well thankyou all for the good advice!
I would love to say that I went home last night and tried out all the things you have given me to try .... but I er ... found myself at the pub playing pool, bit of a culture shock I know .. hehe
quick /warcry question though! I know it prevents your enemy from attacking you, but does it also prevent them from moving? That is, if I /warcry something can I then run like a coward without being chased for 10 seconds (or 20 with /warcry2 when I reach Master Brawler) ?

As Chur said, they can still chase you…unless you get MBrawler, lunge2, and follow it up with a warcry2. Can't chase if you can't get up.

now that sounds very cool - knock 'em down then run off while they lie on the floor hehe
hoping to get master brawler by the weekend, been working on that too (for the second time lol why did I ever give it up?), so lunge2 should be a possibility be then 
Chur, it was a strange experience, they had these things called "people" at the pub! I had no idea what I was doing ..........

As long as your first thought wasn't "/melee2hSpin2" I think you'll be okay.
