems and negativity towards this ishappening approx 2 weeks before the slated release and that is proof that it will not be ready. True they may eventually fix it, but come on, for something as game breaking, err making (yea right), as this, the conversion should be SEAMLESS. I am sure that if the freaking marketing didnt push this out with RotW (and incidentally Ep3), it could be MUCH better (but i am not saying it would be good, keep that in mind).


If they released this after those couple of months, then perhaps a LOT more people might be willing to give it a chance, but the fact of the matter is they went overboard in their changes,the large majority hates these changes, and are completely rushing these changes to make a release date in which I have no doubt is impossible for them to hit w/ a perfect patch (as it should be). Almost all will agree that there needed to be some small changes and tweaks (I for one thought it was fine, but that is just me and i do concede thatothers have valid points), but I don't think anyone would agree that the combat system needed to be changedthis drastically.

what about us swordsman who never got a template? im a cwords/ch... i dont have any fencer or tk or anything else... does this mean im screwed?

You are somewhat forced to pick up another brawler :/profession (if you want to have any speed whatsoever)

I hadn't heard the statement about relasing the unfinished software (cries in his beer) but I guess I should have known better than to think they would even get this right.

Seems once again Sony's money hungry marketing team is going to slaughter this change by pushing it out to coincide with Episode 3 and RotW with dollar signs in their eyes.

Where is our swordsman corr. on this subject I wonder?

I think its funny that they want to move the combat system to a simpler 'proven' system similar to eq2 and WoW. 'Proven'??? There going to need months to refine it!!! How is this 'proven'? Why not just go play eq2 or WoW, you won't have to wait months for them to refine the combat system!


I think its a shame that the devs are completely ignoring the people that pay month in and month out to play this game. They obviously don't care what we think or they wouldn't change the game so dramaticly! Its all about MONEY to them. Even if this new system makes 90% of the people playing it quit they still won't do anything, as long as new people keep starting the game. This CU might not be the immediate end of the game but I don't think it will ever be as popular again. Before the game was unique and people loved it, they put up with the bugs and problems because the game was so good. Now its going to be a copy and pasted version of other games, not only that it will take months to refine the system after the release! What's the point??? We're just starting all over again in a Beta, but not the Beta of the original game that we all love but a copy of other games that if we wanted to play we would have switched to a long time ago!


If the new system is as bad as it looks and as bugged as even the devs are admitting it will be, I personally hope 90%+ of the people currently playing cancel there accounts and don't move to eq2 or WoW. It won't get our game back but at least it will prove a point.
