cleaver? bah

my powerhammer never does under 1000 hit damage to your average creature every 1 second if im beserk2. no specials required to take things down fast. if i use specials? lol. -5000 blows. i wish the cleaver didnt suck, but its crap compared to a powerhammer. especially at master level once you get the accuracy improvements.

I use the cleaver all the time. It's faster than a PH and more reliable thana curved. The range mod on mine isn't bad (at least its positive ) but I notice I kill things more often with a cleaver than a curved. Plus at master, its not going to matter much that your curved has 1s attack and your cleaver or PH does 3.4 and 5.4 because with all the mod's you get it's going to drop it real low. A melee weapons speed can't drop below 1, not that I heard or seen of anyways. So you may have your curved sword sliced down to 1s, but you'd be much better off with that damage sliced cleaver at 3.4 because your mods are going to drop you down to or close to 1. With a PH, you may not get 1s attacks, but they'll be pretty **edit**, good, and PH's just rock damage wise. Cleavers have a better chance to wound though, and they look soooooo much cooler, especially with the new red animations. *grumble* wish I could turn em off though. Anywho, that's my take. All weapons have their pros and cons, and if I want to kill something I'm going to kill it in style... unless they aren't dazzled by my style... then they get PH'd... and then if that doesn't work... I run like the pansy artisan I originally was

The cleaver is an excellent weapon, but not for the reasons mentioned above. Yes, reliable damage is good, but it is true it lacks the damage per second of the curved sword, and the pure damage of the powerhammer.

However : cleavers have well balanced HAM costs, especially with a lowish action cost (most of our specials have high action cost multipliers). It is way easier to spam specials with a 2 handed cleaver than with a 2 handed CS if you are not buffed.

Im interested in this topic...Im trying to break into the melee market as a weaponsmith and I was wondering which to make...many pointed me towards the Power hammer, and comparing the cleaver and curved sword, the curved just looked better...here are the stats Iwas able to make are these in the ball park?

Power Hammer 945/945 5.5spd 133-457 31.1%wnd -31/-31/-31 115/36/24

2h Curved Sword 965/965 2.6spd 58-243 38.7%wnd +7/+7/+7 29/62/35

2h Cleaver 922/922 3.4spd 98-219 43.9%wnd -9/-9/-9 48/46/28

Now I can see the damage argument... and the Action cost argument...but it just seems that overall the Curved is better... It takes many more resources to make the cleaver, so I wasnt going to bother making them...any reason I should?

I use three weapons because they all are good for various reasons.

My main is the 2h curved sword. With an action/max damage powerup (I always use them and will never use my curved without it) the 2h curved is the absolute best for HAM cost and damage output over time. The sword I use mainly is significantly faster than any cleaver without using a speed powerup on the cleaver and not on the curved. While some complain about damage output variance, I figure they haven't calculated DOT from their combat log while using powerups/food/drink/spice andusing specials non-stop.I like to land myspecials fast so I have time to CoB and heal without unnecessarily long delays. I don't like to miss landing my specials and really enjoy the curved bonuses in this area. Fightsix orseven fierce pikets at once and you will see the advantage to the reduced downtime.

My initial attack weapon for tougher mobs is stacked bleeds from a powerhammer using health/max damage powerup. It hits really nice and when you miss you can afford to swing it again. After stacking bleeds, I switch to curved to do mind hits on a single target until it's dead and I start on the next bleeding victim. Without powerups the powerhammer is really crappy by iteself for battles of a decent length unless you look at a minority of situations that are more difficult to coordinate. TKA has knockdown/dizzy, we get stacked mind bleeds.

To finish lairs and bases I always use the cleaver with 2h hit or berzerk, no powerups. Powerups get wasted and since there are only 10 per crate (what fathead came up with this number is beyond me) if you have to hit something so many times. This prevents my curved sword from wasting it's powerup and condition, same for my excellent powerhammer that I can't afford to have the powerup run out frequently or repair too many times. Cleaver is also good when powerups on your curved have expired and you haven't pulled another powerup from your crate. You can't pull stims or powerups from crates while fighting so it's an excellent backup and is essential to carry at all times.

Those who complain about variance on individual hits haven't calculated the actual DPS from their combat window while using the curved sword with action/max damage powerups. Curved sword hits faster, with lower ham costs when powered up, anddoesn't miss nearly as often makinggood usein area attacks. Powered up cleaver eats my ham in comparison to action powerup curved. If you don't use powerups, use a cleaver (or go tka).

Hi, I'm kinda confused.

I'm not actually a newby, but don't have a clue about crafting. What is Krayt-Enhancement?

And by the way, can somebody tell me how to get "superior" weapons, I mean Material and so on.

Thanks a lot guys

a "krayt enhanced" weapon is a weapon that was made with krayt scales, and greatly improves the weapon quality. they can be used in pistols and carbines i know, but for whatelse im not sure. the person woh just said they had a krayt enhanced cleaver was lying, you cannot use krayt scales in swords. i do think you can use rancor teeth, but its not working properly right now and make the weapon even worse.

I'm been a Master Heavy Swordsman for 2 months now and the Power Hammer is the way to go, it has the best min/max and u can take anything down if u know what your doing. The only time i used my cleaver was when i was still in the brawler tree working up to the HS tree. So if this is where u r then i understand why u like the cleaver so much if not buddy word of advice stick to the hammer or the 2h curve sword
