My .2 credits:

I started the game as a entertainer/musician and started adding various novice skills. I tried out all the novice skills for alittle way up each of the trees to get a feel for them.

I ended up going up Scout, marksman rifle, 2hsword and musician

The Rifle/Sword combo seemed to be pretty darn cool- hit from range then close with the sword.

While hunting with my PA, I tended to use sword more than rifle and we had a number of CHs present and I finally started to like the idea of sending in a pet, then joining the pet at close combat.

I've since shifted my rifle skills over to CH and am really enjoying it (although I AM having some problems when pets start chasing the creatures away). I really love being in the thick of the action in a group hunt or PVP fight.

I'll have to wait and see what the next patch does (or takes away) from CH, but I plan on keeping Swordsman even after I master it (only 6 blocks to go!)

I'm going the Master Swordsman (3-3-1-2) and Master Creature Handler (2-2-1-2) route with a very healthy dose of medic thrown in.

I had gotten almost all the way to rifle 4 using the "I shoot them at a distance to draw them close to my sword" routine. It worked well. However a pet works even better.

(Aside: to whomever had the problem of pets running off causing the creatures to chase them- /tellpet (follow command) or just yell it. They come back-drawing the creature with them. Then attack, have your pet attack, harvest the resources. Seems to work well)

Sorry, back to topic: I gave up all my marksman skills because I found I was doing so much damage with the sword using mindbleeds and head hits that the rifle was no longer needed.

For what it's worth....

I'm master rifleman and 3-4-4-3 swords and I love playing them both. I hunt with several tka's and they do serious damage. Got to admit that the meditation line strikes me as one of the coolest in the game. Nonetheless you'd have to pry my sword from my cold, dead hand.

We are elite not L33t so if you want to cheese your way like the rest of the dewdz then TKA would be for you. If you would like to be one of the honorable headhunters then I welcome you to the fold.
