Thread: Powerhammers are pretty useless
1) The sword and hammer are both AR2
2) The hammer has 6-7 less mind usage per second than the sword. That's negligiblereally.
Consensus:
Do not use the hammer before master. Only use it in Master level PvP to get mind bleeds.
End of story.
Has noone else gottena power hammer after the patch? The power hammer I have is 113-444, 4.3, and only -9 Range modifiers to all ranges. I don't know why people are still using -35 to -40 hammers still. Does the better range mods on mine change the findings of this post? Thanks.

How the hell do you figure it has 6-7 less mind per second? The new hammer has a mind cost of something like 24, a curved sword has a mind cost in the high 30s-low 40s and it swings faster but does much lower damage per swing. That's more than a little difference.
There is no consensus here. You claim they are useless and half the people in this thread say they are not. As far as I'm concerned you are flat out wrong. The Curved and the Cleaver eat your HAM up likecrazy.

This sad thread is why I'm deleting my novice master swordsman TransDoshan. Here is the problem:
Speed tops = 450
Stamina tops= 400.
I can't use the 2 handed curved sword. And I can't use any specials with anything (for long), because they burn action.
I'm pretty much screwed. I might go with 2 hand on my next character though. I'm thinking about trying out a Zabrak or a human. It seems like the Dev's show a huge preference to those two races.
This might sound harsh, but you're pretty stupid if you delete that Trandoshan. Max out your health regen and health stats and at master you have the best race for using the Power Hammer. The Curved Sword is nothing at master. I think all these people swearing the curved sword is something great are probably novice swordsman.
By the way, guys, DPS doesn't matter in PvP (and the PH is higher anyway, once you take into account speed). All you need is a single hit. With a Power Hammer and not even quite master (still working on the last combat exp box) I can one shot melees. I've hit a rifleman for over 2500 damage. If it takes 2 seconds to swing again, it simply is not even an issue. Even if you have to lunge before hitting the headhit, a difference of 1 second is not going to matter (going to take you that time to run in from lunge range anyway).
Nagorak, read my first post and look at the numbers.
The sword is 14 mind per second, the hammer is 5. Like I said, 7 per second difference. Neither has mind cost as the limiting factor, but action/health.
And everyone who said they like the powerhammer on this thread is a master. For the majority of your career before master, it's of no use.
Mykil,
where did you get the -9 hammers? I believe I made mine only 4-5 days ago with brand new materials and it was -31 to all ranges with advanced reinforcement core.
My power hammer is 460 damage at 5.6 without slicing.Getting a 35% slice towould bring it down to 3.64, which in itself is a pretty decent weapon. Now, I always have crates of 36% health / 16% speed, they are 1500 per a crate of 10.. pocket change.. with that I'm at 460 damage @ 3.1 seconds this is -31, -31, -31 and 71 H and action / mind isn't relevant because it's so low I regen it faster.
The biggest reason why I use power hammers is because I'm first off a trando.. my stats are geared to heath. So it makes sense that the weapon I choose takes from the health pool. I can literally spam 15 - 20 special attacks in a row without running out of action bars whereas I run out pretty fast with a 2 hander. I have 2 really nice two handed curved.. one being 247 damage @ 1.7 delay and one being 322 damage @ 2.5 and I only use them when the mob is blast resistant.
There are a lot more things to consider then DPS.
You need to factor in your overall damage potential with HAM, damage spread, and accuracy along with DPS. For me, I do far more damage and can continue doing that damage for a lot longer with a powerhammer then with a two handed curved.. that's me and might not suit everyone.
As many people have mentioned before, the best reason to use a PH is because you can heal health, but you can't heal mind.
If you have some medic skill, you'd be crazy not to use a PH -- you can spam specials all day long and just use your mind for only healing.
Any of you who put up with the nonsense of fighting some of the high end mobs in EQ know that there were weapons that had to be crafted using special, EXTREMELY RARE pieces. These weapons were some of the crappiest weapons in the game, but were the only things able to hit some of these mobs. I think the Power Hammer looks to be something along this line. When compared head to head with other weapons it almost seems crazy to use it... but against a mob that is highly resistant to kinetic, and vulnerable to blast, you'd be insane not to use it.

Same here for the same reasons. For someone to simply pronounce his opinion is the 'consensus' and declare 'end of story' is an idiotically myopic view of all of the factors in weapon use, and shows a lack of true understanding of such.
My 2H sword eats through my Action bar in mere seconds, but with my 800 strength / 800 constitution Trandoshan (with his special 'regeneration' ability to boot) I can spam PowerHammer specials like crazy, and I'm only at the first tier of swordsman.
And I don't know what the rest of you are hunting, but I come across far more kinetic resistant mobs than blast resistant, which makes the Hammer even more effective.
If you noticed, most rifleman and other gun toting boys have really low mind bars and I fricken drool over possibly getting one of those unlucky saps in PvP, one hit and its deathblow time...........
My PHhas become my weapon of choice and I'm two blocks away from becoming Master Heavy Swordsman. DPS means nothing to me at this point, unless I'm up against a blast resistant mob.........
I dueled a master BH two days ago and I laughed when I saw his mind HAM was about a 3 centimeters long...........we were in a guild building, so lets jsut say that even with a 75% damage reduction, I one hit a Master BH wearing Composite armor.........
The PH, is my weapon of choice aswell, again, depends if i come up againt high blast resistant mobs, but on Dath, doing baz nich killing, i kill them faster with the PH.
I ran several tests using 2 hand cleaver, 2 hand curved sword and the PH, and the PH averaged out better than the other 2.
