I too think that the top weapon should be a sword of some kind -- if that means swapping the curved sword and power hammer certs, weakening the power hammer some if it can get better and strengthening the curved sword if it can get better...

I just dont feel my best weapon as a swordsman should be a big huge hammer

I'm hoping soon Kane will be able to make some good power hammers, I would at least like to try one out.

I talked to some weaponsmiths on Starsider. Common consensus was that the power hammer is not getting any better, at least not yet -- with HIGH quality materials they were turning out much crappier than a 2h curved sword.

And of course we had a total resource shift that screwed us material wise *mourns the loss of Rakeris Aluminum*, so now our curved swords cant even be made as good as they once were :/

Power hammer stats:

93-223 damage, 6.1 delay, 107/28/16 ham, 19.26 wound chance.

unsliced atm.

Here's the problem with the Power Hammer:

The schematic is too simple.

It requires exactly three different resources if what's posted on swgcraft.com is correct. I can't verify it myself because I'm not yet a Master Weaponsmith.

The main resource used is Kammris Iron. In fact, the Hammer requires more of this type of iron than the other two components ("metal" and copper) combined.

Basically, weaponsmiths are at the mercy of the stats of this Kammris Iron when it comes to making the power hammer. If the shock resistance on it is bad, then the resulting weapon is going to be bad too.

The lack of a sword core slot means that the advanced sword core, which is what gives the 2h sword and 2h cleaver their high damage values, can't be used.

Hiya BinaryT,

good to know there are some weaponsmiths among us.

So are you a weaponsmith only or did you combine it with our profession ?

I really hope that we will get a positive answer from the Devs regarding our request to introduce more swords, bottom and top range, which would as far as i understand also make your profession more interesting.

Thanks for the input

While I am primarily a melee weaponsmith, I have been dabbling in the Brawler class recently... because the best weaponsmith is one who actually has experience with his own creations.

I see the PH as more or a niche weapon, against certain mobs and in PVP it will be very strong, but the 2h curved will be our bread and butter, unless scythes are insanely good and become findable

Hello Swordsmen,

I am a master weaponsmith. I can make a 230 damage power hammer that is around 5.9 speed. This is using some insanely good materials. I think What you are missing on the hammer, and this is due to a poor choice on the devs part, is that I believe the power hammer is the only swordsman weapon with an AR of 2. The Vibro axe might have an ar of 1.. not entirely sure about that. But I do know that the hammer has a very nice AR. Againstly no armor to light it will get nice damage bonuses and against medium armored mobs and vehicles it will get no penalties. Please note that the damage range and speed on a weapon do not properly reflect the power of a weapon. Also the hammer does blast damage instead of kenetic damage.

Thank you for your time,

Power hammer has an armor piercing value of medium, so keep that in mind also when considering its damage. You will penetrate all armor with a 25% damage bonus.

Actually it hasan AR rating of 2, that means it does 156% damage to AR0 enemies, and 125% vs AR1. Meanwhile a Curved Sword does 50% damage to someone in AR1 armor (unless it's AR value is 1, but I think it's 0). Therefore the PH is actually pretty **edit** good.

I'm a Master Weaponsmith, I specialize in Melee Weapons. Coincidentally, I'm also a wanna-be Swordsman (just gotta get up there...if only they'd let me out of my crafting room)

The Power Hammer has an Armor Piercing rating of 2, and deals Blast Damage. In PvP, it is Death on a stick. Versus mobs, it loses a lot of its advantage, mainly due to a mob's high HAM, compared to that of a player. While PH = One-Shot-Kills in PvP, its slower speed makes it less valuable in PvM, as all PvM fights are grueling fights of attrition where one miss can mean death, especially with a slow weapon like the PH.

That being said, I agree with one of the other posters on this thread. The PH is definitely a niche weapon. It's not advisable to rely on the PH as your sole weapon. The Two Handed Curved Sword is a VERY good weapon, and deals a very fair amount of damage. However, it has an AR of 0.

I use DPS to compare weapons...I can't remember stats, and in any case, stats really don't mean anything anyway, so why bother.

My current 2HCS are 45 DPS. Power Hammers are roughly 30 DPS (probably more...I need to go back and check again). VS AR 0, the 2HCS is 45 DPS, the Power Hammer is 46.8 DPS. VS AR 1, the 2HCS is 27.5 DPS, the Power Hammer is 37.5 DPS. VS AR 2, the 2HCS is 14 DPS, the PH is 30 DPS.

Basically, versus things with no armor, which is common, the 2HCS will win out, since it has lower HAM costs. Against things with armor, the PH is the way to go.

Personally, I love the Vibro Axe. Right mix of DPS and AR for me. 30+ DPS, even more if it's sliced, and AR of 1. The Vibro Axe will be an insane weapon once they fix the Advanced Blade Vibro Units.

On paper, the Power Hammer doesn't look bad. However, since most melee do not wear armor, we are better off with a nice 2H Curved Sword right now.

As far as possible new weapon options go, I'd love to see a fast 2h-double bladed sword anda big huge broadsword.

I agree about using the PH as a niche weapon. If the mob is in AR2 or maybe even AR1, use the PH. Otherwise the Curved Sword wins out.
