I think, honestly, that most of the hardcore pvp oriented people left swordsman after the bleed nerf(and warcry nerf too maybe). Bleeds were one of the biggest equalizers for HS, and when they got destroyed, i think a lot of meleers went to fencer. With 90% comp being the standard for most pvpers, a stun weapon is pretty much essential. :/

i'm more of a pve player myself, but i do enjoy a bit of pvp, even though i do not have, or have ever owned armor. but i would like to see our pvp come up to par with say a rifleman for example, as rifleman and swordsman are the slow, but heavy hitting professions of their perspective skill sets. one thing i do not want to see swordsman loose is our damage. another thing i would like to see is instead of having medium armor piercing, would be heavy armor piercing for anything in two handed IV (leaving the two hand axe, and two hand curved sword, along with the vibro axe as they are right now for ap) and the rest being heavy armor piercing (namely the cleaver, the scythe and the powerhammer, and the master level weapon we want). as it is right now, even without my wearing armor if i go at it carefully and use buildings and walls, ect to my advantage i can do kind of so so in pvp, where i want to be able to actually take my weapon and shatter through lignt, or medium armor, and be able to do the damage that we are entitled to, and not worry about 80 or 90% armor being a factor. (just as a side note for rp reasons, and the fact that defenses help, i have taken on a defenseive teplate consisting of master swordsman, master brawler, 4/3/0/4 tka, 2/4/4/0 fencer, and 0/0/4/0 pikeman, with or without the combat balance, or anyimpending the change of defenses i'm most likely going to keep that or something simmilar to it as i like being a full melee character).

My main PvP concerns aren't swordsman specific. We do plenty of damage in PvP frankly, the only problem I have is delivering that damage. Kiters are a royal pain. Meleers really really need a /stick command. Without it I find I'm kited all the time, and even when I show 0m to target I get out of range messages. Aside from kiting, as a swordsman/doc I can do just fine in PvP. I hit for a good 200-300dmg in most cases (speed capped, 461-742 'Mitigate This' hammer) and that's just fine, if we could get something to prevent kiting, either /stick or a lockdown (Maybe stun state should slow someone to where they can only walk? We'd of course need a reliable stun move then...) I would be one happy swordsman.

Swordsman has become more popular lately, and it seems like its because of people doing more hign-end PvE lately. However, rifleman is without a doubt the best PvE preoffesion in the game, especially if combined with CH to have a tank.
But in PvP, a speed capped swordsman does VERY much damage, and I have dabbled fencer for defenses and dizzy/kd ability, and once people are down, its just a matter of time (unless they have PSG + 85%+ armour which I do have myself actually) before they die.
I think speed will be changed for swordsman, perhaps speed tapes will do a differance, but there will still be some sort of cap, to let the proffesions doing less damage not get outdamaged too easily when armour gets nerfed. And I hope mind specific hits wont be ruined to much.
Dizzy+KD will be even more king when armour and buffs are "nerfed" (perhaps fixed is a better word) and we will need to keep our damage to survive in PvP earlier.
It is true that swordsman isnt that easily made succesfull for PvP, but a designated PvPer, has so far been able to get a very good template withs swordsman in it.

Yeah . . . I've been mentioning that one ever since I became Brawler correspondent. I think it would have been a lot better fix than the, supposedly, temp fix of increased ranges.
Anyway, it's good to hear about PvP experiences. Gives a good perspective on where things are at. I'd definitely say that we've lost PvP'ers to other profs -- but perhaps not as much as I'd thought. Also it's important to always be reminded of different PvP contexts. We don't get nearly so much discussion now. I'm used to assuming that my target has 80+ armor myself -- and damage can be a bit depressing against that, even speed capped.
And it looks like I've picked up a 1-star bandit. Woot.
At this point I find it flattering if nothing else. *grin* Silly stars.

I agree completely. Swordsman is a VERY PvE-oriented profession right now. Most people are under the impression that it doesn't perform well in PvP and so those who are swordsmen generally avoid it.
Of course, it's not true, but considering the prices you have to pay in order to REALLY be good in PvP (you have to buy lots of stuff regardless of profession but 2h speed has passed rifle speed in cost on Intrepid, meaning to speedcap you gotta pay upwards of 1 million per point.)

And yes, meleers do need some way (other than KD/posture) to stop kiters. Getting out of range messages despite being within 10m (even for lunges) has really gotten to me lately.

Why get kited? If I'm fighting a kiting riflemanI turn around and run out of range lol...nothin gets a rifleman more upset than turning tail andregening as if nothing happened. Also I'm a pikeman first in pvp, and due to the use of invinci-armor(80%+), I feel I've been forced to use dots to compete..so a mind poison and a fire, followed by headhit3 is my routine...or action dots if theyre not medic followed by hit3. Back to point though...gettin kited turn around, chances are they wont start back toward you for a second or two, enough time to keep you out of range and regen. Another good strategy for a kiting rifleman is pull em in a building rifles are good for nothin at 4-10m. Don't let em make you play their game, make em play yours.

I dont know about shifts in demographics, Ive only been palying since march. I just switched from Fencer to Swordsman.Other than a few duels with guidies (never lost as a fencer)I'm not a huge PVP fan but i think it has apeal with the right people. I loved Fencer even as a PVE type i could handle myself pretty well in most situation and i had the weaponry to do enough damage against Higher level mobs, my best and most memeroble fiht was a deatwatch assasin i ran into on endor It lasted forever I just barely escaped with my life. Ok that was a tangent. Anyway all the people in the fencer forums kept asking me why I wasnt a Swordsman if I liked mele and PVE. So one day i decided what the heck ill give it a try a weel later i was a master swordsman and I must say I like it allot. At first i felt slow and clumsy (especially compared to master fencer). Swing hamer grab a bite to eat check forums come back, Miss, swing hammer again....I like master Swords allot I sold a 578 max damage baton to fund some speed tapes (oddly enough i kept my best pvp 500 damage gaffi) I have allot of fun strolling through the geo caves with out a care in the world, Kill thiefs dont concern me as much as i can usually out damage them. As far as PVP goes i havent tried it yet been testing my PVE limits and doing quite a bit of dying on the Corvette. I dont think i will do much PVP either since there seems to be way to much ego involved.I will admit to missing fencer it just is what i wanted to do but for now Swordsman is allot of fun.
Just my pennies
